Eagles: Molt Més Que Hotel California It's only rock & roll | Pep Saña | Actualitzat el 03/07/2019 a les 13:45 Eagles: Molt més que Hotel California Eagles és una banda que és història del Rock amb majúscules, formada a Los Angeles, Califòrnia. L'any 1971, l'estrella de Folk Rock i Country Rock, Linda Ronstadt i el seu mànager van contractar com a músics d'estudi a Don Henley i Glenn Frey per la gira de l'estiu de 1971 i la gravació del disc de Linda, al mateix temps Henley i Frey van decidir crear la seva pròpia banda, convidant als músics Bernie Leadon de The Flying Burrito Brothers (guitarra) i Randy Meisner (baix). La seva música és una barreja de Country i Rock Clàssic amb un marcat accent en els arranjaments musicals i el seu particular estil els va portar a ser una de les bandes de mes èxit, venent milions de discos a tot el món sobretot als Estats Units (destacar que només el seu disc, Hotel Califòrnia (1976), porta venuts a dia d'avui 32 milions de còpies). Tenen la particularitat que les cançons les interpreten els diferents membres de la banda, en la seva majoria s'alternen Glenn Frey i Don Henley però també interpreten excel?lents clàssics Randy Meisner, Joe Walsh i Timothy B.Schmit, destaca un dels millors temes de tots els temps, Hotel Califòrnia, però tota la seva discografia, és de gran qualitat. Es van separar al 1980, començant les seves carreres en solitari i catorze anys després de la desintegració es van tornar a reunir per una gira i un disc, Hell Freezes Over (1994). https://www.naciodigital.cat/bergueda/noticia/17335/eagles-molt-mes-hotel-california Pagina 1 de 14 Eagles (1972) Eagles, així tal qual, és l'àlbum de debut d'una de les bandes amb més milions de discos venuts de la història tot i que molt concentrats als Estats Units. Són coneguts evidentment a tot el món però el prestigi i les xifres als Estats Units no és comparable amb les de la resta del món. La formació inicial de la banda va ser amb Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Randy Meisner i Bernie Leadon, amb la particularitat de que tots canten i aporten la seva creativitat a la composició dels temes de l'àlbum. Amb un estil Country Rock clàssic i harmonies vocals més properes al Folk, obren amb el seu primer single, Take It Easy, tema escrit per Glenn Frey i el seu amic Jackson Browne (curiosament eren veïns i en aquell moment tots dos compartien a David Geffen de mànager), al que cal afegir dos temes de molt d'èxit, els singles Witchy Woman i Peaceful Easy Feeling. La resta del disc no baixa el pistó, amb cançons com Most Of Us Are Sad o Take The Devil. Un bon disc per començar, el primer d'una llarga i brillant carrera. Tot i que hi ha guitarres elèctriques, com en el tema Out Of Control, predominen les acústiques i les harmonies vocals. L'anècdota és que el tema Desperado que dóna títol a l'àlbum i és un dels èxits més coneguts dels Eagles, mai va ser editat com a single. Els singles de l'àlbum van ser, el Hit, Tequila Sunrise i Outlaw Man. D'una banda decideixen que volen tenir un so més dur, sonar més com una banda de Rock deixant una mica de banda el seu Country Folk. Per a això la primera decisió és deixar de treballar amb el seu actual productor Glyn Johns que es resistia a aquest canvi i els intentava convèncer de que no eren una banda de Rock, "The Who són una banda de Rock, vosaltres no". Això també va suposar deixar de gravar a Londres i tornar a situar el seu centre d'operacions a Califòrnia. El productor escollit per substituir- lo va ser Bill Szymczyk. L'altre canvi important va ser la incorporació com a tercer guitarra de Don Felder per tocar a l'estil Slide a la cançó Good Day In Hell i en el tema Already Gone en el que fa un duet de guitarra amb Glenn Frey. L'endemà ja el trucaven per unir-se a la banda, convertint-se en el cinquè Eagle, buscant amb això la idea d'aconseguir un so més roquer, canviant el seu estil Country Folk, a un estil més Rock. El resultat és un disc magnífic però amb un so no tan contundent com calia esperar. De fet encara hi ha un tema purament Country com Midnight Flyer on el protagonista principal és el banjo de Bernie Leadon tot i que és cert que en cançons com Already Gone o Good Day In Hell sonen més durs del que ho havien fet fins aquell momento. Destaquen també, l'homenatge al desaparegut Gram Parsons, amic i company de la banda Flying Burrito Brothers i del Rolling Stone Keith Richards amb el tema My Man, la versió de Tom Waits del tema Ol' 55 i un dels singles d'èxit del disc com va ser The Best Of My Love. El que no canvia són les seves harmonies vocals a la majoria de cançons. On The Border (1974) es va convertir en el primer àlbum número 1 de Eagles al Billboard, un disc rodó, un dels imprescindibles de la seva discografía. En gran part, el disc va triomfar comercialment gràcies a l'elecció dels singles, One Of These Nights, el guanyador d'un Grammy, Lyin' Eyes i Take It To The Limit, aquest últim, famós per l'aportació de la veu del baixista Randy Meisner al setlist de la banda fins al punt que la pressió que sentia d'haver de cantar-la sempre i donar aquesta nota tan aguda al final va acabar contribuint al fet que un any desprès acabés deixant Eagles. One Of These Nights (1975) és un disc fonamental en la seva carrera, un dels de més èxit, particularment però no em sembla un dels millors àlbums de la seva discografia. En aquest moment però, els conflictes interns s'havien intensificat, entre el llançament de l'àlbum One Of These Nights i la gira, el guitarra Bernie Leadon abandona la banda, amb la incorporació de Don Felder el paper de Bernie Leadon havia baixat de manera significativa. Joe Walsh, un solista i guitarrista prou reconegut en aquell temps, creador del mític tema, Rocky Mountain Way, es va unir a la banda al 1976 després de la sortida de Bernie Leadon, aportant un so molt més roquer i desenfadat, cosa que Frey i Henley buscaven feia temps. El 7 de maig de 1977 arribava al més alt de la llista d'èxits dels Estats Units una de les cançons més reconegudes i identificables de la història de la música popular global, Hotel California, dels Eagles. Tot i que avui dia pugui resultar sorprenent, donat el nivell que té l'èxit del tema inclòs al disc del mateix nom, no va ser un èxit instantani. De fet, ni tan sols va ser el primer single del disc. En els anys 70, les cançons que sonaven a les emissores musicals havien de tenir entre 3 i 3.30 minuts de durada i la introducció havia de durar com a màxim 30 segons abans que comencessin a cantar. Hotel California, dura sis minuts i mig, la introducció dura cinquanta segons i el solo de guitarres final dura dos minuts. El format del tema Hotel California era completament contrari als cànons radiofònics de l'època. Finalment, Hotel California va ser el segon single de l'àlbum, després de New Kid In Town. Tots dos aconseguirien arribar al número 1 del Billboard a diferència del tercer i últim single, Life In The Fast Lane. La seva aurèola melancòlica i misteriosa, (fins i tot per les persones que no entenen l'anglès, els resulta innegable la càrrega d'emotivitat que arrosseguen les seves notes i el misteri profund que s'amaga a la seva lletra), a més del seu excepcional solo de guitarra que van fascinar al públic.
