Chairman’s Report

Season 2013 has seen us build on the work done over the past few years with respect to Club facilities and management. At the end of 2012 BMCC fulfilled their commitment to invest heavily in Summerhayes Park and we have no doubt reaped the benefit of this during the season. In the 18 years I have been involved with the Club this is the first year I can recall finishing a season with a full cover of grass on Field 1. Many of you will have noticed that at the end of this season Council were again at work on the fields undertaking leveling, turfing, top-dressing and further drainage. With the sound financial management we have adopted over the past several years, SUFC have been able to contribute to this field maintenance to further improve the surface quality. This will see even better playing surfaces throughout 2014 and beyond. Thanks to Council for their support and efforts and also to those club members who have helped along the way. 2013 has also seen us finally receive approval to renew the occupancy license on the Clubhouse. Many will be unaware that despite having built the Clubhouse, the Club has been struggling to renew the license for a variety of reasons. Again, thanks to the strong support of our local Councilors and Council staff the Club has signed a license agreement giving us tenure of the facility until 2027. While achieving these objectives is great, we still have a lot we want to achieve. Plans are already being made by the Management Committee and priorities established for the next round of improvements. Having established a collaborative working relationship with BMCC we will work closely with them to ensure the continued development and maintenance of the fields and facilities for the benefit of not just club members, but the community in general. At this year’s AGM I will be stepping down as Chairman after 3 years in the position. I feel having achieved the objectives I set for myself when taking on the role, it is now time to hand over to someone who can continue the development and take the club to its next level. Over these 3 years, like the 18 I have been involved with the Club, I have met and worked with some wonderful and dedicated people. It would be unfair to single out anyone, but I would be remiss if I did not make mention of the great Management & Football Committee members, Coaches and Managers who ensure the club remains viable and that you and/or your children get to experience a great sport, in a great atmosphere with ever improving facilities. Finally, I would like to thank all of the players and parents who together with those mentioned above make this club what it is - great. Wayne Moloney Chairman Springwood United Football Club

To get yourself and/or your children on the fields each week we need people to help out on the Committee. These is a great way for you to become involved, meets lots of the members and have a say in the way YOUR club is run. If you think a committee position may take up too much time but would still like to be involved, there are plenty of areas you could help without committing to a dedicated role. If you can help, please email [email protected]

Director of Finance’s Report

Well another season has come and gone.

The club continues to be in a strong financial position which has allowed us to make a substantial contribution towards the Blue Mountain City Council upgrade of Field 1, $10,000 in total.

Additionally we have made the following provisions:-

$7,500 to complete the grandstand i.e. close in sides and fronts to eliminate rubbish underneath $20,000 towards replacing shirts in 2-3 years’ time, funds are allocated each year from your registrations to avoid additional fundraising and sourcing of sponsorship.

We are also putting on a bigger presentation day than in previous years plus keeping some funds in reserve to make further improvements around Summerhayes Park.

Finally after 5 years as Treasurer, I have decided to step down from the role. I would like to thank all the Committee Members, Coaches & Managers, mums, dads and players who have provided support to me and the Club on the whole and wish you all well in the future. Anja Minney Treasurer Springwood United Football Club

Field Management & Maintenance Committee Report

The start of the year saw a delay with getting onto field 1 due to the final stages carried out by council in upgrading the field with a new type of turf and drainage but what an amazing difference the money spent by our club and council in the field improvement. It is the first time that all fields were still playable right up till the end of the season. The great result would not have been possible without all the teams and players support in the field management that is carried out during the season that does unfortunately cause inconvenience. Thanks to everyone for your patience and assistance throughout the season. There is ongoing work in the off season on field 1 with more drainage work being conducted and field 2 receiving some much needed drainage work around the car park fence. Our relationship with council is strong and will see much needed no parking signage and bollards to prevent cars parking in awkward areas. Thanks to the crew that help set up the goal posts, the fields and removal of goal posts at the end of the season and park final clean up. Special thanks to Ian Strudwick for his tireless efforts in always having the fields line marked for the club throughout the season.

President of Football Report

The winter morning air is crisp. The sun glistens off the dew on the grass. There is a scent of eggs, bacon and sausages sizzling on the barbecue calling those who need to satisfy their craving. The aroma of coffee beckons an early morning caffeine fix. Parents arrive with their young chargers, rugged up in thick jackets and scarves to block out the early morning chill. Players are attired in their shorts and jumpers, and socks which are pulled up leaving only their knees exposed to the wintery morning. The nets are attached resembling a web awaiting its prey. Our young chargers are drawn to the web; they cannot resist. The web is awaiting its prey. Before too long there is the familiar bleat of a whistle which resonates across the pitch. Let the fun begin.

At the completion of the 2012 football season, I never thought for one moment I would be the author of the President of Football Grassroots Report for 2013. However, after last year's Annual General Meeting which saw nobody stand or elected to the position, I thought it was a good idea to put my hand up to do more for the club other than being a player and coach. Might I say what a great experience it has been!

Season 2013 saw the club concentrating only on grassroots football; the foundation upon which players develop their skills and love for the game. With no representative arm of football attached to the club, we are committed to the grassroots level. Hyundai Goals for Grassroots - major sponsors for the A-League - recognised the club's commitment in January of this year by presenting a cheque at a Wanderers home game and showcasing some of our grassroots players on their website. The club ran a Grassroots Coaching course in March which was attended by more than 20 coaches, to provide the building blocks to develop the skills of our young players. The club re-established a team in the ; the highest level available for grassroots football. Similarly, we maintained our strength in women's football by fielding a team in the highest level available, Division 1.

One of the busiest periods is before the football season even commences - registration. This year was the second occasion that players had to register on-line, with most grasping the concept without too many headaches. Thank you to our Registrar Tanya Filla, assisted by Nigel Stubbs, for facilitating the registration process. In addition, thank you to the committee for attending the two registration days at the club to assist.

Registration saw 767 players register at the club this season. Approximately half of that number make up our Small Sided and Modified football teams; 45 teams in total from U5 to U11s. This year the club were fortunate to have on-board Rene’ Dempsey who was the Small Sided Football Co-Ordinator. Rene’ filled this vacant position two weeks before the season commenced and hit the ground running doing a fantastic job to ensure teams kicked the season off on time. Thanks also to Chris Gilchrist and Andy Graham for assisting Rene’ in this process.

This season the club had 26 competition teams, most of which had to be graded. Graeme Ellis, the club's Grading Co-ordinator, undertook this thankless and necessary task. Graeme did an excellent job adopting a fair and objective approach to ensure players were adequately graded. This job cannot be done solo and Graeme received great support from Andy Graham and Scott Jacka. Thank you also to Fiona Skrzypnik, the club's Senior Women's Representative and Steven Nicholson, the Junior Girl's Representative for assisting the grading of the girl's teams, the organisation of the senior women's teams and for the great work promoting female football at the club this season.

At the beginning of the year, the club completed a full audit of all the equipment on hand - jerseys, balls, cones, kit bags etc. This massive job was undertaken by Scott Jacka, the club's Equipment Officer, with Nigel Stubbs providing assistance to collate the equipment before it was distributed to any of the teams.

One of the noticeable developments during the off-season was the works conducted in relation to field 1 and field 2. Most of the competition teams certainly benefited from this, with a majority of teams playing on the newly turfed surface on field 1 and enjoying actually playing on grass instead of dirt at the back end of the season. This work could not been achieved without the hard work of Wayne Moloney, who embarked upon a two year project liaising with Blue Mountains Council. As members we can be proud of what has been achieved and can look forward to many years playing on fields that will by the envy of other clubs.

In addition to the new playing surface, there is work which goes on behind scenes to ensure the fields are prepared to play on each weekend. Many members will not see Ian Strudwick marking the lines at the crack of dawn on a Saturday morning or by the light of the moon at night. However, without Ian's commitment members would not be able to enjoy the marked fields to play football. Also, thanks to Craig Adams and Roy Clifford who assisted in the management of the fields to ensure that players were actually playing on grass each week.

Although the club did not have any competition teams in first place at the end of the regular season, there were numerous teams finishing at runners-up. Congratulations to the U12G/1, U12/1, U13/3 White, U18/2, AA9 and O35/5 (undefeated). Four of these teams - U12/1, U13/3 White, AA9 and O35/5 made it to their respective grand finals. They were joined by the O35/2 who improved upon their third place to also make the grand final. Congratulations to the AA9s becoming the club's only grand final winners with the remainder playing valiantly to be runners-up.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to be a part of the Management and Football Committee this season. I have appreciated the support that you have provided me and the work that you do to keep the wheels in motion for the benefit of our members. In addition, thank you to our Coaches and Managers for their devotion who without them our teams would not even be able to play each weekend. Parents, thank you for supporting your children; braving the cold chilly mornings, assisting with BBQ and canteen, setting up and packing away goals and nets. Thank you to Megan Gilchrist, Wendy Millar, Tanya Filla, Fiona Skrzypnik and Sonya Leehy for organising a family fun-filled Presentation Day. It is the combination of our members working together that fosters the community environment at our club. Finally, however certainly not forgotten, thank you to my wife Sonya and our tribe of 6 children who supported me in this rewarding role.

The final curtain has been drawn, the goals and nets have been packed away. The sounds of children playing have now faded. However the memories will live on.

Hope to see you all again in 2014! Sean Leehy President of Football Springwood United Football Club

Small Sided Football Team Reports

U5 Alligators (non competition) The boys in the U5 Alligators had a wonderful first season of football. The quality, skill and aggression of many players in the other U5 teams kept pushing our team to improve. By the end of the season most of our players showed confidence on the ball, courage and appropriate aggression. All players improved from the start of the year. Christopher was a stand-out as our most improved player and by the end of the year had developed into one of the best players in the U5s. Sam was strong right from the start of the season, always aggressive on the ball with good skills, at times dominating the game. The other players also came along nicely. Joshua brought lots of energy to the team in his play and would never back down from a challenge. Macauley showed good field awareness and defensive instincts to stop many goals and regularly take the ball away from our goal in defence. Quinn showed he has a good boot on him with his big kick restarts. Toby showed glimpses of great speed and skill amidst his solid performances each week. And Theo was always a very tough player for the other team to get by. The parents were all very supportive of their boys and it made for a cohesive team and a fun time every Saturday morning. Thanks to all the parents who helped out with setup, timekeeping, BBQs and canteen. And a special thanks to Jon Wright who took up the challenge to coach the boys on Thursday nights and run around the field with the boys each Saturday. U5 Alligators 2013: Joshua Curtis, Macauley Down, Quinn Fryer, Christopher Oliver, Tobias Ritchie, Theodore Wood, Samuel Wright Coach: Jon Wright Manager: Ian Fryer

U5 Bears (non competition) Thank you boys (and parents) for the opportunity to coach your first year of football. The Bears had a great first year learning to be good sports in victory and defeat (some work still to do on this one!), learning new skills with the football and how to work together as a team. Everyone bought their own strengths to the team and developed as the season progressed. Seth gained confidence throughout the season, loved getting the trophy and becoming really involved moving the ball forward towards the end of the season. Seth has the longest run up to kick the ball in the competition – go Seth! Ashton has been the quite achiever in the team quickly becoming the back bone of our defence, ready to run back and tackle anyone in the competition. Ashton scored some great goals during the year and is a great team player who will do well in any sport he chooses to play – great work Ash! Liam quietly worked hard all season growing in confidence as a player and as part of the team - great stuff Liam! Will was a dynamo right from the first game, fast with the ball and without, able to score goals from anywhere on the field. Will has developed as a player during the season passing and calling for the ball by season’s end - well done Will! Lochlann became more involved in the game each week and his perseverance paid off with some great tackling and play by late season. Lochlann could match Seth for the longest run up in the game - well done Lochy! Max’s determination to score goals paid off during the season, he even learnt that he didn’t need to tackle his own team mates to do it! Max is starting to pass the ball and become a good little team player and I can’t wait to watch him grow in the coming seasons - go Max! Josh has developed more confidence and given his all in each game. Josh is a great little team member who really started to shine by the end of the season, getting involved in the play all over the field - great work Josh! Thank you again everyone and Kim thank you for all your help this season. U5 Bears 2013: Seth Abel, Ashton Anderson, Liam Dale, William Ford, Lochlann Johnson, Max Leach, Joshua Patfield Coach: Lachlan Leach Manager: Kim Patfield

U5 Cougars (non competition) The Under 5 Cougars had a remarkable first season of football in 2013. The levels of improvement and enjoyment shown from the boys was enough to warm the hearts and souls of those braving the sidelines on those cold wintery Saturday mornings at Summerhayes Park.

The Cougars started the season brilliantly and it was evident from an early stage that the boys had a keen eye for goal. What was most pleasing though was the level of improvement in their game each week, and by the last few weeks a few passes were sticking, and even a cross from a wide position to a team mate near the goal was starting to occur on a regular basis.

Each and every boy improved remarkably throughout the season, with Ryan’s running, Bailey’s tackling, Hamish’s long range goals, Alex’s crosses, Jack’s kick ins, Lachie’s passing, and Hayden’s shot stopping all regular highlights of the games throughout the year.

A big thank you must go out to Craig who worked tirelessly in coaching the boys both on a Saturday and Monday afternoon making the games and trainings great fun for the players. We very rarely seemed to not have a full team every Saturday which is a true indication of the boys enjoying their football.

Thanks to all the parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, and other friends and relatives who came to watch the Cougars in action every Saturday morning. This made for a really buzzing atmosphere for the boys to strut their stuff on the field.

I hope all the boys return to play again next year, as they really were a pleasure to watch on the field and manage off it!

Well done Cougars!

U5 Cougars 2013: Hayden Cservak, Ryan Horton, Lachlan Hurley, Alexander Kerkham, Bailey Rutten, Hamish Weir, Jackson Whitfield

Coach: Craig Weir Manager: Ross Kerkham

U5 Emus (non competition) Well done and congratulations to the U5 Emus on a great first season. Their confidence and teamwork developed along with their ability to pass and share the ball. The boys, Luka, Cameron and Tom always showed a strong defence and skillful passing whilst the girls of the Emu’s, Larissa, Lainey, Abi and Kalarni’s great goal scoring, weaving and social abilities always had the team playing their best. It was a pleasure to watch these young players not only grow in confidence and ability but also to see such wonderful friendships develop. At times a little distracted by their developing friendships, the girls, sometimes taking time out during the game to hold hands and skip down the field. I’d also like to take this opportunity to say a very special thank you to our coach, Peter, and our very supportive parents who make it all possible, thanks for always volunteering to help and thanks for braving the cold weather and giving up your Saturday morning sleep ins. I’ve heard the five S's of sport are: stamina, speed, strength, skill, and spirit. To these five S’s I’d like to add...socialising, sportsmanship, sisterhood, super heroes and spontaneity. Congratulations again on a wonderful season! U5 Emus 2013: Larissa Atkins, Lainey Beames, Luka Crncec, Cameron Dempsey, Abigail Larkin, Thomas Larkin, Kalarni Smoth Coach: Peter Dempsey Manager: Alexandra Anamourlis Beames

U5 Foxes (non competition) In 2013 what a fantastic way to start the season this year with new fields and excellent weather. The U5 Foxes have shown great deal of love for the game and the players have developed individually and as a team. Gabriel, the youngest of the team, has demonstrated during the season determination to grow his endurance and his football skills. He has shown the “can do attitude” and never left the field when he was tired and the team needed him. Matilda had a very good start and was excellent at training showing her very strong kicks. However, she decided not to pursue the football-star fame at this stage and left the team for a break. The boys missed you. Perhaps next season. Harry had the determination of a little striker showing some fantastic goals and footwork and he has demonstrated significant learning of teamwork skills. Ewan was a fantastic learner. A strong all-rounder, whose listening had him showing excellent control of the ball, passes, a few goals and shining in defence. Preston had a slow start but also his determination and listening did not take long to break out of his shell and show some fantastic fast running to score beautiful goals. Jayden worked hard to tune his control of the ball. He demonstrated good positioning to receive a passing ball from a team player, and his magnificent left foot to finish the score with a nice goal. Max was good runner all around. He developed good control and passing of the ball to be able to setup goals for the team as well put some in the back of the net. U5 Foxes 2013: Max Campaner, Gabriel Devine, Matilda Emmanuel, Harry Farrell, Ewan Leslie, Preston Mamo, Jayden Stanford Coach: Eduardo Campaner Manager: Elaine Campaner

U5 Tigers (non competition) The U 5 Tigers had an awesome season, ferocious by name and just as ferocious on the field! As a first-time Coach, I was very impressed with the dedication and sheer determination by all seven little Tigers. With most players being brand new to the game, each player developed fundamental skills and increased confidence throughout the season. Week by week I noticed the team coming together as one, and I was very impressed with the way all players supported one another. We began the season like lost little cubs with no direction, however a few weeks in, we soon gained momentum, along with a unique attacking technique, growling at the opposition! It was great to see each individual players come into their own. Caitlin is one of the most graceful and dedicated players to ever play the game. Maddy has unbelievable kicking skills and a determination to be involved. William is a superstar and came into the game with an awesome skill set and I am very impressed with his developing sportsmanship. Lachlan is a very determined, involved player, whose defence is next to none. Harrison showed impressive skill and focus in all areas on the field, a credit to him. It was great to see Preston’s confidence build throughout the season, great work. Almost out of nowhere, came little Jack, whose improvement was phenomenal over the season. It was wonderful to see all players showing touches of brilliance throughout the season. I thoroughly enjoyed working with all the players and am honoured to have been your coach. Well done Tigers! Rraaahhh! Coach Nathan. U5 Tigers 2013: Preston Chisholm, William Hansen, Jack Leahey, Maddison Machon, Caitlin Murphy, Harrison Stevens, Lachlan Todd Coach: Nathan Stevens Manager: Allison Todd

U6 Alligators (non competition) The “Gator Boys” as they became known had a wonderful season as they improved their passing and teamwork skills throughout the season. All of the boys regularly troubled the scorer.

The boys really came together throughout the season, working really hard on their passing ability. This effort was rewarded in the back end of the season that saw a number of goals scored from passing sequences amongst a number of the boys.

Oliver worked hard throughout the season working on his tackling skills, showing considerable improvement during the season. Macklin developed a lethal left foot kick to compliment his ball control skills. Oscar continued to chase hard up front with steely determination. James dazzled with his footwork and overall enthusiasm for both training and games. Samuel worked really hard on his teamwork in conjunction with individual displays of attacking flair. Lucas improved his ability to attack the ball, which saw him make some determined attacking runs.

A special mention to our ever present cheer squad and supporters for all your support throughout the season. U6 Alligators 2013: Samuel Graham, James Hinchcliff, Macklin Miall, Oscar Mills, Lucas Sawyer, Oliver Scurr Coach: Andrew Graham Manager: Lee Scurr

U6 Bears (non competition) All the boys played together for the first time this year and all bonded well straight away. The mix of talents and personalities was fantastic. Several of the boys were well advanced in terms of skills and this showed, particularly in early games, where they dominated and scored at will. However, within 4-6 weeks, I could see that the other boys in our side and other teams had improved markedly. This allowed us to focus on developing focused roles for the boys. For example, we introduced a ‘defender’ role, where one boy would drop back and make it his goal to stay between the ball and his goal. Each of the boys rotated through that role during each game, but by the end of the year, several of the boys that were perhaps less confident, started to blossom in that role. This role allowed them to get into the game, because the ball was coming to them, rather than them having to go and find it. One of the youngest boys ended up becoming a goal scorer in this role - his confidence increased that much that he was regularly getting the ball near his goals and dribbling the whole field to score or pass the ball. All in all, each boy improved and are looking forward to playing again next year. U6 Bears 2013: Beau Atkins, Kallen Boss, Andrew Brett, Jack Mohring, Riley Power, Lachlan Spencer, Xavier Williams Coach: Ricky Spencer & Corey Williams

U6 Cougars (non competition) What a great time the U5 Cougars had this year! A Cougar attacks with speed, power and stealth and this group of players lived up to that reputation. The players improved each week and gave all of the parents great joy in seeing them run around each week. Hope to see you all back and playing football again in the many years ahead. U6 Cougars 2013: Jordan Banks, Ysobel Chalice, Brendan Golby, Liam Hicks, Finn McCaffery, Lachlan Mills-Hodgson, Ava Walsh Coach: Glen McCaffery Manager: Amy Golby

U6 Dingoes (non competition) This has been a great first season for the Dingoes. Our Thursday afternoon training sessions led by ‘super coach’ Steve were a mixture of learning new football skills and catching up on all the school gossip and events of the week. Training was often finished with a kids versus parents match which usually resulted in a crushing defeat for the parents. The team had so much fun every Saturday on match days and the different skills and personalities of the team shone through as the season progressed; Lucas the lion, Liliah the dynamo, William the super defender, Seth the all-rounder, Will the quiet achiever and Declan the boy who could take on the world. Every member of the Dingoes, including the dedicated parents who cheered on from the sidelines every week, made the 2013 season one to remember. U6 Dingoes 2013: Liliah Bustamante, Declan Edmondson, Lucas Henderson, William Mudge, William O’Connell, Seth Weston-Cole Coach: Steven Bustamante Manager: Colin Edmondson

U6 Emus (non competition) The 2013 season had its ups and downs for our growing Emu’s team this year after starting as strong as they finished in 2012. All the boys fell back into their usual roles and things looked promising. A broken leg kept 2012’s golden boot William Weir off the field for most of the season, making a welcomed return with a few rounds to go. Peter Koulouris and our new girl Tiana Heke stepped up to the plate and got us back to winning games with great determination, scoring some fantastic goals. Without solid mid-fielders like Aiden Wade-Ferrell and Harry Ghata though, the balls just didn’t get turned around in counter-attack. And often stealing the show in defence was Flynn Steinhoff and especially Gareth Roberts who continually impressed the sideline with his defensive awareness. The boys had a great time this year, which is the most important thing and they were again a pleasure to coach and watch as they develop into great young sportsmen. Thanks also to the parents and relatives of the boys who continually supported us every weekend. U6 Emus 2013: Harry Ghata, Tiana Heke, Peter Koulouris, Gareth Roberts, Flynn Steinhoff, Aiden Wade-Ferrell, William Weir Coach: Dale Wade-Ferrell Manager: Kylie Wade-Ferrell

U6 Hawks (non competition) The beginning of the season started with some significant adjustment with some of our Hawks having their first encounter with football and overall both the girls and boys demonstrated some great talent and competitive sportsmanship throughout the season. Mia Watson led the Hawks throughout the season with consistent outstanding speedy performances in well rounded games and was closely followed by both Thomas Brosnan and Brodie Roots with some excellent footwork and ballwork in both attack and defence. Olivia Mountain was also handy in attack with some strong clearing kicks and defence throughout the season. William Jones consistently kept the opposition on it toes with some sneaky attack on the wing and after a few games under his belt Finn Hartley left the opposition in his dust with some fine attacking displays. Addison Down was also consistent in all facets of her game and quickly recovered from a lost tooth late in the season back to her consistent performances.

Overall the Hawks displayed some considerable competitive team spirit and built in confidence through the course of the season with some victories and more significantly had some fun which ensured the games were enjoyed by all the team and have the team looking forward to next season.

Many thanks to Kerri for organising us all and also to our devoted parents, grandparents and supporters throughout the season which ensured our joy on Saturday mornings. U6 Hawks 2013: Thomas Brosnan, Addison Down, Finn Hartley, William Jones, Olivia Mountain, Brodie Roots, Mia Watson Coach: Liam Brosnan Manager: Kerri Jones

U6 Iguanas (non competition) The off-season signing up of nimble footed mid-field supremo Harrison Flook lit the fuse on another high octane season from the Mighty Iguanas. Jack Fuge’s ability to find and exploit the channels with precision passing out of defence complemented target player Daan Borg’s dazzling dribbling and positional nous up front. Barnstorming Benji Synnott battered his way through many a packed defence with some well taken goals, while Tommy Grodzicki had no trouble finding the net regularly thanks to his speed, agility and well-developed coordination. Rhett Goman’s unstinting commitment and impressive right boot provided the team with strong backbone, enabling Caleb Goman to explode into action with bravura displays of what can only be described as goal scoring frenzy. As ever the Iguanas remain a highly combustible outfit and will all be looking forward to lighting up Summerhayes again in 2014. U6 Lions (non competition) The Lions have been the pride of their family and friends this season. Ayden, Alex and Phillip joined James, Kane, Miles and Max to take to the field each Saturday morning with enthusiasm, willingness and a sense of enjoyment. Throughout the season they developed their skills and showed remarkable improvement in passing, defence and goal scoring. When passing the ball around and playing as a team the boys were lucky enough to experience ‘success’. The joy and encouragement each player demonstrated towards members of their team as they scored goals and worked together made the early mornings and cold training sessions more than worthwhile. There was nothing better than seeing those smiles and high fives. As our boys learnt fair play, good sportsmanship and respect they built friendships and demonstrated values that will follow them through into their future sporting endeavours and throughout their lives. It has been a privilege to be a part of such an exciting and important time for the boys and we thank the Lions’ parents and cheer squads. We look forward to doing it all again next year. Congratulations team and Go Lions! U6 Lions 2013: Maximus Anderson, Ayden Balson, Alexander Billiards, James Croucher, Kane Griffiths, Miles Latham, Phillip Matic Coach: Steven Anderson Manager: Alena Anderson

U6 Panthers (non competition) The U6 Panthers had a terrific season. All players saw their skills and teamwork improve week by week. There were plenty of goals and lots of laughs. The team worked well particularly because of the enthusiasm and participation of parents for which we are thankful. Looking forward to U7’s already. U6 Wolves (non competition) The Wolves have had another great year. We had a few new recruits that brought enthusiasm and energy to the team and all players improved as the season progressed. Sportsmanship and team spirit is important in any sport and the boys played with both qualities. The concepts of passing, field position and team work are not always easy to get right at this age. We worked a lot on these concepts at training and we started seeing some great results in the back half of the season. Thank you to the parents for bringing their kids to training and games each week. We had a great time cheering on the Wolves and loved the ever friendly and supportive atmosphere felt at the club. Thank you also to Rene Dempsey, Glen McCaffery and the Springwood Football Club committee for providing such a great small sided football experience for the kids and their families. U6 Wolves 2013: Hamish Bernays, Lachlan Dempsey, Mathew Hall, Marley Henderson, Jett Lawson, Liam O’Loughlin, Jeremy Taylor Coach: Robert Taylor Manager: Jessica Taylor

U7 Bears (non competition) The U7 Bears saw some old team mates and new players combine this year. The boys had a fantastic time each week and there was great improvement as they began working as a team over the course of the year. Braeden was great in front of goals, Nicholas defended brilliantly and Liam quickly started picking up the skills and was a great contributor by the end of the year. Jack, Caleb and Rico all worked really hard and scored some memorable goals. Unfortunately Aiden was only able to be a part time player as he battled illness, but he remained an important part of the team and often came to watch and played whenever he was able to. U7 Bears 2013: Rico Damelian, Caleb Dougherty, Nicholas Hansen, Aiden Machon, Liam Murphy, Jack Nicholls, Braeden Smith Coach: Grant Nicholls Manager: Leigh Hansen

U7 Cougars (non competition) These 7 players put the energizer bunny to shame. They have proven to be great learners throughout the season, improving their knowledge of the game, they have come so far. They can tackle, dribble and score goals with the best of them. We all love to watch as four at a time run around the field chasing the ball ready to kick it (in any direction!) towards the goals. Well done to the players for their unfailing enthusiasm and continued improvement every week. U7 Cougars 2013: Caleb Bennett, Andrew Dillen, Lachlan Golby, Rory Jenner, Max Klein, Luca Matic, Riley Uden Coach: Craig Golby Manager: Amy Golby U7 Dingoes (non competition) It was a great season for the U7 Dingoes in 2013. We started the season with seven players, all with different abilities, experience and interests. With some great leadership and persistence, the team was able to come together to perform admirably throughout the season with all players displaying commitment, responsibility and enthusiasm. The main thing was to have fun, and much fun was had by the players and the parents watching on the sideline. Mitchell Bryan’s broken elbow sidelined him for a few weeks just as he was hitting his stride in the season. But he still came to support the team and then made a great comeback for the second half of the season, showing a great improvement. Ashton Dobson was the quiet achiever of the team, he scored many goals, had a good attitude during all games and displayed great sportsmanship. Linus Dunne enjoyed his first football season and improved greatly as the year unfolded. He tried his best at all times and enjoyed the camaraderie with the team. Zane Palmer was a hard worker on the field this season. He enjoyed driving the ball forward and scoring goals. Zane’s commitment to improving his skills and abilities was fantastic.

Nandu Raj was an extremely consistent and level-headed player this season. He always tried his best for the team and his skills and abilities in football improved greatly throughout the season. Pierce Schilder enjoyed being on the field this season. He loved being part of the team and his football skills improved greatly during the year. Will Tandy was an enthusiastic and committed player this season. He always praised and encouraged other players and was able to position himself on the field very well. U7 Dingoes 2013: Mitchell Bryan, Ashton Dobson, Linus Dunne, Zane Palmer, Nandu Raj, Pierce Schilder, William Tandy Coach: Ben Palmer Manager: Craig Dunne

U7 Emus (non competition) A fun year of football for the team and a great effort in team sport. This team showed what having fun is really all about. Well done for big improvements in skill levels throughout the season. Hope to see you all next year. U7 Emus 2013: Daniel Fuller, Daniel Horton, Jonathan Peters, Marek Sroczynski, Lachlan Waters, Thomas Wilks Coach: Belinda Waters Manager: Mandy Fuller

U7 Foxes (non competition) The U7 Foxes had a fantastic season. Some team mates played together in the previous football year and some knew each other from school. Others started football for the very first time, while another was returning from a short season last year due to injury.

We started off as a mixed bunch with a broad range of talents and abilities.

Despite this, in a very short time, the teammates become a cohesive team, who knew each other’s strengths and weakness and always played as a team and not for individual glory. The way they encouraged and congratulated each other throughout the season proved a successful ingredient as they improved dramatically as the weeks progressed. We were proud to belong to a team that showed great sportsmanship.

Carol was constantly reminding the lads to ‘hustle’ and ‘mark the player’, the words finally began to sink in and in the last games they showed that they were ready for moving to the next grades where strategy and position are integral in the game.

Joshua - demonstrated some remarkable long range kicks and goal scoring. He had the ability to turn the ball around and elude his opponents with his fancy footwork. Brooklyn - an all-round star player. Brooklyn had stamina, drive and was good at securing the goals. Tom - always helped line the play up. Always mindful of the ball’s position and focussed. A good team player. Jacob - it was hard to believe this was his first year playing grade football. He shows natural ability. Another all-round great player. Wade - had some shining moments during the season. As his confidence increased, so did his goal scoring and accuracy in passing the ball to his teammates. Luke - found his confidence and sure footing after returning from a major injury last year. Luke was great at marking the player and therefore able to steal some great goals during the season. For Luke it was always about the team.

Thank you parents for your support and enthusiastic cheering from the sidelines. U7 Foxes 2013: Thomas Cole, Wade Jordan, Joshua Kelly, Jacob Mendham, Brooklyn Ritchie, Luke Westaway Coach: Carol Camden Manager: Jenni Cole

U7 Iguanas (non competition) What another great year…!!! We welcomed 2 new players to the team this year, but it was fantastic that we retained most of the team from last season. The new recruits settled in well and it wasn’t long before everyone realized that 1 year on made a big difference in the skills and abilities of our players. It was really great to see the kids getting into another season and increasingly grow in confidence. The Coach has implemented a lot more practical skills and discipline into our training sessions which has seen the kids really step up to the next level and develop on and off the field. A BIG THANK YOU COACH!! Once again it has been great watching the team learn and grow. The kids have continued to really bond well together and this shows with the great teamwork and friendships they have developed. Also big thanks to all the Mum and Dads, Grand Parents, family and friends who joined us for the journey this year to cheer on the team. A big effort all round. Thanks Team…Cheers…!!!

U7 Numbats (non competition) Rowan, Oli, Jasper, Tate, Jye, Louis and Hayden made up the U7 Numbats this year. Each week the boys turned up smiling, conscientious and eager to learn, play and most of all have some fun. They all played and trained well together, and it was spectacular to see them gel as a team right from the get go.

We witnessed many noticeable improvements this year from all players and the Numbats should be proud of their progress this year. This seasons training sessions focused on ball control, teamwork and goal shooting.

As the season progressed the Numbats developed accurate foot work and improved their skills and confidence to take on the opposition when given an opportunity. They displayed excellent ball control with some of the boys trying especially hard to use their non-dominant foot to dribble and pass.

Along with their fantastic attack, they also excelled in their defence, anticipating and reading the play to find an opportunity to intercept and tackle the ball.

However above individual attack or defence, teamwork was one of their biggest strengths. They were brilliant at looking for opportunities to pass and cross the ball as a method to score goals. The Numbats showed great skill and maturity looking for an opportunity to pass to their teammates, who got better and better at making space and getting in a good position. The teamwork, passing and vision shown by the Numbats this year was an absolute pleasure to watch.

Congratulations to all the boys on a fantastic season of dedication, enthusiasm and skill. You have been a pleasure to coach and manage, and on behalf of all parents, family and friends, thanks for a great year - you can all be very proud of what you achieved in 2013.

The boys are looking forward to playing together again on the bigger field in the U/8s next year, and we can't wait to see how they go! U7 Numbats 2013: Rowan Brischetto, Oliver Dickens, Jasper Douglas, Tate Firth, Jye Mackin, Louis Short, Hayden Stretton Coach: Tony Firth Manager: Geoff Mackin

U7 Raccoons (non competition) Another great season was had by all “Racy” Raccoons. I would like to give a special thanks to our manager Peta for all the work that she put into the team this season. I would like also thank the parents of the Raccoons with helping out through the season with our two rules #1 Have Fun and #2 Team Work. Aidan- Once again shows his big kicking style from down the back of the field, getting the ball up to the rest of the team. Catlin- With her new pink boots found herself in the thick of packs trying her best to win the ball, most of the time by herself. Chelsea- Also kept her standard of powerful kicks up this season, most of the time to the astonishment of most the boys. Daniel- had a complete change around from last season and found himself up the front scoring goals. Mia- Her first year to playing football and had a great time keeping up with the rest of the team and even scoring a goal in the season. Bodie- New to the team this year he fitted in well with the rest of the Raccoons and soon showed all of us his great ball skills. Matilda- Once again kept up her standard of team work and sportsman(woman)ship by helping any player that may have fallen over in a game. U7 Raccoons 2013: Aidan Anderson, Bodie Bennett, Daniel Brown, Mia Cini, Matilda Holder, Caitlin Morelbutterworth, Chelsea Stein Coach: Scott Holder Manager: Peta Butterworth

U7 Zebras (non competition) What an amazing year. This team has faced some challenges this year and rose above them with their heads held high. I was lucky enough to coach a group of strong, talented but caring children this year. Eli has such a passion for the game and will go far. Luke has a gentle style of play but very effective. It took me most of the season to figure out who was Ronan and who was William but their bond on the field showed them to be valued members of the team. Declan is so keen on the game of football he shows this in every ball he kicks and every tackle he makes. Alfie was new to the team this year but you wouldn’t have known it, he has a raw talent which showed very early on and has kept growing. Lastly, I had the pleasure of coaching my son, Addi. I am so proud of the player he has become. I also want to thank several people who helped me make this season as great as it was. Carolyn - for the exceptional management of our players, parents and me. Allan - for helping out at the training when my work kept me away. Parents - for bringing your wonderful children to the field and making the day an event. I am looking forward to next year and seeing these awesome children run on the bigger field. How exciting! U8 Bears (non competition) For a team that had not played together before the U8 Bears went from strength to strength each week. Their skills and abilities grew as the season progressed and they should be proud of the way they played as a team. A special mention goes to Tohby Cacchillo in his first season playing he proved to have some valuable skills. Also Kyren DeStoop and Alice Bishop showed some very promising talent. U8 Bears 2013: Lukas Banks, Riley Bennett, Alice Bishop, Tohby Cacchillo, Sam Crook, Kyren DeStoop, Harry Hicks, Samuel McGregor, Madeleine Rummery, Levi Scott, Liam Walsh Coach: Julie Hicks Manager: Amy Walsh

U8 Dingoes (non competition) Another fabulously fun and successful season for the Under 8 Dingoes. All boys continued to improve their soccer skills, whilst demonstrating great teamwork and sportsmanship.

Lachlan C – with his great footwork Lachlan continues to blitz through the defence, always pushing the ball forward and regularly rocketing the ball into the goal. With great vision, Lachlan can strike a ball into the net from anywhere on the field.

Sam – The team’s gentle giant, Sam is equally strong in both his attack and defence. With a great eye and solid passing skills, Sam can be trusted to thread the ball up the middle for his team mate’s to connect with. One of the team’s top goal scorers, Sam also excels as a goalkeeper and could be viewed as the perfect all-rounder.

Joel – With his amazing speed, Joel can be trusted to chase down and save many a goal. Joel employs superb skills in tackling and challenging the opposition for the ball. His pace and skills in attack and defence make him a worthy adversary for any opposing team.

Scott – Showed great footwork and amazing ball skills throughout the season. Scott often dazes and confuses the opposition, as he weaves spins and effortlessly moves the ball around the field. A solid and unshakable player, Scott often finds himself in a great position to strike.

Matthew L. - Demonstrates excellent footwork and can cross the ball perfectly for his team. He is a quiet achiever, who consistently illustrates his super skills on the field, scoring one of the best goals of the season. Matthew is a talent goalkeeper whose quick reflexes have saved some outstanding shots on goal this year.

Oliver – is superior in defence, and is able to clear the ball at the most pertinent times. His passing is exceptional, as is his ability to kick the ball down the line. Ollie has great vision and always placing himself in the best position to both connect with and pass the ball to his team

Tom – One of the team’s midfield stars, Tom takes control of the centre of the field. Like his brother Ollie, knows when to clear the ball and challenge for the ball. Tom can be relied on to guide the ball up through the middle, and position himself for a shot on goal.

Lachlan. S – Mr reliable in defence, Locky has saved countless goals this season and is an invaluable defensive player. He accurately reads the moves of the opposing side and defuses many of their attacks. Locky has scored some outstanding goals this year and when he clears the ball, watch out!!! The power is deadly!

Matthew. S – Scored one of the best goals all season and consistently shows great passing, throw ins and ball skills. Matt is always hungry to put his foot on the last touch of the ball to connect with the back of the net. He is a great team player and is always first to congratulate his own team and praise the skills of the opposing side.

Jya – Showed some great grit and determination in bringing the ball up the field this season, and was quick to accurately pass the ball to his team mates to gain improved field position. A valuable member of the team, Jya continues to gain confidence both on the field and in his own abilities.

U8 Kangaroos (non competition) What a big year for the Kangaroos! We moved into the larger format of the Under 8’s game, and with all its new rules and new ways of playing soccer, the season proved to be a great learning curve for the team. Throughout the year, the team and every individual really did improve and it is fair to say, we finished the season on a high, saving our best game for the last round. What a game! Thank you to Carmen for her excellent role as Manager. Thank you to all the parents whose support and help throughout the season was invaluable. Also, thank you to Colin Robertson who did an awesome job refereeing every one of our home games. Finally, thank you to Asa, Ashley, Ben, Cameron, Declan, Holly, James, Lucca, Max, Owen, and Zoe. U8 Numbats (non competition) This season the boys progressed to the bigger field; more players a side and goal keepers for the first time. It was pleasing to see the development of the boy’s skill levels and team work as the season progressed. Good passing and better positional play were all evident this year. A big thank you to Lance and Jon who coached the team through the year and to all the parents who cheered on and supported the boys in fine sporting fashion for the whole season. Austin: New to the team this year, he excelled in both attack and defence. A tireless worker and fearless tackler. Well done Austin! Great work Harrison Alex: He is a talented player with all the attributes; speed, skill and stamina. Scored and set up many goals. Well done Alex! U8 Wolves (non competition) This year was another fantastic year for the Wolves. The year was full of exciting moments, from darting runs by Riley and exceptional goals by Texas. Plenty of great dribbling by Chelsea, Chyna and Anastasia along with lots of conversation on the field most of the time to do with the game and with a little bit of gossiping about what happened at school as well. (Team bonding they called it). We came a long way this year; players like Molly, Evan and Olivia improved their ball skills more than I could have asked for. Especially Evan whose confidence and determination grew with every game.

For a team that only had two original players from last year we gelled quickly and competed hard and fair with some moments of brilliance like when we played down at Blaxland and Gabriel looked like in goals, and when Wilken was able to dribble all the way past all the players on the other team, around the referee, lines person and sometimes even the spectators watching the game brought plenty of smiles to all the parents and loved ones watching.

A huge shout out to Kim and Mick for all their time and effort throughout the year and for their shouting from the side lines along with all the other parents who I would also like to thank for their support and encouragement to all the players. Great bunch of people.

Can’t wait for next year, well done guys.

U9 Monkeys (non competition) This year has brought a new group of players for the make up of the team. The mix of players brought with them skill from previous soccer playing. The coach and assisting parents guided the players in enhancing previous skills and new methods of the game. This assisted in the development of the player’s concepts and understanding required for the game of soccer. The team gave a wholehearted effort to the games played with losses, draws and wins. The enthusiasm of the players on the field and their determination to score goals made for individual skill development, which improved with each and every player during the season. A final mention for the team is the support of the parents and guardians of the players who assisted with the team and in extra club activities required of the team. This support greatly enhanced the team spirit and encouraged the young team players in the spirit of teamwork. U9 Monkeys 2013: Rohan Borg, Jesse Flook, Jordan Hather, Bailey King, Declan McKay, Marcel Schwarz, Lachlan Tarleton, Dylan Watt, Oliver Weeks Coach: Josh Tarleton Manager: Melinda Morris

U9 Numbats (non competition) It has been a great privilege to coach the U9 Numbats through the 2013 season. There has been a strong emphasis this year on skill development and positional play. Players have learnt how to short and long dribble; as well as peripheral vision dribbling. They have practised kicking with the inside and outside of both feet as well as the instep. They have developed the skill to beat another player with either a body swerve or a foot shimmy.

They have also worked on the skill of finding space on the field utilising the wings and passing into space; as well as passing directly to a player. Players have learnt how to throw the ball in to develop an attack and how to be in the correct positions for corners and goal kicks. The skill of heading has been introduced as has the use of the wall pass.

Results in the games have varied; but improved towards the end of the season once players were encouraged to begin developing a commitment to specialised field positions. This allowed genuine teamwork to develop and players to get a strong idea of their particular role in the overall game.

Perhaps the most important skills to be developed were in the area of sportsmanship. Training during the year evolved into disciplined sessions of hard work and skill development. Players gave their all to help each other play well. The whistle of the referee was always listened to and respected; and other teams were treated with respect in victory or loss. Above all else players developed self-respect for their own ability.

To each and every team member I extend my strongest congratulations. You are a fine group of young people, from fine families, who all deserve great praise. Thank you.

U9 Raccoons (non competition) 2013 was a fantastic season for the U9 Racoons. We kicked off training with Jayden mid-week (who during the season became our Saturday coach) and we secured the lovely Danielle to take over the coaching position on Wednesdays. Thanks deservedly go to these two amazing coaches. Their dedication to the team, fantastic training sessions and positive guidance on game day saw the team have a wonderful season. Thanks also to Deb who organised all the other stuff in between and got us to where we needed to be on time and with clean shirts! Our biggest thanks must extend to you, the family and friends of all of our players - the team cannot do what they do without your support and good humour for attending training (sometimes in the cold and wet) plus getting to our games on Saturdays.

The Racoons have progressed and developed their skills beyond our wildest dreams all due to their enthusiasm, energy and tremendous team spirit! It was especially amazing since we had some new faces this year and we all got on superbly.

We took turns in various positions and through this have begun to develop each player into well rounded soccer players. It was always great to see the ball passing around the field and each reading the others play, looking for openings when in attack, and watching out for the opposition when in defence.

Here is our awesome team for 2013:

Keegan - Worked well in defence with his kicking game improving as the season went on. Loved the back line! Kaydi - A great defender who worked hard in her position and genuinely loved it. A great goalie who was really focused. Mason - Another awesome defender who played well on the back line. A great team player who played with lots of focus. Oliver - Made great steps this year always passing ball down the field and also a great goalie. Defence was his strongpoint. David - Great in all aspects of the game and hammered a few balls down the line. Super focused when goalie. Nathan - Progressed immensely in each game, in particular with tackling and really worked his socks off. Charli - Always keen to get that ball down our end and not afraid to get in the middle! A great all- rounder. Flynn - Has a big boot on him and tried to get that ball in the net many times! Always focused on defence, mid or goalie. Samuel - Always where the ball is - a gutsy and strong player and great with long shots and dribbling. An awesome all-rounder! Kane - Great in all aspects of the game, hammering those balls when needed and nothing stops him from achieving each week. Our little legend! Cameron - Fantastic attacking abilities who put his body on the line many times this season! A true blue gutsy player. Each player deserves the coach’s award for the way they have developed from individuals into a genuine football team. You all should be proud of yourselves as Jayden, Danielle and Deb are. Congratulations and well done U9 Racoons!!! U9 Sharks (non competition) The U9 Sharks this year were an amalgamation of two different teams from last year. As our new team settled in through the trial games the boys bond together as a team was visibly growing each week.

To start preparing the boys for their soccer futures they were encouraged to gravitate towards their natural positions on the field which saw the boys talents emerge and develop as the team went from strength to strength. Losing only two games this year I was proud to see the boys play each game with exceptional sportsmanship, humility and enjoyment. These boys are a credit to each and every parent who helped make this year such a success.

I’d like to make special mention of our manager this year Trevor Cox, who’s assistance throughout the year has helped make this my most enjoyable season yet. I was also lucky enough to have Greg Power as assistant coach and Raf De Hombre as our Team statistician. Thank you both very much.

The parents this year became an integral part of our team and were given the arduous task of choosing a player of the week after each game. I’m sure Trevor (Manager) would like to join me in particularly thanking our parents for helping make Canteen and BBQ duties this year such an easy process.

Lastly I’d like to thank the boys who came to training each week with an undying enthusiasm and energy, eager to learn and play this great game. Each of the boys can look forward to a long and enjoyable playing future. I’m confident those who choose to covet a representative future will represent themselves, their club and their families with dignity and respect. I wish them all the greatest of success in the future and hope to see them all back next year. U9 Zebras (non competition) 2013 has been a fantastic year for the U9 Zebras. We were joined by three new players at the beginning of the season who fit the team like a glove. Charlie proved himself as a formidable back and prevented many goals to our advantage. Ben and Dylan added brilliant depth to our forward line, taking no time at all to become an important part of our strike team. Michael and Diesel continued to hone their skills in the forward line and, not only scored many goals, but showed an enthusiasm for the game which spurred everyone on. Blake played across the field during the season and proved difficult to stop once on the run. Josh used his incredibly big kick to clear the ball and keep us out of trouble on a number of occasions. Isaac also played in a number of positions during the season and displayed an amazing ability to read play from the back line and during the last few games proved to be a very effective goalie. Finn sums up our season for 2013 an incredible improvement of skills. He plays the game with a special love and enjoyment and always, ALWAYS has an infectious smile on his face. Thanks Finn! It has been a pleasure to watch this team grow together over the 2013 displaying awesome talent and team spirit. I couldn’t be more proud of the boys in their improvement, their love for soccer has made Saturday mornings the place to be. Well done Zebras! U10/1 Black (non competition) The U10 have had a great year. I’m sure I speak for all the parents when I say how proud I am of this team and the way they performed throughout the year. 2013 saw the players develop not only their individual skills but their ability to play as a team. The players learnt how to read the play of the game, looking for openings when in attack and marking the opposition when in defense. Their understanding of team work improved with each game they played and was evident with their ability to pass the ball and set up plays. The team were a competitive team. The players played with enthusiasm and determination, showing great sportsmanship with each game. Thank you to all the parents for their support not only for their own child, but for the team, coach and manager. Your commitment was greatly appreciated. U10/2 Black (non competition) The team had a sensational season. There is simply no other way to describe it. From 17 matches played this season, the boys had 17 wins, scoring an unbelievable 186 goals, and only conceding 11. Word quickly got around the U10 Division 2 competition that the Springwood United “Black” team were the “Annihalators.” From the start of the season, after being graded as the Division 1 side, coach Mick Maurer was able to manufacture a formidable and dominant line upfrom the first game. Whilst throughout the season the boys lacked a competitive opposition, competition from within the team was immense which saw the boys developing their skills both individually and as a team collectively. The attitude of the boys at training was outstanding, and this was taken onto the field most games which saw outstanding football played. Whilst our goal keeper Caleb did not get much work this season, his understanding of the role, positional play and communication with his defenders was outstanding. Defenders, Miles, Liam and Mitch worked well at the back with not much getting past them, and they were the start of many pushes forward resulting in an abundance of goals this season. Lachlan, Ollie, Owen and Alwyn dominated the midfield this season, often turning defence into attacking raids for our strikers and flankers. Max on the right and Nick on the left flanks provided outstanding service for the strikers this season, scoring countless goals throughout the season. Ethan, Leo, Nathan who predominantly played in the striker positions this season developed the ability of being able to be in the right place at the right time, scoring numerous goals after receiving excellent service from the backline, midfield and flankers. Well done boys. On behalf of Coach Mick Maurer and myself I would just like to thank the team off the field (parents) for your support throughout the season. This included shirt washing, canteen and bbq duty, getting the boys to training, setting up the goal posts for home games and assisting with refereeing duties when asked. Both Mick and I are looking forward to working with the boys in the upcoming 2014 season. U10/2 White (non competition) This was the first year for the boys playing as a team. The sportsmanship of each player was outstanding and I was proud to see them each week getting in there, having fun and being great sports no matter which opposing team they were playing. The boys had a go at every position during the year and as the year progressed started to have their favourite positions which they were strongest in. The boys played well as a team and throughout the year got better at knowing each other strengths and weaknesses. The passing game of the team was outstanding, it was great to see them pass the ball out wide and then cross back in to the goals. The players were Lachlan (extremely fast and great in attack), Braedyn (great mid field and goalie skills), Aidan (fast defender), Sam (great centre defender, prepared to push forward), Matthew G (great mid fielder with a deadly left foot), Oscar (very strong in goals and defence), Louis (great mid fielder and attacker), Jack (great at dribbling between the opponents), Joseph (great defensive skills), Nick (great ball control and deadly right foot), Eamonn (always ready to attack or defend), Zack (great all-rounder, ready to play in any position), Matthew W (deadly right foot, and great dribbling skills). I’d like to thank Liz for all the hard work she puts in as manager, keeping us all fully informed of what is going on and who is supposed to bring what. I’d also like to thank Brendan for filling in as coach when I was away, and for all the parents for the support and encouragement they have given the boys and to Liz and myself. It is always a lot easier coaching a team when the parents are fully supportive and love watching the boys have fun. U11/1 (non competition) This year was always going to be a challenge for the 4 members from last year Div 1 who had to adapt to a brand new team and the new members that came up from Division 2 and 3 who had to step up to play division 1. We started the year with some heavy losses but in saying that we did not play to badly with some of the results not really reflecting on how well we played. However, as the year progressed so did the team. We started to gel and the teams who thought we may have been easy beats from the first round soon realized that was no longer the case. Through hard work and a new attitude at training, the team lead by last year’s Div1 members Amaya, Kane, Josh and Hunter along with the combination of Bernie, Gabe, Aiden and Isaac, the continuous improvement of Orlando, Cameron and Callan and finally Llewellyn’s great efforts in goals, went from struggle street to, I believe, the most improved side in the 11/1 competition. The final game of the year reflected that improvement after defeating PFC 3-1 who had previously beat us 5-1. It was a great game for us and a very positive way to end this year’s season, so much so coach got a little excited and had to do a little celebratory trick just before fulltime to show his team why he coaches and does not play. (What happens on the field stays on the field right team?). I would like to thank Liam, Matthew and Jack for helping us throughout the year, my Manager Mal who did a fantastic job and the parents and carers who entrusted me with their children. Finally, I would like to thank my team for their awesomeness, bring on 2014. U11/3 (non competition) We started the year with a group of boys that mostly had not played together before coming from different divisions/sports. With a couple of tough games in the trials we eventually found our feet and went on to have a great year, only losing 3 games, one to a team that was put back into division 2 after re-grading. It was great to see the boys come together as a team and also see the individual improvement in all the players. All the boys scored a goal this year and all played their part in what I would call a successful year. It cannot go unmentioned the great job the coach Geoff Kennedy has done with the team. U11/3 2013: Thomas Ford, Jake Gollan, Jack Graham, Elliot Hartley, Logan Heron, Matthew Kennedy, Justin Kralj, Luke Major, Jack Murphy, Liam Stratford, Aaron Stubbs Coach: Geoff Kennedy Manager: Mark Stratford

U11/5 (non competition) What a fun-filled and positive season it has been for the team. Parents, family and friends have all enjoyed watching our team grow and improve each week. We started this season with a mixture of new and experienced players, however this did not put off the players who were keen to make new friendships and play as a team out on the field. They have developed in confidence and become a more cohesive team with each game. Thank you to all the parents for your support and the players for making it a fun year, see you all next season. Saturday Football – Competition Team Reports

U12/1 – Runners Up It was an amazing year which saw the boys’ finish 2nd in the regular season competition. The teams were split into 2 play-off groups with the winners of each meeting in the Grand Final. After 3 games played we finished joint top in our pool with an identical record to Penrith FC. Even though we finished higher than Penrith in the first regular season group, Nepean decided that we play a final decider, and what a tense exciting match that was! We played superbly and won 2-1 securing a place in our second consecutive Grand Final. Unfortunately, Colo scored 3 early goals which we couldn’t recover from, but to the boys credit, they never gave up and fought hard to the very end. I couldn’t be prouder of the spirit and sportsmanship the boys displayed all season.

Now to the team: Our strikers – Connor, Jack and Max. Scoring goals for fun and ripping opposing defences apart, they certainly were a handful, proven by all the penalties we won! Our midfielders – Ben, Lleyton, Liam B, Oli and Zach. Hard working, tough tackling, exciting wing play and plenty more! Lleytons deliveries into the box were a delight. Our defence – Jarrod, James, Ko and Andrew. Keeping clean sheets and protecting our goal, these 4 boys worked tirelessly all season and proved a real strength again for our team. Our Goalie – Liam W. A great shot stopper with a massive drop kick. Liam showed no fear in goal and kept us alive in countless games. Our super subs – with injuries and players away, we had to call on several U11 players to fill in for us over the season. None of them let us down and they certainly didn’t look out of place playing up an age group. Special thanks to Gabe and Matthew who played in the finals for us as well as Amaya, Callan and Liam who helped us out during the regular season. Thanks to the coaches and managers of the U11/1’s and U11/3’s who put up with us borrowing their players.

Finally, a huge thank you to Pat for coaching the team this year. His passion was on display every game and the boys fed off it playing an exciting brand of possession football. Every player improved and I can’t recall a single boy wanting the training sessions to end. Thanks for a memorable season! U12/1 2013: Lleyton Agius, Liam Bishell, Ko Boeser, Oliver Clancy, Andrew Davey, Benjamin Filla, Jack Hawkins, Zachary Kembrey, Max Peters, James Roberts, Connor Thorpe, Liam Warrick, Jarrod Wilson Coach: Pat Agius Manager: Kelvyn Peters

U13/1 – 6th This year was one of learning for both the team and the coach. At the start of the year we had new faces, a new coach and a new team. The competition was hard fought and difficult at times for us all as we struggled at the start of the year to stop the opposition from scoring. This team never gave up and always gave 100% at every game. Their commitment and improvement was evident every time we went across the stripe to test ourselves every week. We turned the corner and finally found our feet and belief in ourselves. Once we came together as a team identity we proved we had the ability to not only compete but also win against difficult opposition. We attacked the knock out competition with a solid belief and a commitment to each other, which saw us win our first knock out game. We began the game against Penrith FC with the opportunity to make the grand final. We started with aggression and passion and scored early to lead the premiership favourites. For a period of time we played with 10 men and staggered to the finish line going down 2 – 1. I watched that game with pride never seeing one player drop their head and always attacking the opposition with a passing game that I was proud to coach.

A special thanks to Paul Brazier for all of his support and assistance throughout the year. You are a very good manager and a gentleman to boot. A big thankyou also to Craig Harrison who assisted with the team all year, both at training and on game day. You both have a great deal to offer any team you are associated with in the future Lastly, to the team, all of you are a credit to the club, your family and yourselves. Congratulations, well done and I look forward to seeing everyone next year playing football. U13/3 White – Runners Up The team has had a roller coaster season with constant highs and lows . To the credit of the entire team they never gave up when faced with difficult situations. Our season started against Henry Lawson with a loss and then our old sparring partners Richmond which typically ended in a draw. The boys then managed to win every game right until our final game where we were playing for the Minor Premiership against Richmond. Goalkeeper Tim Hurley injured his shoulder mid –season and thankfully Oscar Wheatley stepped in to the goalkeeper role in his absence. To Tim’s credit he played a field player for a number of weeks to give the team the bare 11 on the field. There was a string of games where could only field 10 but the boys dug their heals in, put their heads down and got on with the job. Jack Prineas, Josh Smith, Nick Sirmais and Oscar Wheatley were a driving force up front and bamboozled the opposition with spectacular crosses and switches in play. Jesse Rheinberger showed great skill and carved up the middle with his mid-field partner Sam Heritage who scored a hat-trick, toured England for 5 weeks and scored another hat-trick on his return game. Bailey Ellis hunted down the opposition attack like a heat seeking missile and Max Ong took them head on and both boys proved to be a defensive wall. Toby Frost covered a lot of ground and played multiple positions through the year and excelled at all of them. The team made Summerhayes Park their fortress and were unbeaten at home all season. Finishing with the 2nd lowest goals conceded in the competition was a huge credit to Tim Hurley’s goal keeping. Keeping in mind that 5 of our games the team played with 10 players. 40 seconds into our minor premiership deciding game against Richmond Adam Cameron dislocated his knee and was taken away in an ambulance. He made a very gutsy appearance in the Grand Final and showed true commitment to his team. Ben Allan played every game and made a huge impact in every position always turning defence into attack. However in a cruel blow he was ruled out of the Grand Final with the flu and looked on from the sideline. A great season from a dedicated team of young men to endure so much and still make the Grand Final U13/3 White 2013: Ben Allan, Adam Cameron, Bailey Ellis, Toby Frost, Sam Heritage, Tim Hurley, Max Ong, Jack Prineas, Jesse Rheinberger, Nick Sirmais, Josh Smith, Oscar Wheatley Coach: Graeme Ellis Manager: Jo-anne Allan

U13/3 Black – 4th This team has left me at the end of the season both immensely proud and amazed by the progress and commitment of all players. The boys came together at the beginning of this season from a number of teams and from the outset performed as a well drilled unit and ended the season with the highest number of goals scored by any team in the competition and the honor of being the only team to beat Minor Premiers Richmond. With the team getting off to a good start it allowed the opportunity to test some of the boys in positions they may not have tried before and within a short period of time each boy had found positions they were comfortable in and which best matched their skills. Our frontline of Ben Paul, Riley Thompson, Callum McKay and Ryan Nightingale consistently found their way through enemy defences and scored some amazing goals both from long range and close in. The speed and long legs of our midfield combination of Mathew Mendham, Jarrah Tuckerman and Ben Hingston ably supported their team mates at the front and chipped in with their own bag of goals. Justin Kelly and Joshua Waters both provided well needed support to both the attack and defence in the positions of stopper and central defence and always seemed to be in the right place at the right time to spoil the other teams attack and finally when all else failed and attack turned to defence, our solid back wall of Ehren Natter, Callum Thorburn and Jeffrey Gismondo could always be relied upon to stop an attack in its tracks and when all else failed Isaac Breia was always prepared to put his body on the line to get to the ball. Finally Nick McMaster who as a late inclusion slipped in to the position of defender as if he had been with the team from the beginning and who became a pivotal interchange in the backs. What has pleased me most about this team is the spirit that they played their games, this shone through with the encouragement they gave each other and the way that many of their goals were set up, they all showed a maturity well beyond their years. In closing I would like to thank our Manager Melinda Morris for dealing with all the paperwork and Graeme Ellis for all his assistance encouragement and organizational skills. Without Graeme’s effort and enthusiasm the U13 age group would not have been as strong and as close knit as it is. Finally to all the parents thank you for all your support during the season. U14/1 – 5th What a brilliant season! After a slow start to the season, the boys finished strongly, only missing a Grand Final appearance by one goal. The team’s chemistry was exceptional, given the various abilities of the team. These boys will make a great U15 division 1 team. U15/1 – 4th Season 2013 drew together a mix of players from several teams of previous seasons with 3 of those players coming up an age group to form a new team that needed to gel quickly if they were to be competitive in such a strong competition. With the level of individual skills available the team had the ability to play a great style of passing and attacking football which they produced on many occasions to make the games enjoyable to watch. There were some fantastic goals scored, either setup as a team, or via passages of individual brilliance or great striking technique. The defensive team worked hard and performed well under pressure with our main weakness being vulnerable on the counter attack, any area that the boys worked hard to improve by season end. Our goalkeeper when called upon was agile and applied tremendous shop stopping ability to keep us in some tight contests. The season also saw some missed opportunities through lapses in focus that the boys learnt hard lessons from and drew upon these to finish the season strong, culminating in a game of the season for the team against Glenmore Park the undefeated premiers of several seasons. You gave them a real scare and it was a very proud moment for the team collectively and inspirational for your coach to see such fighting spirit and mongrel played out with good sportsmanship and fair play. Well done! Thank you to the players from the 15.2 and 14.1 who assisted with upgrades. Thank you Donna for being a Team Manager who communicates efficiently with all throughout the season, washes the jerseys and gets the job done to leave the coach to tend to the team. Thank you to Stuart Tait for all of his assistance and support at training and games as well as advice when called upon. Thank you to the parents, grandparents and spectators who supported the team in a positive and friendly manner with no negativity or ill aimed support. Lastly, thank you to the players for challenging your coach, listening and learning, offering your input and for never giving up. It is enjoyable to see you develop as young men. Hopefully you can all return to football in 2014, if not good luck for the future and we hope to see you return in future years. U15/2 – 6th We had a very challenging season this year, after moving up a division. We struggled in some early games, encountering some very stiff competition, but by mid-season had started to lift as a team and work together. The 2nd half of the season saw some more consistent football which really surprised some of our opposition. One particular highlight was a 2nd half played late in the season with 9 men, in which we pulled off some of the best football of the year. Tristan and Lachlan gave their all in goals, and Lachlan played formidably in any position. Jack, Ben O, Hugo, and Ben S-W formed the backbone of our defence and frustrated the opposition with their resilience. Special mention to Bailey, who was out for most of the season due to illness and sadly missed. Wilson, Daniel, James, formed a strong defensive midfield and skillfully fulfilled their duties. Our forwards Quinn, Angus, Morgan, and Gianni we dynamic up front and never stopped trying. Thank to Sam for being willing to take on the duty at very short notice, and to Ray for helping consistently out as assistant coach. Thanks to all the Dads who lent a hand this year all the times we needed stand in coaches. And, finally, thanks to all the parents for all the support throughout the year. U15.3 – 8th This season was very challenging for the team which brought about some mixed results. The second half of the season however saw more consistent football from the boys, which was a direct result of improved skills and team work. This was a great bunch of kids to coach, as no matter what the result, the boys where happy and positive after each game. U16/1 – 3rd For the first time in many years we entered the season with most of our players in peak physical form and ready to take on the world (as far as the borders of Nepean). Apart from off season sports fitness (Cricket, Futsal, etc.) many in the team were grateful for the brilliant pre-season training sessions provided by Wayne Moloney (Thanks again Wayne). It was always going to be a tough year with many players committed to overseas family holidays, major school excursions and the inevitable string of injuries that come from being 15 and believing yourself invincible. Thankfully we were able to draw on a pool of real talent in the U15’s to fill the gaps and our thanks go out to all the guys who gave us a hand. By all standards we had a great year with only 3 losses and came very close to extending our season into the finals and beyond. We won 50% of our matches and drew more than half the rest. We had some really thrilling games and every game was fast, furious and full on, but unfortunately it wasn’t our year to come out on top. Our thanks go to all the club officials, our Coach (Pat O’Reilly) and Assistant Coach (Ian McNicoll). We are all grateful for the huge contribution you make in time and effort that enable us to take the field. A special thank you to all our devoted parents whose support over the years has never wavered and has always been greatly appreciated. No more Saturday soccer matches. Next year we enter the world of Sunday sport and the inevitable 16+ option to drive ourselves to training and matches. U16/3 - 8th As a whole our season could be summed up as UNLUCKY, we were competitive in most games only to lose by the odd goal, towards the end of season we were playing some fantastic stuff – well done guys. Luke Harridge – Played for most of the season as our goalkeeper and did a fantastic job, saved a number of certain goals throughout the season, played also a defensive midfielder for the last 3 games and controlled that position with ease. Joel Phillips – Played at Right Back and Centre Back, Joel had a great season and was one of our stand out players this season. Always tried hard and often broke up a number of attacks with some great tackling. Alex Rea – Alex generally played at left back but also had a go in midfield and on the wing, was confident in attacking and also made some excellent tackles. Tom Boys – Tom B played as our centre back for the season and made a number of great tackles, also good with heading the ball out of danger, worked well with Tom Gleeson. Tom Gleeson – Tom G was our other centre back for the season and did a great job in stemming any attack that came their way, also adopted a sweeper role during the latter part of the season, tackled well, very solid and reliable. Harry Wood – Harry played his 1st full season and did a great job as a back four player, he mainly played at either right back or left back, Harry made several excellent tackles and never gave up, always willing to learn from Coach and teammates Matthew Cave – Matt took on a defensive midfield role as well as right back, as the season progressed Matt’s ball control and distribution improved, never questioned the Coach or Manager, always tried. Jacob Manners – Jacob was my captain again this season, great leader and ALL teammates had respect for him, played as our midfield general either in an attacking role or defensive, both of which he excelled, always gave 100% in every game he played, one of our players of the season. Todd De Weerdt – Todd played the season mostly as a Left Winger where he took on defenders and generally got pasted them to deliver some excellent crosses in for our strikers, showed great speed as well as tracking back to defend. James Tandy – James was our Right Winger for the season, and like Todd was very quick and successfully taking on defenders, often put in some dangerous crosses for our strikers. Jarrod Green – Jarrod played the season in a number of attacking roles mainly as an attacking midfielder, linked up well with the strikers and scored a couple of good goals, good ball skills and can pass the ball well. Sam Galton – Sam played in midfield for the start of the season and as a back up goalkeeper, played very well and was a major part in our team until his season was caught short by injury, good passer of the ball and did a great job in goal when called upon. Callum Stopford – Callum was our Central Midfielder and often created and defused attacks, very reliable, good tackler and very quick. Cameron Hitchcock Bryn – Cameron played mainly as a striker and then dropped back into an attacking midfield role scored some great goals during the season, worked with Joel Carter, great with his head and scored a cracking header that any striker would be proud off. Joel Carter – Joel played as our striker for the season and finished as our top scorer, Joel also defended well when needed, has good speed, not afraid to shoot and was one our player of the season candidates. U16/3 2013: Luke Harridge, Joel Phillips, Tom Boys, Tom Gleeson, Alex Rea, Callum Stopford, Jarrod Green, Jacob Manners, James Tandy, Todd De Weerdt, Cameron Hitchcock-Byrn, Joel Carter, Harry Wood, Matthew Cave, Sam Galton Coach: Mark Tandy Manager: Gillian Harridge

Female Football Team Reports

U10 Girls (non competition) It was the first year that the girls have played in an all girls competition and the first year of playing for some of the girls. The girls started against a good Richmond team and unfortunately lost their first game playing together but as the weeks rolled on the team turned up each week in full numbers to training and the games and bonded well as a team. There were many draws throughout the year and the girls kept myself, Aub and I'm sure all the parents on the edge of their seats each week with great end to end nail biting soccer. As the team reached the three quarter part of the season they really hit top form with finding each other’s strengths and playing well as a team, the first win was a convincing one that came against the same team that beat them in the first game and they backed it up the following week with another win so to see them develop and end the season on such a great note was fantastic. Emily Fox Hill- played another great season with runs from the back line. Isabella Valle- first year and had a strong games week in week out and scored a couple of classy goals. Mia Leach - was dangerous when running on the wing with the ball and scored some fantastic goals. Alexandra Whitfield- played in the backs, midfield and upfront and with her pace scored many goals Amelia Dennis- first year and instantly looked dangerous in the oppositions box once she found scored her first goal there was no stopping her shots with excellent finishing Amber Hurley- played excellent games on the wings and never stopped running at the opposition. Lila Bishop- started the season as she left last year and played brilliant soccer especially when on the wings, looked dangerous when attacking the oppositions defense and set up many goals. Zoe Peters- first year playing but fitted in straight away and played hard each game in the centre mid never stopping running and dribbling through the opposition. Scored a number of goals as well as setting up many more. Rachel Rowntree- Rachel's shots on goal were lethal and once she scored her first goal there was no stopping her and also played excellent in defense. Tia Foley- first year at Springwood and fitted in well played hard each week and scored a hat trick in out first win of the season. Ellie Watson- was outstanding in defence keeping the opposition at bay and put in 100 percent every game. Scarlett Weston Cole- first year playing and developed really well throughout the year, had great runs upfront and scored many great goals. A big thank you to Aub for his help with the team this year and many of the dads who helped on the sidelines each weak, thank you to Mel our manager for keeping us organised throughout the year and finally thank you to all the parents for your support. U12/1 Girls – Runners Up What a fantastic season of football we’ve enjoyed with this remarkable team of young women. Finishing runners up in the competition, every game was exciting to see, their ability and teamwork growing from one week to the next.

As great as their skills were, it was just as enjoyable to watch the camaraderie amongst the team, many of whom played together for the first time this year. At times it was difficult to imagine how John Patterson’s coaching advice was heard over their squeals of delight on seeing each other.

It would be a mistake however to think these young women aren’t serious about their football. They play a slick passing game and are a formidable attacking force, weaving the ball down the field at times like poetry in motion. Equally, in defence, theirs is a game of steely determination. When defending their goal the look on their faces clearly says “not on my watch” and their tenacious tackling style meant mostly this was true.

A big thank you to John for his terrific work teaching the girls how to play great football – sharing his enthusiasm for the game, helping them play to their strengths and also encouraging them to work on areas where they weren't as confident.

Thanks also to Vic for managing the team and parents so ably, making sure everybody knew where they were meant to be. And finally thanks to all the parents for your support – it’s been a thoroughly enjoyable year. U12/2 Girls – 5th We started off the season as a newly formed team. Some had not played football before and some came from out of area. But the girls bonded quickly and approached each game with enthusiasm and great sportsmanship. Everyone was supportive of each other and it was wonderful to see the team improving every week. A big thank you to the fabulous parents who helped with training, canteen duty and setting up the nets. Genevieve Blandin de Chalain developed some fancy footwork skills throughout the season! A strong defender and a courageous winger who never let opposing players get in her way! Jordan Chambers was a solid and versatile player who performed equally well on the wing and in the back. Ever committed and focused, she wouldn’t stop until she dropped! Kathleen Crook decided to give netball a rest and football a try. A determined and feisty midfielder she was always cheerful and gave support to her fellow teammates on and off the field. Riley Goudis lit up the field with her smile and was undeterred by anything opponents threw at her. A gutsy all-rounder, taking on the role of goalkeeper when needed and keeping up morale on the sidelines. Nina Ho, sweeper extraordinaire, turned the play around at every opportunity with her dogged determination and skill. Fast and precise, she was an impenetrable force to be reckoned with! Maya Johns, despite being new to the game, scored nearly every one of our goals! A speedy, resolute striker as well as a strong defender, she had a knack of being in the right place at the right time. Danielle Leehy was another newbie who launched into the sport with enthusiasm and heart. Improving by the week she delivered some well-timed passes and solid defence on the wing.

Isabella Ligteringen, a fearless and creative player gave 110% in every game. Often first to the ball she worked tirelessly in midfield and up front, putting in some powerful kicks. Anikka Millar, goalkeeper and rock solid defender saved many a goal from being scored by the opposition! Unflappable under stressful conditions, she kept the team cool, calm and collected. Bronagh Pell didn’t do anything by halves! Her gritty determination saw her challenge for the ball wherever she was on the field, including in goals where she saved some crucial shots. Astrid Sarazen didn’t let a broken leg at the start of the season slow her down! Once the cast was off, so was she, working hard in midfield and up front. A spirited and resourceful player. Zoe Scott the pocket rocket who, despite her small size, could boot the ball from one end of the field to the other! Fast and agile she held a solid line of defence in the back and midfield. Holly Skinner zipped her way through opposing players, beating them to the ball time and time again. Nimble and bold, she was a formidable force on the field, both in attack and on the wing. Marli Thomson played hard and fast, setting up shots for the strikers and defending the middle. She developed some deft tackling skills over the season and never let a knock keep her down. U12/2 Girls 2013: Genevieve Blandin de Chalain, Jordan Chambers, Kathleen Crook, Riley Goudis, Nina Ho, Maya Johns, Danielle Leehy, Isabella Ligteringen, Anikka Millar, Bronagh Pell, Astrid Sarazen, Zoe Scott, Holly Skinner, Marlena Thomson, Imogine Vickers Coach: Keely Gregory Manager: Tonje Akerholt

U14/1 Girls – 6th As David Beckham once said, "My parents have been there for me, ever since I was about seven." And with that I was entrusted by the good parents of Springwood to coach our U/14 Girls to glory and beyond. At the start of the season I would have been happy with a couple of wins and everyone having a healthy dose of match time ultimately enjoying the beautiful game. As it was it ended up being a season of two halves. Out of the first 8 games we won only one against St Clair (3 -1) and were perhaps unlucky not to get a few draws against Wentworth Falls and Bligh Park. Half way through the season we were last with a game separating us from 9th position. Though, as Glee sings 'Don't stop believing' and with that the girls trained hard, and as we all know, football is as much about the mind as it is about the skill. With that we finished the second half of the season with 4 solid wins, 3 draws (2 of which we were unlucky not to win) and 1 loss to the eventual champions, Blaxland; also the only team we didn't get a point off all season. However credit goes to our kids who turned their season around and in the process garnered a tremendous amount of confidence, skill and mental toughness. The highlight was our last game of the year at home, where we defeated eventual Grand Finalists Jamisontown 1 - 0. We showed fight, grit, skill, counter-attack and a 'never say die' attitude. Eventually we finished 6th - with 5 wins and 3 draws - with 50% of our games giving us a result. The girls got to play in various positions throughout the year, helping them understand the roles and skill set one needs to acquire to fully appreciate the game. A big thank you to Brian our manager, Nigel who helped manage the team when Brian was unavailable, to all the parents who supported the team throughout the year and a big personal thank you to Deb & Colin for their encouragement throughout the season. Look forward to seeing our girls run around the park with improved skill and focus in 2014. And thank you for letting me coach the team in season 2013. And as once said "I would not be bothered if we lost every game as long as we won the league." Samantha Black - Tall forward like the Socceroos Josh Kennedy. Wonderful. Naomi Driscoll - Our Schwarzer and rolled into one. Invaluable.

U16/2 Girls – 3rd With two year age jumps almost every year is a new team for the girls. For many playing U16’s marked a move from Saturday afternoon football to Sunday 9am. A bit of a shock to the system. It was a mixed season – we beat every other team in the competition at least once and had the best defence. With that record we should have finished better than third. Unfortunately we did not always play at our best against the teams below us and often played to the level of the opposition. We started the year with a large squad of 15 and yet at one stage only had 8 on the field. A special mention to Kelsey on the injury front – she returned late in the season from an early ACL injury only to fall at training and do the AC in her shoulder and ligament damage to her ankle. Determined she made it back for the last game – which she survived in one piece. The team came together well and with some real characters in the team training was rarely dull. It was a balanced team with seven of the girls scoring during the year in what was a real team effort. Our defence was our strong point with Emily in goals and Jess at centre back. Brid and Mel provided speed and tenacity and help at training. Katrina looked like she had never missed the last two years and her ball skills enabled to her to fill in up front as well as in the backs. Olivia, Lindsay and Briony provided the wide threat through the halves with Sarah, Georgii and Holly rotating through the central midfield. Our older players provided the back bone of our attack. Breianna and Bree stretched most defences with their ability to score from outside the penalty area. Lauren’s motor never stopped as she covered large distances every game. Jess also provided a dead ball threat with some cracking free kicks and corners. The parents should be proud of the spirit in which the girls played and how they got on with each other – most the time we had fun.

AAL/1 – 3rd What a fantastic 2013 season the AAL/1’s had. A mixture of ages, some only 16, and yet they were all up to the physical and mental task. The youngsters were lead superbly by the older girls who were all excellent mentors, Fiona Skrzypnik lead the way in this regard. The AAL played 14, Won 8, Drew 3, Lost 3, goals for 31, goals against 15 and accumulating 27 points “1 point behind 2nd placed”. The girls had the least amount of goals scored against them at this level. This is an awesome achievement for a newly formed team. The AA/L defeated the competition and grand final winners, the only team to do so 4-3, what a game that was and on their turf. This is the first season the girls have played together and yet they performed to high standard, as the coach I was more than pleased with their overall performance and commitment and attitude toward each other, the camaraderie was superb with all backing each other up. The work ethics were faultless and the football played overall was a joy to watch using the pass and move mentality. The defence intercepted and prevented many shots at goal, they risked injury to themselves and on many occasions started the offensive. Laura T was (as usual) a shot stopper and a very responsive GK, best in the competition without doubt. Defence: Fiona H, Jemma J, Emily A, Lucy F and Savannah W were all strong in defence, tackling and tracking with some great heading techniques. Midfield: Maddie C, Natalie M, Fiona S, Georgia D, Kiera M, Jessica A and Rachael W worked tirelessly scoring some fantastic goals and showed great support. Attack: Alyssa H, Hannah C and Melanie D never gave up and never lost their cool even when some opposition players tried to bully and take control. All these girls demonstrated great sportsmanship but most importantly grew in stature. Thanks to Andrew Harrop, an absolute gentleman and top bloke, he made my life so much easier. Thanks to the parents and other supporters and of course SUFC, a massive effort and well respected by all. AAL/1 2013: Emily Adams, Jessica Adams, Maddie Carter, Hannah Christie, Melanie Dighton, Georgia Dunham, Lucy Fenech, Alyssa Hartup, Fiona Harrop, Jemma Jones, Natalie Meehan, Kiera Minney, Fiona Skrzypnik, Laura Tredinnick, Savannah Walker, Rachael Watters Coach: Steve Jones Manager: Andrew Harrop

U18/ 2 – 2nd The boys can be very proud of their performance this year finishing second in the premiership. Each game throughout the season was competitive and always highly entertaining. With many memorable goals and goals saved. We would like to thank the boys for being patient this season as we had a large squad and getting everyone on the field was not easy. An overview of the team this season: Liam Wall: Our goalkeeper for the year who was consistent throughout the season. When playing one of the rare games on the field he scored one of our goals which contributed to us winning the game. Craig Carruthers: A quality player who was solid at the back as always. Lightening quick in defence always cleaning up the ball. Nick Duncan: A quiet achiever who was always reliable, steady and consistent in defence. Always put us on the attack with his massive goal kicks and free kicks. Joseph Lyons: A player with great enthusiasm. He improved throughout the season. A real team player. Lyndon Moss: A valuable member of the team. A real work horse of the backline. Aodan Wilkinson: Versatile player who was able to switch between the backline and midfield. Always reliable. Had a solid year. Sam Gorman: Defended strongly, good kicking and passing game. Jordan Lever: Consistently held the midfield. Showed great vision. Always turning defence into attack and always giving 100% Aidan Williams: Great enthusiasm. When the games got tough he rose to the challenge. Good in attack. Brad Conway: Consistently worked hard in the midfield. Always reliable. A great team player. Luke Simpson: Played his part every week working hard to both defend and push the ball back up the field. Matt Dyer: The larrikin of the team who was great for team spirit. A quality player who showed great intensity throughout the season. Maurie Milardi: Never stopped running on field. Wore himself out in attack and defence. Luke Lehman: A quality player who attacked well all season. Scoring a mountain of goals and giving 100%. Luke Bray: Worked hard in attack. Set up some scoring opportunities as well as scoring himself. Jacob New: A great leader who showed experience and composure beyond his years. Skillful upfront scoring a lot of cracking goals this year. Eden Stubbs: Best motivator and talker of the team. Showed great commitment, never giving up. Resulting in scoring a large amount of goals this season. We would also like to thank Nigel Stubbs for all your help and support throughout the year. We would also like to thank the parents and friends who supported, cheered and encouraged the team throughout the season. The boys were a pleasure to work with throughout the year and made our jobs as coach and manager easy. They are all mature football players and seriously fine young men. We wish you all the best for the future.

AAM/12 - 5th The AA12s started the season with barely 11 players, including an exchange student who was due back in France Mid July and a player on loan from the AA9s – just until we got more numbers. Dave the AA9 became our captain, and we ended up with a great bunch of guys, and although Bluey did go back to France, we survived the season with help from the O35/2s and the impressive U18/2s, Jordan, Eden and Luke, who reminded us how to score. In the end we were undefeated in the last 6 games of the competition. Freddy and Billy, our Aussie Rules converts, ran all day and looked like serious footballers by the end of the season. Sean Rowan and Andrew Simon defended superbly and with flair. The mercurial Josh Sayers demonstrated flashes of brilliance and Dylan discovered that he could dominate in the goal mouth to great effect – and score too. Alex Porter seemed to have the ball on a string, regularly carving through his opposition and finishing perfectly. Dave was brilliant in the unfamiliar role of keeper but took to it effortlessly, so that no one would have known he hadn’t played there all his life. His brother Danny was determined and reliable, solid in both defence and attack. Giles continued to earn the ire of his opponents, managing to turn them inside out, pulling off some perfectly positioned layoffs and a couple of goals. Mark was the dependable sweeper, and other brother Sean was sound as relief keeper, and a dedicated centre back with a mighty throw and a clearing kick to match.

Thanks to Sue Fletcher for doing the shirts EVERY week, with enormous good humour, and to all our enthusiastic supporters for an enjoyable season with many memorable moments. O35/2 - 3rd A successful season where we combined half of last season’s AA2s and half from O35-3s. The combination came together very well from the start, as if we’d been playing together for years. We performed well for most of the season. The constant disruption from byes and wash-outs upset our momentum and we eventually finished 3rd in a division we were good enough to win. We averaged 3 goals a game which always gave us a good chance of winning. There were no standout players, everyone slotted in seamlessly and it was us playing as a team that paved the way for a great season. We were at our best when we harried the opposition, defending from the front and played our passing game to perfection, creating numerous chances. We won 10 out of 14 games on the way to the grand final, where we were unlucky to lose 1-0 to Blue Mountains. In a very even game we failed to convert several chances while the opposition scored from one of their few opportunities. On the day we performed well, but didn’t get the bounce of the ball that we probably deserved. Congratulations to the team for a great season. Congratulations to Tom Goudis for a consistent effort throughout the season that saw him earn the respect of his peers to take out the coveted Players Player trophy. Coach: Tom Goudis Manager: Andrew Smith O35/ 2 2013: Brendon Ackroyd, Matthew Cavanagh, Chris Gilchrist, Tom Goudis, Andrew Graham, Craig Harrison, Scott Jacka, Sean Leehy, Peter Monnink, Peter Murphy, Ciaran O’Flanagan, Trevor Pride, Bruce Robins, Christian Shaw, Andrew Smith, Nigel Stubbs

O35/5 - 3rd The current 35/5 team was a combination of two teams from 2012 and so began the beginning of a very successful and happy union of likeminded players. The team went through the season undefeated gathering wins and draws and continued to be a united team and when the chips were down and a defeat was looming there was never a cross word, argument, or disparaging comment among the team. The team remained committed and it was very much a season of “heads up boys we’ve got this one”. The team consisted of unique characters and unique playing skills such as Mick aka “Nadia” who pulled off the most magnificent forward diving rolls. Craig the skyrocket who needed his boots adjusted to suit his shooting style. Michael “The Pornstar” who will produce a box set of his best efforts, Noel the rock who discovered soil lodged in his chest after an opposing forward asked him to get out of the way. Big Johnny who could work the angles and cut off the quick attackers with crafty play. Allan aka “Legs” who upon finding his mojo, scored three goals. During the season, Duncan “the phantom” Walker had the game of his life, unfortunately it was after his daughters 21st birthday and he can’t remember being there. Bundy Roy Clifford hobbled his way through the season yelling a lot, Rory “the man with the four foot forehead” turned goalkeepers into fisherman getting things out of their nets all season. Choc sent an email asking about a kick off time and received the reply “Who’s Mark Grima?” and Anthony “Ribs” Cavanagh had to take out an AVO against a player who chased him around Jamieson fields after the game had finished. Opposing teams were treated to Trev “The Torpedo” with his stunning strikes from outside the box; George “Mr Noisy” Papasotic bamboozling defenders with magic footwork; Tulio “The Gentleman” elegantly holding the backline and managing a brace of goals, meat slapping Brogan who could run like Usain Bolt and Derek “Mr Nice” who was steadfast in playing a good brand of footy in the backline. Our coach was Brad “Emperor Yum Cha” who stood around in goals and even managed to crack a sweat in one game; and lastly Jane “The Cheer Squad” Walker our magnificent manager who was there inspiring the team to greatness and putting up with the boy jokes every week. O35/5 2013: Craig Adams, John Baxter, Anthony Cavanagh, Michael Cini, Roy Clifford, Bradley Cook, Alan Griffiths, Mark Grima, Noel Lynch, Michael Magyary, Brogan Mulhall, George Papasotiriou, Tulio Penserini, Trevor Rowntree, Rory Shanahan , Derek Temple, Mike Voris, Duncan Walker Coach: Brad Cook Manager: Jane Walker

Prems 1st – 8th Prems Reserve Grade – 8th 2013 was our building year taking a very young side into Prems has been a big learning experience for all involved. We also did not start with a big enough squad and injuries certainly played a part in the results. The team would play great football for 70 minutes and be very competitive only to lose concentration for 5 to 10 minutes and then be punished. We had a large number of players doubling up for reserves and firsts each week and special thanks must go to Pat Bartush, Nick Carlino, Pat Rosato, Matt Dyer, Aidain Williams, Ty Parlato, Michael Sayles, Matt Frail, Ben Adams, Alex O’Connor, Mitch Robson, Nick Kramhoft, Joel Thompson, Blake Doran, Dylan O’Brien, Iain Lynch and James Walsh. The last five games showed our true potential with scoring a win against Lowlands, the eventual premiers, and pushing Colo to a draw and the other last few games were all very competitive. This all goes well for next season as the vast majority of the players have indicated that they will be returning for another run. Although the team did get punished at times, for lack of concentration, the team attitude was sensational. Not once did the team spirit drop, in fact the team showed real courage and stamina in continuing to try even in the most difficult of situations. A real credit to each and every player. The Prem reserves also consisted of a majority of young players making their debut in senior football, combining with only a few older players. Thanks to Matt Dyer, Aidan Williams, Brad Conway, Jordan Lever and Craig Carruthers from the U18s for their support, as well as the older crew from 35s – Craig, Sean, Chris and Christian. Over the season the team developed into a cohesive unit, playing some excellent football and competing well against most teams in the competition. A little more consistency would have seen the team higher placed on the table. But with a great spirit each player backed up week in week out with a positive outlook. As a testament to this spirit – the reserves were rewarded with their 1st win in the final game. Prems Squad 2013: Ben Adams, Pat Bartush, Nick Carlino, Mitch Carr, Marco Castro Gonzalez our Chilean import, Ash Dickson, Blake Doran, Joel Doran, Matt Dyer, Matt Frail, Armen Giragossian, Sam Holland, Nick Kramhoft, Iain Lynch, Lucas Magennis, Zac McIvride, Ross Morley, Dylan O’Brien, Alex O’Connor, Ty Parlato, Max Peake, Martijn Rixon, Mitch Robson, Pat Rosato, Michael Sayles, Joel Thompson, Sam Timbs, James Walsh, Aidain Williams, Thomas Winn 1st Grade Coach: Michael Robson Squad Manager: Paul Parlato Reserve Grade Coach: Iain Lynch
