For this reason the cover of the catalogue for the “Pride of Poland – Janów IPodlaski Auction 2018” and “Summer Arabian Horse Sale 2018” is a reference to our national colours. The history of Polish Arabian horse breeding is closely linked to the turbulent history of our country. Repeatedly destroyed by the turmoil of war, always diligently rebuilt, each time surpassing the achievements of the previous era. Recent years have brought many successes to Polish breeding worldwide, which confirms that the Polish Arabian horse breeding program, based on a 250 year tradition of nurturing this breed on Polish lands, is in full bloom. Over the last seven decades the State Studs, under the care of the Polish State, have become a model of exemplary carried out breeding work. It was the horses from the State Studs that allowed private breeding to be restored in Poland and which today represents a world-class level. The Polish Arabian horse fulfils the dreams of its breeders: brave and beautiful, strong and ambitious. The mares exude magical femininity, maternal subtleness and exotic beauty. The power and success of the Polish breeding program has been built on the experience and knowledge passed on from generation to generation and which remains our cultural heritage. BLOODLINE © www.tuttoarabi.com RUSSIA ARABIAN HORSES AND THE CAVALRY Many Russian breeders in the 1700s and 1800s had the necessary expertise and huge resources to use the Arabian horse as a foundation for the creation of many breeds. In fact, the Arabian heralded in a new era for these astute breeders. They utilised these wonderful animals to increase the endurance, movement, working ability, soundness, and thriftiness, as well as beauty of their native stock. It was noted the Arabian had the amazing ability to transmit these outstanding characteristics onto their descendants for several generations. In fact, the Arabian had a phenomenal effect on Russia’s horse breeding activities. The Orlov Trotter (and Orlov Riding Horse) is one of Russia’s most famous breeds and was founded by the Arabian stallions Smetanka and Saltan I. The grey Smetanka, reputed to be a magnificent horse, was purchased by Count Alexis Orlov-Chesmenskii from a Turkish pasha in 1774. Smetanka travelled to Count Orlov’s Khrenovoya Stud in Russia with a military escort, the journey taking two years to complete. Smetanka only stood at stud in 1777 and was crossed with a Danish mare to start the foundation of the Orlov Trotter breed. The chestnut stallion Saltan I came to Russia from Arabia in 1775 and died in 1776, leaving three sons (confusingly named Saltan) and one daughter to carry on his influence as co-founder of the Orlov Trotter. Count Orlov also imported many other horses of Oriental blood to Artwork by Karen Hodges. his Khrenovoya Stud. The characteristics of the Orlov Trotter appeared to mirror in many respects the excellent features found in their Arabian ancestors.

To understand and therefore appreciate the phenomenon of Justify, one must carefully consider the larger-than-life forces that have come together to create not only the stallion himself, but also his wildly successful progeny. As any student of noteworthy subjects knows, the best way to understand is to start at the beginning ... When one evaluates the uppermost portion of Justify’s pedigree, the foundation for the stallion’s success as both a show horse and sire becomes immediately apparent. There are no less than six generations of sires producing sires. First comes Justify’s dad, Magnum Psyche, and then his sire, Padrons Psyche, inarguably two of the most successful sires in breed history of both breeding and performance horses. Then, of course, there is the legendary *Padron, whose charisma and exotic beauty established new trends for the breed when he danced into the lives of Arabian enthusiasts some three decades ago. Another generation back, *Padron’s sire is Patron, a stallion coveted by American breeders for his beauty and prepotency. Then we travel back again in time to the Tersk Stud’s foundation stallion, Aswan, and to his sire, Nazeer, thought by many to have been Egypt’s most influential and valuable breeding stallion. Each of these stallions is revered not only for who they were as individuals, but also for what they were able to pass on to the next generation of breeding stallions. In each case, the most important of those attributes was extreme Arabian type. Justify continues in that tradition -- passing on some of the best qualities from each of his generations.
