Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club 2019-2020 Offshore Series Race Appendix: Cook Strait Classic Race The Organising Authority is the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club Incorporated (RPNYC) 103 Oriental Parade Wellington | PO Box 9674, Wellington | [email protected] 1 Rules 1.1 All yachts shall comply with Part II of the Yachting New Zealand (YNZ) Safety Regulation category 3 modified as follows. Yachts must carry: (a) a liferaft in accordance with safety regulation 17.11 or an appropriate alternative; (b) a storm jib in accordance with safety regulation 15.15(b); and (c) fire extinguishers in accordance with safety regulation 17.01. 2 Racing Area 2.1 Racing shall take place in Wellington Harbour, Cook Strait, and Queen Charlotte Sound. 3 Course 3.1 The course is: Start – Barrett Reef Buoy (S) – West Head (P) – Finish 3.2 All areas that are obstructions apply. 4 Areas that are Obstructions 4.1 The following shall be obstructions: (a) a line between Point Jerningham Light and the nearest point of land; (b) a line between the Steeple Rock Light and Steeple Rock; (c) a line between Thoms Rock and the nearest point of land. 5 Starts 5.1 The location of the starting lines for each is a line between the start box flagpole and the starting mark laid to the north of the clubhouse. If no mark is laid, the line is an extension of the line between the start box flagpole and the light on the outer end of the boat harbour entrance. Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club Inc 1 6 The Finish 6.1 The finishing line is a line between the lower house located in Thoms Bay and the outer rock in the White Rocks group which is between Jacksons Bay and Te Awaiti Bay located on the northern sider of Tory Channel, approximately NW of Thoms Bay. 6.2 Boats must record their own finishing time using GPS as the time source. If the Race Committee records a finishing time for the boat, then the Race Committee’s time will be used. 7 Radio Scheds 7.1 No scheds are required. 7.2 Any boat that has not finished by 2000 hrs on 14 December 2019 must immediately lodge a trip report with Maritime Radio on VHF Channel 16. 8 GPS Tracking System 8.1 Each yacht is expected use the PredictWind Tracking System.
