Each year, FAO Schwarz offers six paid two-year Fellowships at high-impact nonprofit organizations in New York City, Boston and Philadelphia to recent graduates who have the potential to become future social impact leaders. These transformative Fellowship experiences combine direct service and special projects with professional development, mentoring and networking opportunities and help Fellows launch successful careers in the nonprofit sector. He notes that “Hanover Research is a full-service custom market research firm, head-quartered in Arlington, Virginia. Hanover operates in three main business lines: K-12, Higher Education, and Corporate. In each division there are entry-level openings that may be a good fit for many St. John’s graduates—namely, secondary research and qualitative research positions. Secondary Research positions leverage a skill many Johnnie’s already have, through the work-flow of preparing for class and writing essays at St. John’s—the ability to read a variety of text sources in a short timeframe, and concisely synthesize them in a core narrative. Qualitative Research positions leverage many of the skills developed through St. John’s classroom experiences—guiding meaningful dialogues through thoughtful questioning to derive insightful answers.” Visit: http://careers.hanoverresearch.com/current-openings CALLING ALL BARISTAS - 1845 COFFEE NEEDS YOU Part-time Jobs at the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD The Naval Academy has a new coffee shop on the Yard - 1845 Coffee. They have shifts available from 6:00 am – 2:30 pm five days a week and 8:30 am – 5:30 pm on Saturdays. Other types of work are also available. The Naval Academy Business Services Division (NABSD) will contribute a $500 financial aid/tuition grant on behalf of a St. John’s employee participating in the NABSD-SJC program for completion of every 250 hours worked by the employee. The payment will be made payable to SJC to be applied to the student’s account. Volunteers For Peace Short- and Long-Term Volunteer Opportunities in Europe, Africa, Haiti, Asia, Latin America, U.S. and the Middle East VFP offers over 3,000 projects in more than 100 countries each year. The grassroots projects arise from the needs of the local community. VFP organizes, promotes and supports voluntary service opportunities in the USA and abroad as an effective means of intercultural education, service learning, and community development. VFP typically charges $500 to cover their many expenses and some host organizations have an additional fee which is identified in the camp listings. The fee covers accommodation, three meals a day, project leadership, work materials, visa support, and pre- departure support from VFP. Volunteers arrange and pay for their own transportation for the project. Visit: www.vfp.org 2 Teach Kentucky, Louisville, KY Teach Kentucky is an AmeriCorps-affiliated program based in Louisville, Kentucky. Their mission is to help college graduates launch teaching careers in urban, high-needs public schools in the district. The program is based on a cohort model, and members earn graduate degrees through the University of Louisville’s alternative certification Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program, while utilizing Teach Kentucky’s robust in-house training and support program in their first two years of teaching. Teach Kentucky also helps their cohort members navigate numerous internal and external scholarship opportunities to reduce the cost of the MAT to free or nearly free for most candidates. Application deadline: Rolling, apply as soon as possible to meet Praxis exam deadlines Visit: https://www.teachkentucky.com SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES & INTERNSHIPS American Enterprise Institute (AEI), Washington, DC Summer Honors Program, Fully-funded program The American Enterprise Institute’s Summer Honors Program is an intensive, fully-funded educational and professional development opportunity for top undergraduate students. The program gathers students from diverse ideological backgrounds for substantive dialogue and debate about the most pressing issues facing the country and world. The core feature of the program is discussion-based seminars that offer participants forums to delve deeply into policy areas of their choice. Outside of the seminars, students participate in policy briefings with distinguished guests, high-level networking events, and site visits in Washington. The Summer Honors Program offers 16 intensive one-week seminars and the Summer Honors Academy. Students may apply for one or both of these opportunities. Intensive One-Week Seminars: Admitted participants receive a $250 stipend, housing, most lunches and dinners during the week, and reimbursement for travel expenses. Summer Honors Academy: Ten students are chosen to participate in five different courses from May 27 – June 26, 2020. As a cohort, they will take a foundational course entitled “The Great Debate: The Roots of Right & Left” on May 28–29. Academy participants receive a $1,250 stipend, housing, most lunches and dinners during class days, and reimbursement for travel expenses. Open to: Current undergraduates and recent graduates (winter 2019 or later). Visit: https://www.aei.org/summer-honors-program 3 The Marchutz School of Art Aix-en-Provence, France Program dates: June 6-July 19, 2020 The Marchutz School offers artists a unique opportunity to live, learn and grow in the incomparable Provencal setting in Aix-en-Provence, France, during a six-week studio art summer program. Inspired by the crystal light of Provence and the guidance of Leo Marchutz, the School has evolved into a group of artists with similar artistic principles. Although diverse in their artistic endeavors, they stand unified in their persistent faith that the observation of the world around them can be a springboard to innovative, contemporary images that have substantive links to the art of the past. The program uses an interdisciplinary process that combines: the studio art discipline, liberal arts coursework, intensive aesthetics seminars, workshops, museum study, and painting excursions. No formal artistic experience or knowledge of the French language is necessary to participate in this program. SJC students will receive a discounted program fee if at least five students attend. Visit: https://en.iracambi.com/the-programs-at- iracambi/education-for-sustainability#IracambiStrong 4 Mount Vernon Leadership Fellows Program Mount Vernon, Mount Vernon, Virginia Program dates: May 23 – July 4, 2020 The Mount Vernon Leadership Fellows Program is a highly selective six-week summer institute for rising college juniors offering unparalleled learning and networking opportunities at the home of America’s
