The owner and his employed drivers all work during the daytime and provision of a taxi service after midnight necessitates drivers having to get out of bed; which is very tiring and difficult to maintain in the long term. A gap in the relentless rain over the last 2 months allowed the opening ceremony of the fishing to go ahead at Morenish. 30 people attended the reception held at Loch Tay Highland Lodges on Monday 15th January. They were hosted by Rupert Barratt, the owner of the complex, Jo Barrie, the site manager and Duncan and Nadia who run the restaurant and who supplied the welcome bacon rolls, shortbread, tea, coffee and whisky. Ladd Fagerson of St Fillans church conducted the ceremony and gave the blessing, as he has done for the last 6 years. The pipes as usual were played by Roger Sharp. Ten completely refurbished boats were available for anglers. The high water level prevented the use of most of the pontoons which were under at least one and half feet, however that did not deter those going out and boats were launched instead from the beach. At Auchmore the high level of the loch meant the boats could not be launched so the opening ceremony took place in the Auchmore courtyard. German sausages, lager and whisky were, as is now traditional, donated by the German visitors and the Famous Grouse. Duncan McKinnon played the pipes and the boats, still on trailers, were blessed by Rev. Lincoln, before being driven round to Morenish to launch. Two salmon were caught on the first day - by Bill Hill of Killin and Pete Gottgens of the Ardeonaig Hotel. Pete’s guests were treated to a taste of his catch. GA & MM

31 Killin Craft Fair

Elizabeth Murphy has long considered the promotion and sale of local crafts. Her shop Corrie Crafts was set up with that in mind but did not quite work out as intended. After it closed Elizabeth was approached by many former customers and locals involved in the arts and crafts and with the help of her contacts she set up this craft fair. While not at a busy time of year for visitors, it was a success and Elizabeth donated the profits of £151 to the Killin Primary School hobbies fund. The participants have Elizabeth Murphy expressed their enthusiasm to be involved in further events and those who visited and enjoyed the event hope this will be repeated.
