He also was inducted into the Downey High School Hall of national power. During his tenure with the Ducks, Horton carries Fame in May of 2003 and was honored in 2005 with the Orange County Manager of a 290-195-1 record (.592) and has led Oregon to the postseason the Year Award, given by the Orange Coast Chapter of the Society for Advancement of fi ve times, including four of the last fi ve seasons. As the Falcons’ team captain in 1973, he won the Dallas Moon Award and was a member of the state ABCA National Coach of the Year championship team. Honorable mention All-Pac-12 picks Bennett and Balta return to lead off ense: Oregon returns eight players who have started at least 14 games during their careers, including a pair of 2016 honorable mention all-conference players. SR OF Jake Bennett gave the Ducks’ lineup a signifi cant boost last season, starting 39 consecutive games after spending the fi rst 16 games as a reserve. Bennett hit a team-high .312 with eight doubles and 25 RBI, while slugging .370 and posting an impressive .419 on-base percentage. The junior hit safely in 30 of his 44 games – 27 of 40 starts – and put together 11 multiple-hit games and eight multiple-RBI games, including a monster game in the series-fi nale with Washington State in which he had a career-best four hits and three RBI. JR OF A.J. Balta led Oregon with nine home runs and 47 RBI before claiming honorable mention all-league honors. He batted just .219 but had a team- best .455 slugging percentage.

Balta chasing career records: Heading into his third season on the fi eld, JR OF/1B A.J. Balta already ranks in the top 10 in three career categories, while closing in on a number of others. Balta is fourth all-time in multiple-RBI games with 21, and needs nine more to pass Kyle Garlick (2011-14) for third. He is also tied for 10th in both career triples (7) and hit-by-pitches (15). He needs one more to move into a tie for eighth with Mitchell Tolman (2013-15) and Earl Averill, Jr. (1951-53), while needing three more HBPs to tie Brett Thomas (2011-13) for ninth on that list. Before the season ends, Balta should also rank among the career leaders in at-bats, games started, doubles, home runs and walks if he continues the pace set during his fi rst two seasons.
