Flowers is the fourth release off of Leena Regan’s The Melancholy Mind Project and highlights the apathy felt towards ever finding love.

“I was in this period of time in my life when I assumed that nobody would ever truly love me, to the point where I thought love didn’t even exist. I began to seek out casual, distant flings to make sure I didn’t get my hopes up just to be let down, and I found a lot of comfort within those confines. I told myself that I had big ambitions and no room for distractions, so I wasn’t about to invest in anyone who wasn’t willing to break down my barricades and fight to love me whole-heartedly. If I didn’t feel that fire from someone, I LEENA REGAN had no interest and would ghost if I felt that there was any pressure for me to waste my GENRE: precious time.” Alt Pop

Flowers was free-styled by Leena at the keyboard as a confessional to LABEL: her style of “dating.” Independent “The song Flowers poured out of me as a response to a text message I received from an extremely casual fling, passively expressing that he was maybe starting to catch feelings SOCIAL: after nearly a year of hanging out once every couple of months. One precise and dramatic @LeenaRegan eye roll later, I slung myself over to my keyboard, started playing this melancholy little chord progression, and just sang whatever words and melody flowed out, which is exactly WEBSITE: what you hear on the final track. I then put it in my back pocket, and the next time I passed through Chicago, I brought it to my friend and long-time collaborator Matt Dougherty to www.leenaregan.com record and start producing out. The dude might just have some telepathic tendencies, ‘coz he breathed the perfect kind of life into the song and really helped to bring it to the place I CITY: pictured it in my mind when it was just me and the keyboard.”

Leena’s influence from late-90’s female singer songwriters such as Paula RELATED ARTISTS: Cole, Fiona Apple, and Shawn Colvin is undeniable on this track. Sasha Sloan, Tove Lo, Producer Matt Dougherty balanced the worlds of 90’s singer/songwriter grunge and modern indie pop beautifully, serving us a charged and raw foundation to Leena’s laid back melodies and conversational lyrics.

THE MELANCHOLY MIND PROJECT In an age where highlight reels appear at flick of our fingertips, it’s easy to feel like everyone around us is living a perfect life. We see everyone “doing so well” that we have become unaccustomed to how to healthily navigate hardships, set-backs, and sadness. When things get real, we recede into ourselves under the impression that no one could possibly relate to, help, or understand us; snowballing feelings of shame and loneliness towards normal human experiences and emotions. The Melancholy Mind project is a 5-song journey of cracking that glass wall in our hands that we’ve begun to hide behind. It isn’t a highlight reel. In contrast, songwriter and artist Leena Regan highlights real emotions and seasons of life that don’t make the cut to the small screen in hopes to bring awareness to the reality that we are not alone in these “un-shareable moments” of life.
