Richmond, BC – She’s been called one of the finest song stylists in any genre … a singer who owns the patent on any song she sings. Tanya Tucker’s inimitable vocal styling and soulful performances have resulted in a string of hit albums and singles, garnered hundreds of honours and awards and made her a country music legend. Born in Seminole, Texas, Tucker started singing at talent contests as a young child after she and her family moved to Wilcox, Arizona. She was only thirteen when a Las Vegas songwriter introduced her to legendary record producer, Billy Sherrill who signed her to Columbia Records and recorded her first big hit song, “Delta Dawn.” She followed that with “Love’s the Answer” and “Jamestown Ferry” then came out of the chute with another mega-hit, “What’s Your Mama’s Name?” At the age of fifteen, she had a Country Music Association Award, a Grammy nomination, a Greatest Hits package in the works and her face on the cover of Rolling Stone.
The hits kept on coming throughout the 70’s and 80’s with “Lizzie and the Rainman,” “San Antonio Stroll,” “Don’t Believe My Heart Can Stand Another You,” “Texas When I Die,” “Pecos Promenade,” “Strong Enough to Bed,” “Down To My Last Teardrop,” “Two Sparrows in a Hurricane,” “It’s A Little Too Late” and “Tell Me About It” with Delbert McClinton. In 1991, she was named the Country Music Association’s “Female Vocalist of the Year” and the following year, she won Country Music Television’s “Female Video Artist of the Year” Award. Tucker has released two books: her autobiography, Nickel Dreams (1997) and 100 Ways to Beat the Blues on Fireside (2005). And just last year, she released her most recent album, My Turn last year … the album which features the single, “Love’s Gonna Live Here” – a remake of Buck Owen’s classic hit – placed #27 on the Billboard Country charts. Tanya Tucker still enjoys performing to sold-out audiences across North America and will be appearing at the River Rock Casino Resort in August.
