Indiana Universitypurdue University Indianapolis Iupui Faculty Council Resolution of Congratulations in Recognition INDIANA UNIVERSITY­PURDUE UNIVERSITY INDIANAPOLIS IUPUI FACULTY COUNCIL RESOLUTION OF CONGRATULATIONS IN RECOGNITION OF THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF COACH RON HUNTER AND THE IUPUI MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM DURING THE 2002­2003 SEASON PROCLAMATION AND RESOLUTION To All To Whom These Presents May Come, Greetings: Whereas: It is the dream and goal of basketball coaches, players and their fans everywhere to reach the NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament and its field of 64; and Whereas IUPUI became eligible to pursue this dream only five years ago in 1998 when it began its first season at the Division I level of the NCAA; and Whereas: Coach Ron Hunter rejected the naysayers, came to IUPUI in 1994 and began his passionate quest to achieve this goal by becoming the winningest first­year coach in IUPUI history; and Whereas: Coach Ron Hunter has the highest career winning percentage of any basketball coach in school history and is the only IUPUI basketball coach to defeat both a Big Ten (Northwestern) and an ACC (Georgia Tech) opponent; and Whereas: Coach Ron Hunter was recognized as the 2002­2003 Mid­Continent Coach of the Year; and Whereas: Under the leadership of Coach Ron Hunter, a wonderful group of young men collectively known as the IUPUI Jaguars men’s basketball team defeated the Crusaders of Valparaiso and won the 2003 Mid­ Continent Conference Basketball Tournament, thereby achieving their goal to play in the NCAA basketball tournament for the first time in school history; and Whereas: The accomplishments of Coach Ron Hunter and his Cinderella team have added immeasurably to IUPUI’s institutional identity, bringing national and international attention to IUPUI the likes of which the school has never before enjoyed; and Whereas: Coach Ron Hunter and his team have achieved the greater goal of making IUPUI faculty, students, staff, and alumni proud to be part of the IUPUI community; and Whereas: The enthusiasm and commitment of Coach Ron Hunter have been an inspiration not only to his players but to all who know him Be it therefore resolved that on this day, May 1, 2003, the IUPUI Faculty Council congratulates and applauds Coach Ron Hunter and his team for their accomplishments and the honor they bring to IUPUI and That this resolution be disseminated to all pertinent parties. .
