Houston-born Rogers formed his first band while in high school in 1956—a doo-wop group called the Scholars—and has never stopped making music. He charted as a solo artist in the late ’50s with “That Crazy Feeling” and performed the song on American Bandstand, played stand-up bass in the jazz group the Bobby Doyle Three, and in 1966 became a member of the popular folk group, The New Christy Minstrels. The enduring Country Music Hall of Fame member and pop superstar has endeared music lovers around the globe with his amazing songs, heartfelt performances, distinctive voice, gift for storytelling and universal appeal, and in 2016, Rogers is embarking on what will be his final world tour with a show that will celebrate his musical legacy: The Gambler’s Last Deal. Rogers has played to millions of fans around the world, performing songs from his catalog of 24 Number One hits including “The Gambler,” “Lucille,” “Coward of the County,” “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town,” “Lady,” “Islands in the Stream,” “She Believes In Me,” “We’ve Got Tonight,” “Daytime Friends,” “Through The Years,” “You Decorated My Life,” and “Buy Me A Rose.” Rogers was the first country artist to consistently sell out arenas. Incredibly, he has charted a record within each of the last seven decades (’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, 2000s, 2010s). He has sold more than 120 million albums worldwide, making him one of the Top Ten Best Selling Male Solo Artists of All Time, according to the RIAA. Rogers has won many awards for his music and charity work, including three GRAMMY Awards, 19 American Music Awards, 11 People’s Choice Awards, eight Academy of Country Music Awards, six Country Music Association Awards (including the CMA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013) and the Artist of a Lifetime Award at the CMT Artists of the Year 2015 award show. Remaining a popular entertainer around the world, Rogers, still loves touring and recording new music. Even so, Rogers came to the conclusion that family is more important than touring at this stage in his career, once he’s played the final date of his last world tour. “I’ve been so lucky to have enjoyed such a long career and to have such amazing support from my fans and all who have helped me along the way, but there comes a time when I need to focus on spending time with my family. My life is about my wife and my 11-year-old twin boys right now. There are a lot of things I want to do together with them to create some special memories. I don’t have a bucket list of my own…I have a bucket list of things I want to do with them.” EXPRESS RANCHES SALES SCHEDULE August 19 & 20, 2016 March 2017 Annual Big Event Sale Annual Honor Roll Sale October 3, 2016 March 2017 Annual Fall Bull Sale Annual New Mexico Bull Sale, Newkirk, NM March 3, 2017 April 2017 Annual Spring Bull Sale Annual Grass Time Sale RANCH STAFF SALE CONSULTANTS Jarold Callahan, President ................................... Et Cetera Literary Magazine Huntington High School 2018-2019 Et Cetera Huntington High School’s Literary Magazine 2018-2019 Editor & Club President Julia Collins Treasurer & Vice President Rory Bocelli Cover Artist Joshua Silverstein Advisor Mrs. Dianna Cazzalino Dear Reader, Thank you so much for picking up our magazine. This year’s edition, is a bit melancholic for me, as I am graduating this June. I will definitely miss this club the most when I go off to college, but I am so glad to have spent most of my high school years a part of Et Cetera. This club has provided me with friends, inspiration, and something to look forward to every week. I think I’m brave in admitting this: I’m not totally sure what I want to study in college. It’s not gratifying when it seems like everyone around you knows what they want to do in life. It’s especially anxiety-inducing because I have felt that since I have ingrained myself in creative writing, that I must major in that in college. However, I have found throughout the year, that whatever I choose to do in the future, I still have my love for writing to lie back on. I will be satisfied with sharing my future works that I create in my free time between my friends and family. Anyways, not to distract you with my personal issues, I want to focus on our members. I might be biased in saying this, but I genuinely believe that our club has some of the most interesting, creative, and thought-provoking minds.

  • Wildwood” by Junot Diaz
“Wildwood” by Junot Diaz It’s never the changes we want that change everything. This is how it all starts: with your mother calling you into the bathroom. You will remember what you were doing at that precise moment for the rest of your life: you were reading “Watership Down” and the bucks and their does were making the dash for the raft and you didn’t want to stop reading, the book had to go back to your brother tomorrow, but then she called you again, louder, her I’m-not-fucking-around voice, and you mumbled irritably, Sí, señora. She is standing in front of the medicine-cabinet mirror, naked from the waist up, her bra slung about her hips like a torn sail, the scar on her back as vast and inconsolable as the sea. You want to return to your book, to pretend you didn’t hear her, but it is too late. Her eyes meet yours, the same big smoky eyes you will have in the future. Ven acá, she commands. She is frowning at something on one of her breasts. Your mother’s breasts are immensities. One of the wonders of the world. The only ones you’ve seen that are bigger are in nudie magazines or on really fat ladies. They’re forty-two triple Ds and the aureoles are as big as saucers and black as pitch and at their edges are fierce hairs that sometimes she plucks and sometimes she doesn’t. These breasts have always embarrassed you and when you walk in public with her you are conscious of them.
