At only 65km this is a relatively short ride but don’t forget the 1,000 metres+ of climbing during the day which makes sure it’s a great work out for all levels of cyclist. The epic Fleet Moss is a real highlight of the day and one to get your thighs burning no matter how experienced you are! And don’t worry if you’re not a King or Queen of the Mountains, our cycling guides are on hand to support you all the way and all of our rides are led in a supportive manner – after all, cycling is meant to be fun (unless you’re a professional!)

Please note that whilst our rides are designed for 18 year olds and above, younger riders are welcome when accompanied by at least one adult. Our minimum age for this ride as a ‘join in’ group is 15, if you have younger family members who you’d like to join the ride please get in touch to discuss a private ride with one of our superb guides.

Detailed itinerary

We meet (and end the day) at Kettlewell Car Park which has plenty of pay and display spaces available and 09:30 where your guide for the day will run through a pre-ride briefing, make sure everyone has everything they need and then get the wheels turning.

The ride starts with us heading alongside the from Kettlewell – one of our favourite villages in the Dales and the village cafe is one of the most well known in cycling circles!

Heading North we follow the river until we arrive at and the start of the epic Fleet Moss climb which takes us up to 580m and the view point at Long Slack Gate. Draw breath, gird your loins and get ready for a proper stretch of climbing,

We’ll take some time to rest at the top of the climb and then enjoy the benefit that every climb has, the reward of a long descent! And ours finds us arriving in Hawes in Wensleydale, home of the famous cheese favoured by Wallace and Grommit. Again, cycling friendly pubs and cafes abound in this area and it would be rude not to stop to sample some coffee and a cake….

Finally, we keep to the quiet roads on the North bank of the River Ure and head East along the Dale before closing our loop by heading South through Buckden back to Kettlewell.

An absolutely beautiful ride with stunning views everywhere we look

Inclusions:

• Expert Great Yorkshire Adventures cycling guide with you every step of the way • A few Yorkshire surprises!

What to bring / wear?

• NOTE: It’s compulsory on all our rides for all cyclists to wear a helmet – many thanks for helping us to keep this safety rule in place • Please make sure you bring a bike (!) and prior to the day please check everything is in good working order (we know you know this but…..) • Whilst our cycling guide team will have some spare inner tubes etc please do bring at least one of your own – we always hope there won’t be any punctures but Yorkshire wasn’t built on hope alone. • Even though Yorkshire isn’t quite cycling in the tropics, hydration is important and we always recommend you start the ride with two full bidons – and there are plenty of places we can re-fill on our routes • Please make sure you wear weather appropriate clothing. Rain isn’t uncommon in Yorkshire (!) and if the wind picks up it can get chilly even in the height of summer. We well remember a ride in the Dales in May where we started out in glorious sunshine and ended the ride in sleet – not a huge amount of fun without the right clothing! • The vast majority of our cyclists are on road bikes – mountain bikers are however of course welcome. We just love cycling, there’s no roadie vs mountain vs whatever rubbish with Great Yorkshire Adventures! • Please do also come armed with a healthy sense of adventure and be ready to enjoy some of our wonderful countryside

Other information:

• Cycling is a passion for Great Yorkshire Adventures and we love to promote cycling to all and have huge respect for all those who enjoy two wheeled adventures, no matter how far or

fast they ride, no matter how expensive their bike is or whether they are King or Queen of the Mountains. Our rides are inclusive and aimed squarely at those who enjoy riding WITH others rather than racing AGAINST others. If you’re looking to set new Strava records then our ‘join in’ rides probably aren’t for you – but please do book a private ride and our team will enjoy pacing you up those hills. • All our rides are led by an expert cycling guide Their job is to make sure everyone on the ride has a superb time. Occasionally this may mean cycling more slowly than you’d like to support someone who’s pushing their limits. We ask for all riders understanding in these guys – to us, one of the great joys of cycling is to support others and encourage and help them complete challenges and rides in a friendly and enjoyable environment. As a cyclist we’re sure you know what we mean…… • Being Yorkshire natives we’re used to riding in all manner of weather and it’s part of life in God’s Own County that a bit of rain is never too far away – that’s why it’s so beautiful! And a big part of the attraction of Great Yorkshire Adventures is cycling through different terrains and landscapes and experience the beauty of the countryside in all weathers. Whilst every effort is made to minimise potential hazards by participating in a Great Yorkshire Adventure you should be aware that there is always a small degree of unavoidable risk and that you are aware and accept this when joining one of our Adventures. • Our rides do operate in all conditions unless, in the trained opinion of the lead guide, conditions or the forecast are deemed unsafe. The lead guides decision in these cases are final and should they need to cancel the ride before you start you have the choice of a full refund or choosing another date to enjoy your Adventure (subject to availability). Unfortunately Great Yorkshire Adventures aren’t able to refund you for any travel costs incurred where a ride has to be cancelled due to safety factors but we will always endeavour to inform you of cancellations as early as possible. • You will need to make your own way to and from the meeting point for this ride. Public parking is available in Kettlewell at the meeting point. Great Yorkshire Adventures can advise on how to get to Kettlewell - please ask at the time of booking • We do need to set off on time to compete this ride so please don’t be late! The briefing will start at 09:30 and all cyclists need to be present when the briefing starts
