J.P. Morgan Chase saw its dollar volume soar 55%. Citibank, after years of shrinkage, upped the value of its SBA loans by a whopping 220% to fin- ish eighth in dollar terms. In contrast, Bank of America saw its volume fall by 27%, as the bank dropped to fourth place from second. The average size of all loans made in the New York district slipped last year to $103,541, while total loan dollar volume rose by 3%. paul grange paul

More than 15 of the mall’s stores, including Macy’s, Armani Ex- change and H&M, have already signed up for round-the-clock shopping. This year is the first that the shopping center’s management has allowed all of its stores to do so. “There are a lot of people who work late shifts or graveyard shifts,” says Dawn Simon, senior marketing manager for Macerich, which owns the shopping center. “Our staying open gives those people the oppor- tunity to shop on their lunch hours.” In some cases, that may mean mid- night or 3 a.m. The 175-store mall is situated on Queens Boulevard, across the street from St. John’s Queens Hospital and a few blocks away from a De- partment of Environmental Protec- tion building. Both have large num- bers of night-shift employees. Ranked as the nation’s most profitable mall per square foot, Queens Center logged more than 3 million shoppers last December. Management is hoping the four- day moonlight extravaganza will push those numbers higher. Last year, Macy’s Inc. chose its Queens Center store as the place to launch its first-ever all-night shop- ping weekend. The mall’s owners agreed but limited the experiment to Macy’s and three adjacent small shops. Only one parking garage was staffed, and the rest of the mall re- mained dark. FESTIVAL TO FESTIVAL Originally from Washington, D.C., Ms. Schafer founded the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin,Texas, in 1994. She returned to the East Coast seven years ago and joined the Tribeca festival as a when it was created in 2002. She was promoted last summer.
