It is named after the great luminary and the son of the soil Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvarya. The VTU was established in 1994 by the Act of State Legislature: Visvesvaraya Technological University Act 1994 (VTU Act 1994) and started functioning from 1 st April 1998. This University has State vide jurisdiction. This University has been established for the purpose of ensuring proper and systematic instruction, Teaching training and Research in the development of Engineering, Technology and allied Sciences in the State of Karnataka. With this motto, University has been providing high quality education in the faculties of Engineering, Technology, Allied Sciences and Management through its departments as well as affiliated colleges. In each programme the University ensures the provision of high quality education, the pursuit of knowledge and the generation on new ideas. VTU provides ample opportunities to the student community who desire to acquire knowledge in Engineering/Technology by offering a wide range of programmes i.e.UG (B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch.) in 35 Disciplines, PG (M.Tech./M.Arch./MBA/MCA) in 94 disciplines respectively, PG diploma courses, Research programmes such as M.Sc. (Engg.) by Research and Ph.D. All these courses are as per the standards prescribed by the All India Council for Technical Education and University Grants Commission. Visvesvaraya Technological University is one of the prestigious and largest technological Universities in the country having affiliation of 220 Engineering colleges and five constituent engineering colleges at Davangere, Gangavati, Huvinhadagali, Raichur and Karwar. VTU is imparting technical education to more than 4 lakh students under its 35 Undergraduate & 94 Postgraduate Programs. Doctoral programs in 805 departments in 137 Colleges which have been recognized as research centers. Recognition of the VTU VTU has been Recognised by the following a. Karnataka State Govt. The key activities of the Academic section are affiliation of colleges, admission approvals, designing the Curriculum, developing policies, planning and executing the academic activities for UG, PG & Doctoral programmes. Examination Section The Examination Section of the University is headed by the Registrar (Evaluation). Three Special Officers are working in the Examination section under the Registrar (Evaluation). The examinations are conducted on semester basis. During Examinations conducted in July 2016 & January 2017 - approximately 2,81,656 & 2,90,520 students (including UG & PG) have taken examinations respectively. Theory and Practical Examinations were conducted smoothly with the best co-operation of the Principals & Staff of Engineering Colleges. The Examination Section is fully computerized delivering results in a record time with impeccable accuracy. Finance Section The 58 th & 59 th Finance Committee meetings of the University recommended for approval of Budget estimate for the year 2016-17 as under: Estimated Receipt 235.50 Crores Estimated Expenditure 277.33 Crores Accordingly, the Budget Estimate for 2016-17 as recommended the Finance Committee has been approved by 127 th Executive Council meeting. As against the anticipated Budget, books of accounts are recorded properly as per the accounting procedures of the Government. The abstract of the receipt & payments accounts of the University as on 31-03-2017 is as under: Receipt 199.45 Crores Expenditure 198.66 Crores The Revised Budget for 2016-17 was approved for Rs. 190.96 Crores under Receipts and for Rs. 157.73 Crores under Expenditure. Further, as against the estimated expenditures, University has incurred Rs. 198.66 Crores as total expenditure. Out of which Rs. 102.92 Crores is the Recurring expenditure and Rs. 95.74 Crores is the Expenditure incurred by the University on Various developmental activities. The un-audited statement of accounts of the University has been approved by the 64 th Finance Committee and 135 th Executive Council. Hence the audit of the accounts for the year 2016-17 has been conducted by the Adl. Director, Regional Office, State Accounts department, Belagavi from 06-02-2018 to 27-04-2018 and audit report for the same is awaited. National Service Scheme Advisory Committee meeting: Shri A. N. Pujar, Bangalore was the Chief Guest for Advisory Committee meeting. Dr. H. Maheshappa, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, VTU was the President of the meeting. Dr. A. G. Bujurke, N.S.S. Co-ordinator was organised the meeting. About 20 NSS Units with registration of 2000 Volunteers from various affiliated Engineering Colleges has been approved for the year 2016-17 and Budget for the year 2016-17 has also been approved in the meeting. The Government of Karnataka has sanctioned Rs.79,083 for Regular Activities for 20 Units with 2000 Volunteers. According to this, Rs.16,000/- as 1st instalment for Regular activities has been released to each NSS Unit for 20 Units and remaining grants of Rs. 4,800 as Out Pocket Allowance to the NSS Programme Officers will be released with a condition after submission of accounts settlements with original receipts and brief report for the year 2016-17. Sports Section 17 th VTU Inter Collegiate Youth Festival 2016: 17 th VTU Inter Collegiate Youth Festival 2016-17 has been organized at Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, Bengaluru during 16 th to 19 th March 2017. Where around 90 Engineering Colleges with 2300 Students (Men & Women) across the state of Karnataka, affiliated under VTU, were participated. Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. Karisidappa inaugurated the Youth Festival and Chief Guest Dr. M. H. Ambaresh, MLA, former Minister of Housing, Karnataka and Renowned Kannada Cine Actor, Smt. Vyjayanthi Kashi – Kuchipudi Dancer & Rajyotsava Awardee were the guest of honor. Dr. A. C. Chandrashekar Raju – President, Sri KET preside over the Inaugural function. Dr. H. N. Jagannatha Reddy, Registrar, VTU Belagavi, was
