6 February / March 2017 The Hunt for the 2017 X Class by: Angela Carlascio Photo Credits: Turtleshark Shooter Championship… has begun. – Tane Hopu First, what is the X Class to the CFR Autocross program? I know I have spoken about it during our events but with so much going on who knows what sound bites any one of us have heard. So here we go. The “X Class” was created to gather all the classes together into one class to create a field of competitors who wanted to win a year end Championship based on their individual classes PAX Time. It's a way of saying, hey let's take the bench racing to the pavement. *evil smirk*

Now, before we go further, let me give you the definition of PAX:

PAX: Stands for Professional Autocross. The PAX system had a method of scoring cars together from a wide variety of classes by applying a multiplier to their times. The #44 KM Chuck Lutz two time FTD winner. original PAX index has been replaced by the Racer's Theoretical Performance index (RTP) but the term “PAX” other definition for that other than Fastest Time of the Day. is still informally used to reflect the process. CFR uses the fastest “Raw” time to determine FTD.

And since they gave a reference to RTP, let's give you that How is RTP aka PAX determined? According to my source, definition: SCCA member Rick Ruth collects data from select local Racer's Theoretical Performance (RTP): RTP is an Regional events all over the country, the Championship indexing system that is designed to balance the Tours (including Nationals), the Match Tours and the CAM performance of all classes. It does so by multiplying a events to work his formula to determine the class driver's time by a pre-determined factor. For example, a multipliers. time of 60.000 in a fast class would be multiplied by .950 for an index time of 57.000. A driver in a slower class, So class, because I honestly feel this has become some sort where the index is .900 who turned a time of 62.000 of lesson, now we have an explanation of our X Class and would have an index time of 55.800. Thus, the driver in have the definitions of how we determine the winning the “slower” class, despite having the slower “raw” time, driver. With this knowledge let's look at what's been going met more of their class's potential, and thus has a better on since the first Points event held in Brooksville, FL on 22 indexed time. January. The first event of the season had 8 entries from the classes of DS, FS, STR and STU1. Here is how that day So in the past when you have read my articles where I've stacked up: written about who held the Fastest PAX Time (FTP) here is So as you can see #1 Ian Stewart running an STR '06 Honda that definitions meaning for the X Class:

FTP: Fastest Time PAX – The fastest time in an event, once times are adjusted for class potential using the Racer's Theoretical Performance index, often known as RTP or PAX.

*Note* The X Class may not always hold the FTP winner because that competitor may have been running in their own class. S2000 with a raw time of 40.785 with his STR class multiplier .830 has a winning X Class time of 33.851. This in comparison Besides FTP there is FTD, Fastest Time of the Day. There is no to second place's #75 Greg “run dirty till its clean'”
