Sci. 2017, 7, 36, doi: 10.3390/admsci7040036 .................145 v About the Special Issue Editors Karen Jones earned her Ph.D. from Bangor University, United Kingdom, and currently serves as Associate Professor of Educational Leadership and Management at the University of Reading’s Institute of Education in the United Kingdom. A large part of her role involves the supervision of doctoral students, whose research in educational leadership and management encompasses a wide-range of socio-political, economic and cultural contexts, such as Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Ghana, China, Turkey, and the UK. Karen is also Deputy Director of a professional doctoral degree in education—Ed.D., which has over 100 students from around the World, who are all working professionals in the field of education. She leads the Education Leadership and Management pathway on the MA Education, serves on the research ethics committee and the “Improving Equity and Inclusion through Education” Research Group. Karen previously served at the University of Plymouth, where she successfully directed a post-graduate program in Organizational Leadership, commissioned by the NHS Leadership Academy (South-West England). Prior to that, at Bangor University, she taught and researched a major £8m Leadership Development initiative for owner–managers of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), funded by the Welsh Government and the European Social Fund. Karen’s primary research interest is women and leadership. Karen has published her research on this topic, most recently with a peer-reviewed journal paper that concerns the normalization of sexism in the workplace. She regularly presents her research at conferences, workshops, and events, and has designed and led initiatives to tackle gender stereotyping, unconscious bias, and sexism in the workplace and in the teaching and learning environment. Arta Ante serves currently as Professor for Communication Management at design akademie berlin, SRH University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, and teaches courses in Communication Management, Gender, and Intercultural Communication. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Vienna, Austria and was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Humboldt Universitat¨ Berlin. Her research topic was gender-focused communication in academic settings. Furthermore, she was also responsible for the management of a grant application for Horizon 2020, the EU Research and Innovation Programme (Value 2.3 Mio. Euros) with more than 11 partner academic institutions around Europe, focused on reducing gender inequalities in higher education. Arta additionally holds the office of Gender Equality Officer at design akademie berlin and her role consists partly of consulting the university leadership in issues related to communication and gender. Arta also has extensive experience in the management of the international non-profit sector, including the United Nations. Karen A. Longman serves as Professor and Ph.D. Program Director in APU’s Department of Higher Education. This program currently serves approximately 100 students, all of whom are working professionals in the field. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and teaches courses in Higher Education Administration, Critical Issues in Higher Education, and Ethical Issues in Higher Education. Karen also holds the role of Senior Fellow with the 180-member Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU), where she worked for 19 years as Vice President for Professional Development and Research. In that role, Karen coordinated the design of an Executive Leadership Development Initiative, which has served over 400 participants (presidents, chief academic officers, and emerging leaders). Karen is co-editing a seven-volume book series focused on Women and Leadership. She was the lead editor on the vii first volume in the series, titled Women and Leadership in Higher Education (for details, see http://www.ila-net.org/communities/ag/WomenAndLeadershipV1.pdf). She also co-edits the journal Christian Higher Education: An International Journal of Research, Theory and Practice, and she has served on several national and international boards over the past 20 years. Robyn Remke is a Lecturer in the Department of Leadership and Management, within the Lancaster University Management School of Lancaster University (U.K.). She has published numerous articles, focused primarily on the use of a critical/feminist lens to explore the gendered nature of leadership, organizations, and organizing. In particular, Dr. Remke has researched the ways that organizational members embody practices such as leadership, diversity management, and parental leave policies through communication. Additionally, her scholarly work has focused on alternative forms of workplace organizational structures and gendered identity in the workplace. Dr. Remke is the Past-President of the Organization for the Study of Language, Communication, and Gender.
