Specifically the agenda for our gathering is two-fold: 1) Report to the congregation on the work being done to clarify and strengthen the partnership between the Cathe- dral and Diocese in Cathedral Place. As we heard late last year Bishop Susan commissioned retired Archbishop Colin Johnson to review this partnership. His report to the Bish- op has resulted in a number of recommendations which the Bishop, cathedral corporation and senior diocesan leaders have been considering and pursuing in recent weeks. This is an opportunity for us to hear about that work. 2) Update from the Parochial Committee on the status of the interim and search processes and the Committee’s continuing work. And finally, we look forward to a time of sharing our questions, thanks, suggestions about the life and well-being of our congregation, worship, communications and ministries in this unprecedented time. Centering Prayer Continues Centering Prayer is a practice of contemplative silence. Its purpose is to develop comfort and ease with reaching inward, listening to heart, opening to spirit. A group has met at the Cathedral to learn and to pray together since 2016. During COVID-19, we are continuing to meet via ZOOM. For more information, please contact Dale Guenter. An invitation to you, from Bishop Susan Johnson, Archbishop Linda Nicholls, and Archbishop Mark MacDonald: On Pente- cost Sunday, May 31, join us online to wor- ship, pray, and sing together with the Holy Spirit and Giver of Life. The link between the cathedral and the school house eliminated a cold, breezy walk in winter after a service for coffee, and smoothed the flow for large services from the vesting area and to re- ceptions. After a close vote between chairs and pews, moveable pews pro- vided a compromise. Cream-colored walls replaced the battleship grey, and the crimson ceiling of the nave was extended to the chancel. The cur- rent floor covering replaced worn-down pine in the seating areas and grey tiles in the aisles. The cathedral became much brighter and inviting. Unfortunately, the proposed columbarium would not fit within the budget, although the crypt area was extended to provide the space and a link between the front and back sections. Dean Jo Fricker had proposed including a columbarium, partly as a means of reducing the costs of funerals. It was not until 1992 that the columbarium became a reality, thanks to energetic leadership of Noreen Wigle, whom Dean Harry Dawson asked to chair the committee. Niches were sold in advance. The Endowment Committee provid- ed a loan to provide the balance of the funds needed, and this loan was quickly repaid. I remember the joking between friends, when they learned who their future, long-term neighbors would be, with mock complaints about the lowering of the tone of the neighborhood. Niches may be purchased by members of the Cathedral, the Diocese, and the community at large. All Souls Chapel is used for occasional services, as a place for devotions, of vigil and meditation during Holy Week, and for the annual All Souls Service celebration which includes those inurned in the Columbarium. The window in the Columbarium, dedicated as All Souls Chapel on Good Friday 1992 by Bishop Walter Asbil, came from the former St Mark’s Church on Bay Street. It is titled “I am the Resurrection and the Life”, and was given in memory of Thomas David Walker (August 9 1829 – April 5 1900). OFFICE OF THE BISHOP OF NIAGARA Anglican Church of Canada May 13, 2020 TO THE PEOPLE OF CHRIST’S CHURCH CATHEDRAL, HAMILTON TO BE DISTRIBUTED AND ANNOUNCED ON FRIDAY, MAY 15, 2020 Dear Friends; I write to announce that the Reverend Canon Dr. Sharyn Hall has submitted her resignation as Assistant Priest at Christ’s Church Cathedral, and her intention to retire on August 31, 2020. Given this date, it is Sharyn’s hope that she will have an opportunity to spend some time with the community in person before her depar- ture. While I am pleased, for her sake, that Sharyn is now planning a well-deserved retirement, this news will be met with much sadness at the Cathedral. I ask that you support and encourage her in the days ahead. I know you will find an opportunity in the next while to wish Sharyn well and to thank her for her ministry at the Cathedral over the past number of years. I hope to be part of that celebration as well to express thanks to Sharyn for the wonderful ministry she has done here. I wish you all of God’s blessings in this time of transition. In the meantime, we continue to work thru the process for a new Dean and Rector of Christ’s Church Cathedral.
