After five sessions of the International Training Course on UNESCO Global Geoparks Management and Development have been successfully held in Beijing since 2016, this training course has become a very important capacity-building mechanism in the community of UNESCO Global Geoparks. It has significantly improved the management and sustainable development of many global geoparks. With the support of UNESCO Global Geoparks Secretariat, the Global Geoparks Network (GGN), the Asia Pacific Geoparks Network (APGN), Department of Protected Area Management, National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China, and the Secretariat of Chinese Commission for UNESCO, the 6th International Training Course on UNESCO Global Geoparks Management and Development will be held in the period from 07 to 12 December 2020 in the Yimengshan UNESCO Global Geopark co-organized by the China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Yimengshan UNESCO Global Geopark, and Office of Chinese Geoparks Network, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, with the contribution of University of the Aegean, Greece. With respect to the current situation of the UNESCO Global Geoparks, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, this course aims to help Geopark workers to better understand the philosophy of UNESCO Global Geoparks, and to improve their ability in geopark management. The forthcoming course has an emphasis on Geopark application, evaluation, and revalidation processes. The lecturers are top international geopark experts from the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council, Global Geoparks Network Executive Board, and other institutions and UNESCO Global Geoparks. The course comprises two parts:

First part: Lectures and panel discussions Contents: UNESCO Global Geoparks’ philosophy, management, communication and sustainable development; UGGp application, evaluation and revalidation processes. Venue: Yimengshan UNESCO Global Geopark

Second part: On site exchange and case analysis Contents: Geopark visiting (including geopark museum) and idea exchange, Global Geopark’s opportunities and challenges, Geopark brand building and promotion, Case analysis. Venue: Yimengshan UNESCO Global Geopark

Notes: Participants are cordially invited to prepare their own presentations to introduce their experiences in geopark building, and the lecturers will give their comments and constructive suggestions.
