Tonight’s Surprise Celebrity Auctioneers: Fred Butler and Leon Kos

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Welcome!

On behalf of the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah, it’s my pleasure to welcome you to our 33rd annual community benefit auction. Our motto is: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. We’re glad you can join us in advancing this mission.

We’re very pleased to have Eastside Domestic Violence Program as our fund-an-item recipient tonight and urge you to generously respond when asked to “raise your paddle” for this vital agency.

As we were planning our auction, our Community Services Committee met to discuss some additional grant requests that we had received. Reflecting on the projects, services and programs we had funded over the past year, I commented that Kiwanis in Issaquah is like the old Community Chest used to be in the small town in which I was raised: funds would be collected from the business community and used to fund community projects large and small - from Little League uniforms, to swimming lessons at the lake and band concerts at the park.

Our club is a lot like that. I am amazed at how far the $100,000 raised by Kiwanis last year went and how important these dollars are in making our community livable. Here are just a few examples of how your contributions were put to work this year: school supplies and calculators for school children; adaptive technology for clients of AtWork!; a lift to move patients at Marianwood, lighting for Eastside Master Chorus concerts; more free pony rides for the 4th of July celebration; environmental restoration projects; Concerts on the Green; support for the Relay for Life event; holiday gifts and food for families going through hard times; formula and diapers for infants; leadership training and college scholarships for our high school students; support for Cub Scouts; counseling through Friends of Youth; tutoring and reading programs for children; camperships; new life jackets for the Issaquah pool, and assistance to Tent City 4.

Thanks to your support, Kiwanis will be able to continue our good work for our children and our community for yet another year.

Please enjoy the evening. After all, the other motto of Kiwanis is, “We make noise; we have fun.”

Connie Fletcher President of the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah’s Community Auction & Dinner! Eastside Domestic Violence Program (EDVP) is honored to be the Kiwanis Fund-an-Item partner. Your support is truly an investment in the lives and health of thousands of families that live and work in our community.

We are here tonight to raise funds and celebrate the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah and Eastside Domestic Violence Program’s dedication and service. EDVP envisions a world in which every person lives in a safe environment, free from oppression and with the opportunity to thrive. Since 1982, EDVP has served more than 104,800 victims of domestic violence and their children living in our community.

Eastside Domestic Violence Program has grown to become one of State’s largest domestic violence service providers. Our critical work and mission is to end domestic violence. For every one person we shelter, 18 are turned away. You will have the opportunity this evening to lift your bid card high and raise funds in support of our life-saving programs and services. Please give generously and help us create A World of Hope to ensure that Eastside Domestic Violence Program will be there when families need us most!

There are an estimated 90,750 domestic violence incidents in King County each year. Child abuse occurs in approximately 70% of families experiencing domestic violence. Together we can make a difference!

In 2009, Eastside Domestic Violence Program:

 Answered 9,985 calls to our 24-Hour Crisis Line  Provided 33,130 bed nights of safe shelter  Provided services to 4,316 victims of domestic violence  Provided education and training to 25,231 members of our community

Thank you for joining Eastside Domestic Violence Program in our mission to end domestic violence in the community through premier life-saving and life-changing programs and services.

We are proud to partner with the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah. Tonight you have the power to play a vital role in our life saving services, change lives and give hope. Together we can make a difference. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Barbara Langdon Executive Director

Heads Or Tails Game – $10 to play

Everyone pays and everyone plays, but one lucky person will win a pre-determined grand prize! Here’s how to play:

• The emcee will ask that one person at each table become the “banker” and hold onto the envelope marked “HEADS OR TAILS”. The banker will then collect $10.00 from each person at the table. • After the money has been placed in each envelope, the bankers will bring the envelopes up to the emcee. After all the envelopes have been collected, the game begins. • Everyone who put money into the envelopes will be asked to stand. The emcee will have a coin in his/her hand. • Before the emcee flips the coin, those who are standing must decide if the coin will come up “heads” or “tails.” • Those who think the coin will come up “heads” must place their hands on their head. Those who believe the coin will come up “tails” must put their hands on their derriere! • When the guests have placed their hands appropriately, the emcee tosses the coin. • If the coin comes up “heads,” for example, those with their hands on their heads remain standing. Those who made the wrong choice must sit down; they are now out of the game. • The placing of hands and tossing of the coin continues until there are only a few people left standing. Those individuals will then be asked to go to the stage and continue playing until only one person is left standing. • The last person standing wins the game and the Apple iTouch. • In the event of a tie, the game must continue with the two remaining participants until one person finally wins or the participants decide to share the prize.
