2 Community Relations

The focus of the SaskGaming Community Relations department is to develop a high profile image through event sponsorship and charitable community investment.

SaskGaming makes an effort to be associated with high profile events that promote tourism and community pride. This positive image offsets potential negative public perception of the Crown’s involvement in gaming. When appropriate the corporation leverages the celebrity status of George Reed to increase awareness of Community Relations efforts.

SaskGaming places a priority on events and activities in the communities where it operates. Consistent with brand building, the corporation seeks recognition for its properties, Casinos Regina and .

SaskGaming also participates in philanthropic giving whereby a donation is made to a registered charity or non-profit organization with the corporation receiving little to no benefit/or exposure in return. An example of this philanthropic activity includes our Employee Match and Dollars for Do-Gooders Programs where donations are made to charities and organizations that employees support. The Scholarship Program and many of the Aboriginal partnerships also fall under this category.

The corporation places a priority on community support that will engage, support and ultimately benefit Aboriginal people of which is consistent with the province’s commitment for the corporation’s profit to be shared with the First Nations Trust and the Community Initiatives Fund.

SaskGaming’s Community Relations mission is to demonstrate good corporate citizenship and to employ best practices in the gaming industry for corporate social responsibility and community investment.

Strategies and Objectives

. Learn and leverage best sponsorship practices; The Community Relations team belongs to the Saskatchewan Community Investment Council. This council is made up of employees from all the Saskatchewan Crown Corporations. The Council meets once a month to discuss opportunities, challenges and trends in the sponsorship field.

22 . Support employee volunteerism by matching dollars raised through the Employee Match and Dollars for Do-Gooders programs;

In 2014, Community Relations donated $8,744 to local charities through the Employee Match and the Dollars for Do-Gooders Programs. Some of the charities that benefitted were: Salvation Army’s Adopt-A-Family, Regina Cat Rescue and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

. Leverage the celebrity status of George Reed through on-site public appearances, advertising and other activation initiatives;

In 2014, George Reed was highly visible in the community. George continues to be highlighted in our Win-Win community giving campaign. The Win-Win campaign is used as a source of recognition in almost all sponsorships/events or sources of advertisement that Community Relations receives as benefits through out the year. George also plays a major role in the public eye by attending events, cheque presentations or by bringing greetings or emceeing on behalf of SaskGaming. In 2014, George attended around 30 sponsored events, as well as numerous hosting opportunities.

. Efficiently allocate resources to achieve goals within annual approved budget; In order to achieve goals within the approved budget, Community Relations strategically planned the 2014 budget using the following tactics: - Sponsorship of strategic marketing events: this was used by looking at the type of events/organizations that were sponsored and if we could use them to drive guest traffic to the casino properties and ultimately raise our door count. - Promotion of employee programs: Community Relations created an advertising campaign directed at all employees that these programs were available and that all staff were encouraged to participate in helping with our community support through their own experiences. - Specific types of recognition through sponsored events: this was used by negotiating specific sponsorship benefits that would leave a lasting impression on the community and our guests around our community support. - Achieving our Aboriginal targets: during budget planning, Community Relations allocated 22% of our overall budget to Aboriginal sponsorships. This was accomplished through building strategic partnerships with Aboriginal organizations and events in previous years.

23 . Improve evaluation and measurement methods using sophisticated IT tools such as Sponsorium that will result in better corporate decision making; All sponsorship efforts and requests are streamlined through Sponsorium. This helps alleviate the workload for Community Relations to focus efforts on reviewing more in-depth evaluations and measurements methods to ensure all approved sponsorships are profitable and benefit SaskGaming. In 2014, Community Relations received over 300 requests asking for the support of SaskGaming.
