This year marks the 16th edition of Art Basel’s Beach show, comprising 268 of the world’s leading galleries from 32 countries across five continents and featuring 20 first time exhibitors. Within an entirely new floorplan and show architecture – including more than 10 percent of added exhibition space – they present the world’s premier Modern and contemporary art, drawing together artists, collectors, curators, museum directors, and critics from across the globe. In the Galleries sector, 198 galleries present the highest quality of painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, video works, and photography. The Nova sector features strong juxtapositions and never-before-seen pieces fresh from the artist’s studio from 29 galleries. In the Positions sector, 14 galleries spotlight a single artist with one exciting project, allowing visitors to discover ambitious new talents from all over the globe. And the Edition sector presents 11 leaders in the field of prints and editioned works. Furthermore, the 2017 edition of Art Basel once again features the project-based sectors Kabinett, Survey, Public, and Film. Our daily Conversations series, presenting dynamic discussions exploring key issues in today’s artworld, is taking place this year in the Botanical Garden.
