Dance 129 Hip-Hop II
Catalog Statement Dance 129 provides further opportunities to extend the student's knowledge of popular dance culture and to acquire Hip-Hop techniques to meet the demands for dance in video and dance clubs today.

Prerequisite: DANCE 124 or equivalent.
Course Entry Expectations
Prior to enrolling in the course, the student should be able to: identify and define basic hip-hop dance terminology in practical and written assignments; demonstrate and explain the coordination, strength, cardiovascular fitness, and body alignment required to execute the technical aspects of hip-hop dance; reproduce a basic hip hop routine using rhythm, linking steps, and personal style development from the basic hip hop vocabulary; examine the application of hip hop terminology and styles as utilized in live, video, and in class performance; discuss the development of hip hop from the 1970’s to the present.
Course Exit Standards
Upon successful completion of the required coursework, the student will be able to: identify and define intermediate hip-hop dance terminology in practical and written assignments; demonstrate the coordination, strength, cardiovascular fitness and rhythm required to execute the technical aspects of intermediate turns and jumps in hip-hop dance; examine the social influence of hip-hop in terms of demographics, choreography, music, ethnic influence, and technical performance; discuss the development of hip-hop from street to competitive dance forms; Dance 129 Page 2 of 3
perform intermediate and advanced hip-hop combinations that utilize locking, popping, rhythm, and personal style.

The following out of class assignments may be used in this course: attendance at GCC Dance Department performances; on-line research of hip-hop from the 1970’s to the present; written evaluation of the performances attended.
