It is specifically designed to provide consistency of learning, should any students find their learning interrupted. Due to the nature of the format – some deviations have been made from the EM Lesson ppts. These have been made of necessity and for clarity.

DEFINITION: The subject of a sentence is who or what is doing the main action.

Exercise 1 - Underline the subject in these sentences. Circle the main verb. Main verbs tell what the subject was doing. 1. Tim threw the paper in the bin.

Error Correction

Although Orwell presents Boxer as a stupid animal, the reader is also sympathetic towards him. They want him to succeed even though they know that he is wrong to trust

Napoleon. Orwell shows that Boxer cannot learn the alphabet past “d” can’t remember anything and doesn’t l isten to Benjamin when he is being warned about the pigs. Whilst Boxer may be stupid. He does have some moments of clarity. This is demonstrated when he says “Then we have won back what we had before. He recognises that the war was pointless.

Do Now:

Error Correction

After he had sent Anne of Cleves to Kent, King Henry refused to speak to anybody. He was furious that she had not given him a son. He was now an old man. Throughout the winter autumn and spring Henry moped.

Just as everyone was about to give up hope Henry fell in love with a woman called

Catherine Howard. They spent all of their time together.

During breakfast lunch and dinner Henry sat next to her and gave her fine food and good wine. He married her in 1540.

Because she was very young and pretty. Catherine got lots of attention from other men. King Henry was so jealous that h e had her executed, after less than two years of marriage.

Error Correction

When he was younger Henry was a very athletic young man. He enjoyed sport and often played dangerous games. When he went jousting hunting and horse riding he was energetic and happy. The best times of his l ife were spent in the forest.

Back at the palace he had an accident when he was jousting in a competition.

He wounded his leg and fell off his horse. Many people thought he was going to die, but he survived.

During February March and April he was forced to stay in bed. He applied a mixture of mashed worms the bone marrow of a pig and the hair from a black cat to the wound every day. He was very bad tempered, whilst he was ill .

Eventually Henry got sl ightly better. His bruises and broken bones healed.

On his leg the wound still festered. Years later, he had still not recovered.

Error Correction

King Henry’s final wife was called Catherine Parr. She was about the same age as him. She was very kind and spent a lot of time looking after the sick old king.

Catherine Parr was incredibly intelligent. She spoke French Latin and I talian. Because she was interested in religion. She wrote a book about how to be a good Christian. I t was called ‘Lamentations of a

Sinner’.

When King Henry was away fighting battles she ruled in his place.

When someone ruled a country for a monarch, they was called a regent. Queen

Catherine was a regent for nearly a year. I f Henry had been killed she would have ruled until his children were old enough to do so. Until the king returned she was in complete control of the country.

King Henry died in 1547. In order to let the new King Edward rule from London without her. Catherine decided to l ive in the countryside.

Anne Brontë was born on 17th of January 1820. She was taught by her eldest sister, at school. After she had finished her education she became a governess at blake hall for the Ingham family, they were horrible to her. Their children were very badly behaved, and Anne was very unhappy. Her second job was as a governess for a family, in york. Initially the children were as badly behaved as the ones in her previous family but this soon changed. She was very happy and became friends with the family. Even though she loved working there, she had to leave when the children growed up.

Lesson 16 Do Now: Fix the temporal clauses, subordinate clauses and speech. After the storm had passed we took time to assess the damage. It had been quite scary even though we had stayed indoors. When the storm first began we thought that it probably wouldn’t be that bad. As time went on we began to think about food supplies. We had collected emergency food in the shed some time ago.

My father said our only option is to run out in the garden, grab some tins and run back indoors.

Everybody said no it is too dangerous. After a while the storm calmed and we could go outside see which trees had fallen and grab a bite to eat.

The final day of primary school is such an exciting time, it feels like the end of an era and the start of something new. Theres no lake at Camp Green Lake. There once is a very large Lake here. That was over a hundred years ago. Now, it is just a dry, flat wasteland. There used to be a town of Green Lake as well, the town shrivelled and dried up along with the lake.

During the summer, the daytime temperature hovers around ninety-five degrees in the shade if you can find any shade. Not much shade in a big dry lake. The only trees is two old oaks on the eastern edge of the dried out lake. A hammock is stretched between the two trees and a log cabin stands behind that. Error Correction

Grammar exercises make you really think about how language works. Because I think I know the rules I don’t always check my work. Even though my teacher mark’s my grammar mistakes there is always a little voice inside me that thinks that it is really the teacher who has made the mistake. He work’s hard and look’s like he stay’s up too late, I would not be surprised if he made mistakes sometimes. Whenever he call’s me to talk to him at the end of the lesson he ask me if I check my work before handing it in. The essay sits there between us on the desk, it is covered in the teacher’s pen marks.

Because he asked me to go through my entire exercise book and label my mistakes with the reason why they are wrong I know that I will not be able to go to my friend’s house after school. Even though I feel angry I still do the work. Each mistake on the capital letter rule the apostrophe rule and putting an ‘s’ on the 3rd person of the present tense is a big wake-up call.

Even when Oliver Twist leaves the workhouse, the reader knows that his life won’t be any better with Mr. Sowerberry, the undertaker. Oliver’s already been through a lot of hardship in the workhouse, where he wasn’t fed properly and was made to do hard work. Oliver hopes that life outside the workhouse will be better for him. He’s wrong, though. As soon as Oliver arrives, he is shown where he’ll be sleeping. Mrs. Sowerberry says, “You don’t mind sleeping among the coffins, do you?” Oliver is about to find out that his situation is going to turn from bad to worse. At least in the workhouse he was allowed to sleep in a bed. Now, living with the undertaker, Oliver has to spend his nights in the bare coffins that have been prepared for the dead people soon to enter them. We might suspect you have something to hide.” It is true that Nancy knows about all of Bill’s crimes, however she is more interested in Oliver’s safety. Lord Hellebore laughed into James face and his hot breath, which smelt sour and sulphurous, blasted him, almost making him choke. James was reminded of a time when he had been to London Zoo and, standing too close to a lions cage, the great beast had roared right at him. Exercise 2

Yesterdays Maths lesson was one of the more dramatic lessons I have been in. Once my class had taken out their books, I looked over to ensure the students desks were in order. The class atmosphere was one of orderly calm.

However, as soon as the students had got started on their writing, a bee flew into the room. I am allergic to bee stings, so I instinctively ducked under my desk. I was not the only one. As it zoomed past each student, the bee left a trail of chaos behind it. The desks contents flew everywhere whilst students frantically ducked for cover, chairs legs were thrust into the air to form makeshift shields and the students screams ripped through the air.

Error Correction The town of Castleford stands today as its stood for six hundred years, on a high block of granite amidst a small forest woodland the houses of Castleford are square and old, built of grey stone, with dark slate roofs and high chimneys. Taking advantage of every inch of space on the rock, the houses lean into each other, one built upon the next, with here and there a bush or tree growing out of the side of a building.

Their is one road from Castleford, a winding track rising sharply up from the forest, where it is lined with rocks and small stone’s. Followed far enough south, out of the forest, the track becomes a real road, paved with asphalt. Followed further, the road gets larger, is packed at all hours with cars and lorries who’s owners are rushing from city to city. Eventually the road take’s you to London, but London is a whole night’s drive from Castleford.

i arrived from Hong Kong part way through year 8, and even then, when we were all still the little girls, she was already famous throughout Deepdean School she rode horses, was part of the lacrosse team and was a member of the Drama Society. The big girls took notice of her and by May the entire school knew that the Head Girl herself had called Daisy a ‘good sport’.

But thats’ only the outside of Daisy, the jolly part that everyone sees. The inside of her is not jolly at all.

It took me quite a while to discover that.
