Fedez’s Biography
Fedez is an Italian singer and songwriter.
His real name is Federico Leonardo Lucia. He was born in Milan, 15 October 1989, but grown up in the provinces of Rozzano and Corsico. He entered in the world of the music by taking part at different freestyle contests and he reached the final of the "Tecniche Perfette 2008". The principal themes of his songs are often social anti-capitalistic arguments with declarations against the politicians, the masonry and comunism.
In 2006 he recorded his first EP homonym, with DJ S.I.D. and Cidda and the next year he published his second EP Pat-a-Cake.
In 2010 he impressed his first mixtape BCPT, in which have collaborated artist who belongs to the italian Hip Hop and Rap scene like Emis Killa, G. Soave and Maxi B. In the same year he realized and published the third EP Diss-Agio, with the collaboration of Vincenzo from Via Anfossi and Dinamite, produced by JT. At the beginning of his carrier, Fedez was a member of the collective "Blocco Recordz", that he leaved just after the publication of BCPT because of the musical incompatibility.
In March 2011, he autoproduced his first album in studio, "Penisola che non c'è", in which he sang about the difficults of the italian politic situation and the immorality of it.
In December of the same year he produced his second album "Il mio primo disco da venduto" too; it was sponsorized by "Tanta Roba", Guè Pequeno and DJ Harsh's discographic label. In this one he speaked almost about everything he sees around himself, expecially the sad and bad things and his personal points of view. The album was made in collaboration with many artists of the italian Rap scene, like Guè Pequeno itself, Entics, Marracash, J-Ax, Jake La Furia and Two Fingerz. Next he took part at the beatmaker Don Joe and DJ Shablo Thori & Rocce 's album, in the song named "Fuori luogo" realized with Cane Secco and Gemitaiz. A year later he took part at the album "Hanno ucciso l'uomo ragno 2012", where he duetted with Max Pezzali in the song "Jolly Blu".
In the same year he uploaded on his YouTube Channel three videos entitled "Zedef Chronicles", in which the rapper told some stories of his everyday life and said that he was working on his third album in studio, named "Sig. Brainwash - L'arte di accontentare" which release was set for 2013. For this album Fedez announced some news, like a song played with guitar. the 12 of December 2012 he gained 4 nominations at the MTV Hip Hop Awards 2012: Best New Artist, Best Live, Video of the Year (with the song "Faccio Brutto") and Song of the Year (with the same song) and he won the competition.
The 29 of January 2013 he published on ITunes Store the song "Si scrive schiavitù si legge libertà" followed a few days later by the second song "Dai cazzo Federico". The 1 of March was released "Cigno nero", the third song, realized with the partecipation of Francesca Michielin. The song's videoclip was put on the web three days later.
On 5 March he published "Sig. Brainwash - L'arte di accontentare" which during the first week, gained the first position in the italian album leaderboard. In this album he sang about a lot of things, expecially his personal view of the modern society and how immoral it seems to him, making a kind of parody of our style of life and of our stupid behaviours that we often adopt to be accepted by other people.
Fedez made a Tour in Italy in honor of this album with these stops:
12 April: In Torino at the Hiroshima Mon Amour; 17 April: In Milano at the Alcatraz; 27 April: In Firenze at the Viper Theatre; 30 April: In Rome - Ciampino at the Orion [I was there]; 4 May: In Nonantola at the Vox Club; 11 May: In Cesena at the Vidia Rock Club.
Twenty days after the official release, the album had more than 30.000 sold copies, and won the golden disk, meanwhile the 20 of May 2013 "Sig. Brainwash - L'arte di accontentare" had been certified platinum disk for the 60.000 sold copies. In the same month Fedez received a nomination on the MTV Awards in the Super Man category.
On 31 May he published his fourth song named "Alfonso Signorini (Eroe Nazionale)", which videoclip was released on 14 June. Next, the 6 of August he sang with the rappers Dargen D'Amico and Mistico in the song: "Bocciofili", in the album "Vivere aiuta a non morire". The 18 of October "Sig. Brainwash - L'arte di accontentare" passed 120.000 sold copies, becoming double platinum disk.
In December, the rapper J-Ax announced the foundation of a new indipendent discographic label in collaboration with Fedez, the "Newtopia". The 5 of the same month Fedez took part at the song: "La cassa dritta" of Two Fingerz, and the 20 the rapper uploaded on YouTube a Christmas song's videoclip, called "Babbo Natale mi ha detto che i tuoi genitori non esistono" in collaboration with the rapper Fred de Palma, Denny LaHome and the Bushwaka, with them Fedez realized also the song "Twist" published on the 3 of March 2014.
The 20 of June 2014 "Sig. Brainwash - L'arte di accontentare" was certified as third platinum disk for 150.000 sold copies. In the same year he became one of the judges of the Talent show X-Factor with Morgan, Mika and Victoria Cabello.
The 10 of September 2014, Fedez announced his fourth album in studio, entitled "Pop-Hoolista", which had been released the 30 of the same month, for his own discographic label "Newtopia", with Sony Music's distribution. Before the releasment he put on YouTube two new songs with it 's respective videoclips; "Veleno per topic" on the 17 and "Generazione bho" (which was the first song of the new album) on the 29 of the same month.
Fedez recorded "Pop-Hoolista" in Los Angeles during the summer. The album has 20 songs, on many of them have worked with him italian artists like Elisa, Noemi, Francesca Michielin.
Like the other albums "Pop-Hoolista" gained the first position in the italian album leaderboard, and became golden disk by only one week from it 's publication.
The title of the album took his name from a pun. Fedez mixed together the adjectives that he uses to describe himself, like song singer and whriter and a "hooligan of pop" to show his sense of rebellion against the politic power, so he created the title "Pop-Hoolista". Also the album's cover, in which we see a policeman riding a horse with an ice cream cone sandwiched between it 's ears while he's threatening Fedez with a stick, who's slumped on the floor, vomiting a rainbow; is a hard protest against the Italian government.
He will soon make a new Tour for this album, in 2015, but the stops aren't specified yet.
In October 2014, in favour of the manifestation organized by Beppe Grillo's "Movimento 5 Stelle (Five Stars Movement)" at "Circo Massimo" in Rome, Fedez realized an unpublished song, named "Non sono partito", chosen by the organizers like the manifestation's theme song. In the same month two members of the Democratic Party, Federico Gelli and Ernesto Magorno, have asked to the Sky TV staff to remove Fedez from X-Factor because he joined the Five Stars Movement. The young rapper answered to this offense saying:
« I'm not at X-Factor to canvass and I never did, but like a citizen I have my political ideas and I haven't got any reason to hide them. The fact that just by expressing them they asked my removal from the show takes us back of 60 years to the censorship and fascism.»
The rapper is still working on "Zedef Cronicles" and he often posts a new episode.
Some critics said that Fedez has many weak points, that he's not good enought making rhymes and he choose too generalistic issues and that he's insecure in metrics.
The rockit.it website add to his weak points some critics for too simple rhymes, horrible pop refrains and an abuse of Auto-Tune just to please and sutisfy the needs of the general public.
Otherwise there are many music critics, like Gino Castaldo, that recognized in his lyrics an innovation, also from the politic view, in the scenery of the italian rap.
