Original Music Brendan O'Brien & Tony Durant Co-composer Brendan O'Brien: O'Brien shouldn't be confused with US record producer Brendan O'Brien, who had an extensive career in the United States. Instead, like his co-composer, O'Brien has been a songwriter and jingle producer, as well as a keyboard player. In the 1980s, he was busy in the Perth pub scene and was a member of the bands The Fingerprints and Cats Crafty. At time of writing, there was a 47'23" interview with O'Brien on YouTube here which goes into great detail regarding his career and thoughts on the industry, and which also mentions his time working with Durant. It was via Cats Crafty that O'Brien moved to Sydney and met up with Durant, and then via Durant, O'Brien hooked up with his later wife Lisa Hill. O'Brien recalls that he spent the best part of two decades in Sydney after signing with PolyGram, and he also discusses his time working as a jingles writer and producer. There's a short CV for O'Brien at the One Big Voice site here: Brendan O’Brien is one of Australia’s foremost music and audio professionals. Achieving early prominence as a member one of Perth’s most popular ever bands, The Fingerprints, Brendan went on to live and work in Sydney as well as spending extended periods in the USA. In 2010 Brendan won the award for Best Achievement In Sound for an Australian Short Film at Flickerfest for the Oscar short-listed animated film Zero (12 million+ views). He was also nominated for a Screen Sound Guild Award that year. A second Guild nomination came in 2012 for The Maker. He recently composed the soundtrack to an episode of the Foxtel series Who We Are entitled Brand New Clan. In the mid-90s Brendan travelled regularly to the USA to work with cult songwriter Richard Davies including a national tour with the Flaming Lips. He has worked with Delta Goodrem, Russell Crowe, Lior, Deni Hines, Bardot, Disco Montego feat. Katie Underwood (‘Beautiful’ – ARIA Top 5) and many more. (Below: O'Brien on the One Big Voice site, and then in his YouTube interview) Co-composer Tony Durant: Durant had a LinkIn listing here (subscription required), which provided these brief details of his career: Writing songs , jingles, music for films/theatre and docos. Experience Professional Musician Self-employed Apr 1967 - Present 53 years 11 months Education Dover college There is an extended interview with Durant, mainly concerning his early days and the album Fuscia (here, WM here), but also tracking his later career with Dave Warner's band, and his return to prog rock/folk sounds with a reprise of the sort of sounds first heard on Fuscia. The interview doesn't go into his work composing for dramas and documentaries, but it does provide an extensive look at his career, and as it has been saved to WM, there is no point replicating it here. Googling Durant's name will turn up a number of other references to a long career in music.
