Instead of returning to her native country, Sofia went on to live in New York and got a job as a waitress. I liked her protectiveness over the other children, although I don't really understand the point of laying all that out when they disappear for her life almost forever in the first 25 pages of the book. When her mother is murdered by the ruling elite - the seeders - Aurora will need to flee from her small village back to the capitol citadel - the Seeder stronghold and the place she fled years previous when she had been forced to perform circus tricks as a 'wind dancer'. A wealthy and powerful supermarket chain owner who was less than happy to take her in, Walter Barrett was a cold and distant man who was ashamed of his daughter's mutant nature. And yet, I regret nothing. I think out of all the characters, though, Aiden and Aurora were definitely my favorite. Original Title. It took me till near the end of this book to get back into the story, but when I did, I was completely engrossed once again. I also found it really refreshing that you never knew what was going to happen and who was going to die or turn out to be the good or bad guy! Other than this and the slow start and I don't have any complaints with this book because I was very much satisfied how everything was executed so perfectly. Great characters and multilayered plot. I never felt for any of the characters and so the melange of 'every bad thing that can happen, from poisonous flora and deadly fauna to people betrayals' was just a bit too unremitting. It seemed to be heading into a love triangle but that didn't happen which was actually kind of nice to concentrate on the plot with these characters. I have divided the topic into three chapters, each featuring a female superhero and discussing different aspects of their visual and narrative presence, and analyzing how they express feminist and psychoanalytic topics both in relation to each other as well as compared to corresponding male superheroes. The first chapter looks at Wonder Woman, who is an iconic presence among superheroes in general, examines the ways in which this is accomplished through images and narrative. The second chapter discusses She-Hulk, and what is problematic about the monstrosity associated with the character. Finally, the third chapter analyzes Black Widow, and how the character challenges gender roles through both bodily image and her superhero identity. In concluding, the main points will be summarized as the superheroes are compared and contrasted to highlight the argument that I am proving.
