Enclave, Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia, and Chevrolet Traverse all share the GM Lambda platform. The enclave was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in 2006, officially as a concept car, making it the first Lambda car to be shown. The enclave is based in part on the Buick Centieme concept shown at the Detroit Motor Show in 2003. The enclave replaced both Buick SUVs, a Rendezvous-based minivan and a Rainier-based truck, as well as a Terraza minivan. In 2014, the Enclave took first place in the Affordable Midsize SUV ranking in the U.S. News and World report. The second-generation enclave was officially displayed at the 2017 New York Auto Show. It comes in the standard version with a front-wheel drive with a four-wheel drive option. The enclave shares powertrains with its Lambda siblings. During the first year of its production, the Enclave was equipped with a 275 hp (205 kW) 3.6 liter High Feature V6 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. For the 2009 model, the upgraded power boost for the 3.6 L V6 Spark Ignition Direct Injection VVT is now at 288 hp (215 kW) and 270 lb⋅ft (366 N⋅m) of standard torque (also standard on other 2009 Lambdas). The last direct engine offers a wider torque curve, and brings fuel economy to 17 mpg-U.S. gallon-U.S. 20 mpg)/24 mpg-U.S. (9.8 l/100 km; 29 mpg-imp) for FWD models and 16 mpg-U.S. (15 L/100 km; 19 mpg-im)/22 mpg-U.S. (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg-imp) for AWD models, according to new estimates from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Lambda cars were built at the new GM Delta Township Assembly near Lansing, Michigan, and the Enclave began production on April 11, 2007, and the first cars reached certain dealerships by the end of the month. The Enclave debuted at a starting price of $32,790. The enclave is often praised for its subsequently vast cargo space, while maintaining the relatively dynamic nature of building a unibody over a conventional body on a frame. He is also praised for being one of the quietest cars available for sale in the United States, as well as for the quality of the interior. In its first year of production, the Enclave was often criticized for its six-speed transmission, which was indecisive to downshift. In 2009, however, the transmission is considered more competent with more abundant torque. For all its production, it was regarded as too heavy, weighing almost 5,000 pounds (2,300 kg) with all-wheel drive. Buick's VentiPorts re-emerged at the introduction of the Enclave, a styling feature unique to Buick dating back to 1949. Initial sales of the Enclave were very strong, demand far exceeded production capacity, which forced GM to add a third shift to the Delta Township plant. With the arrival of Buick Envision (which is located between enclave and Buick Encore) in North America in 2016 (for the 2017 model year), the Enclave will be larger after envision's debut, and the 2017 model year Enclave will be the last under the first generation platform. 2013 facelift Buick Enclave GM unveiled the 2013 Buick Enclave on April 3, 2012, the day before its official debut at the New York Auto Show. The 2013 model has a revised exterior style, including a new chrome waterfall grille, xenon headlights with LED running lights, LED lights and LED taillights. Interior updates include a redesigned dashboard with softer touchscreen materials, wooden and chrome accents, blue ambient lighting and an IntelliLink touchscreen display. Among the safety features are seven standard airbags, including the industry's first front-facing airbag and accessible blind zone monitoring. Sales in the U.S. and Canadian markets began in 2007 in the 2008 model year. In 2008, General Motors began exporting the Enclave to China, which will be sold through the Shanghai Buick gm network. The Buick brand was relaunched in Mexico in the 2010 model year, bringing the Enclave into this market. The long-wheeled version of GM's C1XX chassis, which shares the same platform with the Chevrolet Traverse, has moved away from the egg-shaped Enclave, but has retained some elements of the previous generation, featuring a sleeker aerodynamic look, a lower roof line and the introduction of the Evonik Alitecry external front lighting, framing the new three-dimensional buick grille with chrome wings. Powered by a 3.6-liter V-6 in pairing with a new nine-speed automatic transmission, it produces 310 hp (231 kW) with 266 feet of ⋅ pounds (361 N⋅mm) of torque. The second generation enclave comes in a standard front- wheel drive or available with an Intelligent AWD with an active dual-clutch rear differential that complements its first switchable all-wheel drive system. There are three trim levels, including the new top line premium Avenir sub-brand. 2022 Facelift In early 2020, General Motors originally planned to launch a version of Buick Enclave in mid-to-late 2020 as a 2021 model year car. The facelift will take many design elements and features along with new LED headlights and taillights already seen on the Chinese version of Buick Enclave. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, General Motors postponed the launch and production of the Enclave car with a facelift until 2021, as well as the 2022 model year car. The Chinese version of Front View Rear View Buick Enclave Avenir on October 22, 2019, Buick introduced the Chinese enclave market. Although it has similar features as a full-size North American enclave, the Chinese version is shorter with a design different from its counterpart; there are no plans to make it available in North America. Buick had planned to name the Chinese version of Envoy (a name previously used in a mid-size GMC SUV in North America from 1998 to 2007), but instead decided to use the name Enclave. The Chinese Enclave is equipped with GM electronic precision technology and is equipped exclusively with a 2.0-liter LSY engine with 233 horsepower, paired with GM's new 9-speed automatic transmission.     Regal Roading In a Better Buick By Roger Witherspoon For many years, general descriptions accompanying many of General Motors’ SUVs were not very flattering. They were big. They guzzled gas. Their technology wasn’t particularly up to date, and their interiors were, well, reminiscent of Grandma’s. But then, things started to change after Ed Welburn, the sculptor trained at Howard University, took control of GM’s crayons. Welburn and company took a long look at what worked in the SUV, luxury sedan, and performance markets and rolled them into the Buick Enclave, a distinct, stylish, go-anywhere, technologically proficient which shows what GM can do when it really wants to be competitive. Outside, the Enclave has the “crossover” styling reminiscent of the Infiniti FX or Lexus RX350, with bold, rounded lines and a silhouette starting with the sloping, Buick grille and flowing over 19-inch wheels to a rounded rear. Even though the Enclave is a full sized SUV with three rows of seats, it avoids the ungainly boxy styling which characterizes many of the larger SUVs.
