The Bairdmore Advisory Council applied to the Government of Manitoba Community Places Grant; unfortunately, due to the large volume of requests, the government did not fund our project. We did receive and submit nine letters of support from the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg, Manitoba Islamic Association, Right at School, South Winnipeg Community Centre, Winnipeg Scouts, Bairdmore Elementary School, City Councillor Janice Lukes, MLA for St. Norbert Jon Reyes, MLA for Fort Richmond Sarah Guillemard, MP for Winnipeg South Terry Duguid. With fewer parks and play areas, the Bairdmore Elementary School attracts kids and families from the wider Richmond West and Waverley West communities. We anticipate the Embracing Play through Accessible Green Spaces project will attract well over 100,000 people. Currently, the school has approximately 94,000 visitors: • 400 students x 193 days = 77,200 • 360 visits/week for 40 weeks of indoor scheduling (City of Wpg, YMCA, Community Centre, Hangfeng Chinese choir; assuming 20 people per event @ 18 events per week) = 14,400 • 200 visits/week for 12 weeks of outdoor scheduling (South Winnipeg Community Centre soccer and baseball; assuming 20 people per event @ 10 events per week) = 2,400 • Total = 94,000 COMMUNITY CONSULTATION, IF APPLICABLE (SURVEYS, OPEN HOUSES, ETC.) Walking school bus like other schools have for parents who may need extra help getting their kids to school. 6/14/2015 2:15 PM 2. 10 outdoor classroom additions ie canoe in ground, logs to play on etc 6/11/2015 1:04 PM 3. My 3 kids always complain about not been allowed to play on the structure. The space is there but the structure is not sufficient and not challenging enough. Please give priority to our kids physical play ability. Thank you. 6/11/2015 12:22 PM 4. How about a walking school bus? A coodinator to walk kids home from school.6/11/2015 5:34 AM Page 13 of 18 CITY OF WINNIPEG STAFF INVOLVED IN PROJECT TO DATE • City Councillor Janice Lukes SCOPE OF WORK • Native Trees: A total of five trees. Enclosed cost estimate from Nursery recommends Ash Green and American Linden tree, but the Bairdmore Advisory Council is open to replacing the Green Ash with another tree species (as per City of Winnipeg suggestion to avoid the Ash due to the Emerald Ash Borer) • Berm: Raised bank or hill • Climbing Net and surrounding foundation: ‘Lunar Blast’ climbing net supplied by Playgrounds-R-Us. The Bairdmore Advisory Council will explore some accessible options, such as an accessible path leading to the climbing net. Page 14 of 18 COST ESTIMATES/ QUOTES Page 15 of 18 Page 16 of 18 .
