    Lo chiamano “stile americano” , prendere una cosa qualsiasi di mediocri possibilità , abbellirla e gonfiarla con un contorno ed una propaganda impeccabili e presentarla al mercato discografico o cinematografico come il grande evento dell'anno. Gli americani sono fenomenali in questo. Così è avvenuto il 31 luglio 1992 quando è uscito nelle sale il film di Buffy: presentato come il grande evento cinematografico dell'anno , esaltato da un trailer di attori emergenti e da una colonna sonora mozzafiato per l'epoca. Un bidone clamoroso … ma in perfetto stile americano !!! Dopo il successo del telefilm , pochi hanno ancora voglia di andarsi a riguardare il film “Buffy the vampire slayer” del 1992 : è totalmente inadeguato e in contraddizione a quanto abbiamo imparato ad amare nel telefilm. La colonna sonora , invece , anche a distanza di anni è un disco che merita di essere ascoltato a ripetizione. Nomi eccellenti , sprecati per un film di così basso livello , chicche rare inseguite per anni dai collezionisti. Ce n'è per tutti i gusti : dall'heavy metal di gruppi radiofonicamente vincenti come i Cult o il neo solista Rob Halford (appena uscito dai Judas Priest) al rap grintoso degli allora emergenti C&C Music Factory ; dalle ballate classiche di Susanna Hoffs (che da noi è una sconosciuta o quasi mentre negli States era all'epoca una star internazionale) a cover più o meno riuscite come quella di Mary's Danish. Tutto l'album merita almeno un passaggio. E la tipica chicca finale americana non manca con la rarità imperdibile di “Party with the animals” dell'immortale Ozzy Osbourne mai inserita in nessun album ufficiale del cantante fino alla ristampa di “No more tears” di 10 anni dopo.

COCHRAN Under the Direction of Lynée Lewis Gaillet ABSTRACT Individuals who consider themselves both scholars and fans represent not only a subculture of fandom but also a subculture of academia. These liminal figures seem suspicious to many of their colleagues, yet they are particularly positioned not only to be conduits to engaged learning for students but also to transform the academy by chipping away at the stereotypes that support the symbolic walls of the Ivory Tower. Because they are growing in number and gaining influence in academia, the scholar-fans of the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Buffy) and other texts by creator Joss Whedon are one focus of this dissertation. Though Buffy academics or Whedon scholars are not the only ones of their kind (e.g., academic- fan communities have cropped up around The Simpsons, The Matrix Trilogy, and the Harry Potter franchise), they have produced more literature and are more organized than any other academic-fan community.
