Trip. Ever.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E398NriZLVg Background: Jon Montgomery’s life has been a whirlwind since his Olympic win in skeleton, his big-time podium moment to get the gold medal, and his now-famous victory walk through Whistler Village. But he’s about more than just the frosty, golden beer that gave him instant folk- hero status with so many Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast. From an appearance on Oprah, to the overwhelming homecoming in Russell, Manitoba, and from appearing in his own adventure travel television show and a presentation at the Juno Awards, Jon has been sharing his Olympic success with as many Canadians as possible. Today, as the host of The Amazing Race Canada, he's been across the country and openly shares his perspective on what makes Canada great. Following an incredibly successful launch as the highest-rated broadcast debut in the history of Canadian-produced television, (averaging over 3-million viewers for each week), Season 2 is back on CTV with 11 teams travelling the world searching for the illusive tickets and the title of winner under the watchful eye of host, Jon Montgomery. Jon welcomes the opportunity to get together with youth and corporate audiences alike, maybe auction off something sentimental for your charity, or engage your employees with stories of a young guy from the prairies who did something incredible for our country and reminded us all that it’s all right to be proudly Canadian and celebrate the good times. That’s being Jon Montgomery. • What's on at the Heritage Centre: the Amazing Race Canada!
VOLUME 23 ISSUE 4 AUTUMN 2013 What’s on at the Heritage Centre: The Amazing Race Canada! Editor: The following article is an excerpt from the RCMP Heritage Centre Staff News Letter, regarding a remarkable accomplishment by all concerned: On Monday August 12, 2013 the RCMP Heritage Centre and “Depot” were featured in episode five of The Amazing Race Canada. “Death by Lentils”, as the episode was named, saw teams searching through truckloads of lentils in search of a small Sergeant Bull Moose key chain which gave them the location of their next clue, the RCMP Heritage Centre. Once on-site, teams were escorted to their next challenge by Heritage Centre staff (dressed in period costume) where Assistant Commissioner Roger Brown, Sergeant Major Tammy Patterson and Corporal Sean Chiddenton awaited. Their task? Set up a barrack room in Fort McLeod and pass inspection. Teams that thought it would be easy got a rude awakening. Rooms were tossed, tears were shed and there were a couple of touching moments; for instance when CO Brown thanked one contestant for his service and in returned was thanked for his service. For those of you who have not seen the episode, it is now available for free viewing at www.ctv.ca/TheAmazingRaceCanada. A HUGE thank you to everyone at “Depot” that helped us participate in this tremendous opportunity! 1 THE CANADA NOT-FOR-PROFIT CORPORATIONS ACT: An Important Message from the Board of Directors of The Friends of the Mounted Police Heritage Centre. The federal government recently revised the their position (since the inception of the Friends legislation governing the structure and conduct four positions on the board have been appointees of not-for-profit (NFP) corporations, including from the RCMP Veterans Association).

After years of hard work, training and perseverance, Montgomery won a gold medal in skeleton, securing his place in history as one of the best. His celebratory walk through Whistler showcased his passion, spirit, and sense of humour–traits that he brings to every platform, whether in front of a live audience or acting as the host ofThe Amazing Race Canada. [morelink] Topics Dreaming Big: Living Bigger While Jon Montgomery always wanted to be a Canadian National Team athlete, he didn’t know which sport it would be in! Keeping his eyes wide open, living outside his comfort zone, trying new things and accepting the challenges that presented themselves enabled him to find his passion and his opportunity to realize his dreams. Jon’s story inspires others to go after what they’re looking for, no matter how daunting a task it may at first seem. Innovation and Realism While we must be realistic about the things in life we can’t change, there are always ways in which we can optimize ourselves and our situations through creative thinking and innovation. Unless you’re moving forward you’re getting left behind! Jon's Olympic Journey The story of how a small town boy from Manitoba, who grew up playing hockey and idolizing his home town hero, Theo Fleury (the smallest guy to ever play in the NHL) inspired Jon Montgomery to become an Olympic Champion.
