COMPETITION GENERAL RULES

4

BPGC Competitions will be run under the rules of: The Royal and Ancient of (R&A), Golf, The Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs (LUGC), The Council of National Golf Unions (CONGU) – Unified Handicapping System and such Local Rules and Terms of the Competition as shall be approved by BPGC. In the case of entry by a golfer with a disability, he/she can apply to BPGC for adoption of the Modification of the Rules for golfers with disability. ELIGIBILITY

1. Competitions are open to fully paid up amateur members of BPGC.

2. Those entering Club competitions must have an official CONGU Handicap and to win or be placed in a competition that handicap must be ‘competitive’. It is the responsibility of the competitor to know his or her current exact handicap. If a members HOME CLUB is elsewhere: the competitor must hold a current Handicap Certificate and be prepared to show it to any competition official.

3. A qualifying handicap is denoted by a (c) against an individual’s name on the computer or master handicap list e.g. 10.3(c). Players with a non-competitive handicap may enter competitions but cannot win any of the prizes; however, they may enter and share any sweep prizes. They will pay the competition fee, as their entry into the competition is managed by the club. Their score will count towards gaining a ‘competitive’ handicap. SIGNING IN

4. The Committee will arrange for a Booking Sheet/Sign-In sheet to be made available to the Shop (either manual or electronic). Competitors will pay the appropriate entrance fee and the Sign-In/Booking Sheet will be annotated accordingly. In paying the entrance fee, the competitor agrees to all the competition conditions. Competitors must pay the appropriate competition fee in full but sweeps are optional.

5. If there is no draw for partners, then players should have cards marked by a fellow competitor. Where this is not possible, a Committee Member (included in this instance, are the Staff) should be approached, who may be able to appoint an ‘official marker’. In the unlikely event that one of the above officials is not available, a player may continue with a non-appointed marker.

6. All Medal and Stableford competitions are to be played in groups of no more than 3 competitors. However, during very busy periods (of mostly social golf), when the pace of play is generally accepted to be that of a 4-ball, a committee member (and in this case the pro shop staff are included), may authorise a group to play a stableford as a 4-ball.

7. Failure to comply with any of the conditions detailed above will result in the non-processing of the scorecard and exclusion from the competition. This non-processing will exclude the competitor from all prizes and sweeps, including 2s sweeps, and that score will not count in any Eclectic or Order of Merit competition. There will be no refunded fees

8. In the event of a competitor cancelling a pre-booked time on the day of the competition, or failing to turn up for the pre-booked tee time, the Committee will seek to recover the entry fee and competitors may be liable to suspension from further competitions as determined by the Committee. ALL MEMBERS SHOULD NOTE THAT all competitions booked through BRS will be locked down two days before the event. Any cancellations or amendments after this point will need to be made through the shop or office. SCORE CARDS – RECORDING OF SCORES

9. After completion of the round, the competitor should check his score card for each hole and settle any doubtful points with the Committee. For the purposes of BPGC competitions, ALL CARDS, whether completed or not, must be ‘posted’ in the Competition Box. Incomplete cards must be posted and marked NO RETURN. Each card should have the following information CLEARLY stated: Competitor’s Name, Competition Title, The Date, Competitor’s current Playing Handicap, Competitor’s Signature, Marker’s Signature and Gross Scores which must be clearly identifiable and for 5 Click to Return to Index

team competitions must clearly identify which gross score is to count for scoring purposes. Once ‘posted’, cards are considered ‘returned’ and therefore changes cannot be made.

10. To avoid possible disqualification, EVERY card must contain the following as an ‘absolute minimum’; Playing Handicap, Gross Scores (and only those required for the specific competition), signatures of Marker and Competitor.

The match committee or shop may provide labels showing name of player, date, current handicap and competition – for club ‘roll up’ competitions, players enter these details themselves. Either way, it is the player’s responsibility to check that these details are entered and are correct.

11. Competitors may also be liable to suspension from further competitions for continuously failing to return score cards. If a disqualified score is accepted for handicap purposes, the player will retain a place in the optional sweeps. MEDAL / STABLEFORD COMPETITIONS

12. DECISION ON TIES will be determined using the guidance set out in Appendix 1 (Clause 10) of the , supported by Appendix N of the CONGU Unified Handicapping System. In all handicap stroke play competition the winner will be determined on the basis of the best score for the last 9 holes of the course played*. If the tying players have the same score for the last 9 holes, determine the winner on the basis of the last 6 holes, then the last 3 holes and then the last hole. In handicap stroke play competitions the fractions of the applicable handicaps will be deducted from the gross scores for the applicable holes. In this context CONGU® directs that the exact fractions i.e. one-half, one-third, one- sixth etc. or commonly accepted decimal equivalents are deducted. The fractional or decimal allowances should not be rounded to a whole number.

13. In Stableford competitions, the winners are determined by the best Stableford score on the last 9 holes of the course played*, then the last 6, then the last 3, and then the last hole. Where a tie remains, handicap strokes should be taken as they were assigned for the competition, using the player’s respective stroke allocation table.

* Course Played: 1 to 18, then 10 to 18 is the last 9 holes. Played: 10 to 27, then 19 to 27 is the last 9 holes. Played 19 to 27, 1 to 9, then 1 to 9 is the last 9 holes.

14. In the event of a tie in a scratch stroke play competition, e.g. The Club Championship (gross), a sudden death play-off will be played to decide the winner from the 1st hole of the course played. HANDICAP ALLOWANCES – unless otherwise stated

15. Handicap allowances to be used are detailed below: MATCH PLAY

Singles Full difference between the handicaps of the players. Foursomes 1/2 difference between combined handicaps of each side Four-ball Back marker to concede strokes to the other 3 players (better ball) based on 90% of the difference between the full handicaps.

STROKE PLAY

PAR/BOGEY Click to Return to Index 6

Singles Full handicap Foursomes 1/2 combined handicap of partners Four-ball each partner receives 90% of full handicap (better ball)

STABLEFORD

Singles Full handicap Foursomes 1/2 combined handicap of partners Four-ball each partner receives 90% of full handicap (better ball)

TEXAS SCRAMBLES

15% of the combined team handicaps. The R&A does not recognise this format of golf. Therefore, the match committee has provided guidance or ‘rules’ below to members or visitors playing in a Texas scramble at Belton Park GC:

a. Whichever ball you choose to play, the owner of that ball should always play/putt first.

b. Place the ball on the fairway, within six inches of the marker. Drop in the rough unless the ball runs off a slope, in which case place it within six inches of the marker.

c. If a ball lands in a bunker and you choose that ball, place subsequent balls within six inches of the marker. Rake in-between bunker shots if necessary.

d. All players putt from the same place on the green where the original ball was putted from. ADDITIONAL SHOTS

16. ‘Additional Shots’ are calculated according to which course and are being used e.g. white for the men and red for the ladies. Also the Committee will take into account whether medal or stableford format is in operation.

USE OF MOBILE PHONES

17. Mobile phones (or any mobile media device), may not be used on the course during competition, by players, or spectators for making/sending or receiving calls or texts, except in cases of emergency and the mobile phone MUST be disabled/silenced. The important thing to remember is that should a mobile phone be used as a Distance Measuring Device it must only be used to access permitted information. Because of problems over whether a particular mobile phone conforms to the R&A and USGA rulings, and therefore, to protect players from the risk of disqualification under ‘Rule 14-3’, Belton Club strongly recommends that mobile phones are not used as Distance Measuring Devices.

PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE: (Artificial Devices and Unusual Equipment; Abnormal Use of Equipment)

Match Play: Loss of Hole; Stroke Play: Two Strokes. For any subsequent offence: Disqualification.

In the event of a breach between the play of two holes, the applies to the next hole. Click to Return to Index USE OF RIDE ON BUGGIES

7

18. NO competitor may use a ride on buggy in club competitions unless they have medical accreditation indicating that they cannot walk the course. Penalty for breach of Local Rule: The player gets the general penalty for each hole during which there is a breach of this Local Rule. If the breach occurs between the play of two holes, it applies to the next hole.

CHANGE OF CONDITIONS

19. If, in the opinion of the BPGC Committee, it becomes impossible to complete a competition in accordance with that Competition’s Conditions because of adverse weather or other circumstances, the BPGC Committee may vary the Conditions to the extent necessary to achieve a result within the time available.

The BPGC Competition Committee’s decisions will be final. ENTRY FOR MEN’S, LADIES’ AND ANY COMBINATION COMPETITION

20. Notices will be displayed two weeks prior to the competition day advertising the competition details and whether a start time needs to be reserved.

21. Tee times can be reserved on the BRS system or in the Pro shop by entering names onto the competition start sheet. Telephone reservations will be accepted.

22. When a tee time is reserved players must be at the starting tee 5 minutes before their tee time.

23. No member can enter more than three names in any singles medal or stableford competitions or themselves and markers in any 4-ball competition – i.e.: maximum two pairs).

24. The competition fee must be paid when signing in and collecting the scorecard.

25. Members who fail to turn up for a competition will be excluded from entry into the next competition as determined by the Match Committee/Ladies Committee. The entry fee must also be paid.

26. When there are no tee times e.g.: mid-week medals and Stablefords – players must sign in, pay and collect their card in the Pro shop prior to play.

27. All club competitions are open to juniors unless otherwise stated. However when playing in men’s competitions an adult MUST be present. Exception a category 1 Junior may mark a medal card for another junior member.

28. Three qualifying scores must be returned each year in order for individuals to maintain a Competition Handicap. All members must have a Competition handicap to win trophies or vouchers in club competitions. Those without a Competition handicap may enter all club competitions with the exception of Club knockouts…Singles, Fourball or Foursomes.

29. Competitions will be played on the course designated by the Match Committee. Each competition will start on the designated 1st Hole, ie, Brownlow = 1st, Belmont = 10th and the Ancaster = 19th. However, there will be occasions when this is not practicable. For example, course bookings may interrupt the flow of play and in these instances, a Committee Member (and in this case this includes the Shop Staff) may authorise starting the competition on ‘its’ back nine.
