Northamptonshire 5 Rings Rides: The Red Route – Daventry Ring -Route length – 9 miles -Suitable for most, although may not be suitable for young children. Mainly shared-use cycle/footways, with sections on mainly quiet roads. Some busy road crossings. Allow 2 hours. Route notes refer to locations on map: 1 – Suggested start point behind the Daventry Icon 2 building – join National Cycle Route 50, cycling along the old railway line for roughly 0.75 miles. 2 – Turn right alongside Shackleton Drive. Continue to where the cycleway turns right, away from the road. Follow for 0.5 miles to Welton Lane. 3 – Turn left where the cycleway enters the housing estate. Follow to Newbury Drive, turning right. On 6 reaching the turning circle, follow the cycleway on Catesby the left up the field to Middlemore. Grange 4 – Cross Ashby Road and head, on road, through Middlemore following Farnborough Drive down to Drayton Fields Industrial Estate (Newnham Drive). 5 – Cross Newnham Drive and turn right following the cycleway around the industrial estate (just over 0.5 miles) - where the cycleway ends it is suggested Daventry Old Railway that cycles are pushed to Drayton Way – Line experienced cyclists may wish to ride in the road. 6 – Follow the cycleway along and across Drayton Way. Cycle, on road, along Sopwith Way to 1 - Start Faraday Close. Turn right and go through the alleyway into Catesby Grange, following the cycleways through to Road. 7 – Before the next roundabout (A45), turn left into Spencer Crescent, and then right onto the 7 cycleway which heads down into the underpass below the roundabout. On the other side of the roundabout, follow the cycleway to the right that runs alongside the A45 (Leamington Way). Proceed to the next underpass, turning left in the centre of the roundabout. 12 8 – Bear right onto Thames Road, then turn left 8 Danetre School into Derwent Close. At the end of Derwent Close, join the pathway to the right and continue Derwent Close alongside the park to Staverton Road. Cross into the alleyway opposite, turning left at the first junction, then right into the park (next to Southbrook College). Follow the cycleway along the edge of the park to Road West. 11 9 – Cross into Christchurch Drive, and follow the cycle lane along its full length. At the far end turn left and cycle along Western Avenue to the Toucan crossing. 10 – Cross at the Toucan and go along the cycleway 9 Napier Close directly ahead to The Slade. Turn right onto The Slade, then take the first left into Spring Close. Take the alleyway ahead into The Dingle. At the far end of The Dingle, cross Road and enter 10 the track opposite and to the right. 11 – Follow this through to St Augustin Way, turn left and cycle along this road to the underpass on the right, under the A425. Turn right again and cycle up to and along Napier Close. Turn right and left again almost immediately, taking the cycleway between two rows of houses (marked with two yellow posts). Follow this through the Southbrook estate to, and past Danetre School.
