Form guide • Celtic are yet to win in four games, though a 3-3 draw at SK Rapid Wien in the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League group stage ended a run of three straight defeats in Austria. Their results have got progressively better with every visit (3-0, 3-1, 2-1, 3-3). • The first – and worst – of those Celtic results came in Salzburg, with FC Wacker Innsbruck playing their 1977/78 European Champion Clubs' Cup home ties at Salzburg's old home, Stadion Lehen. • Salzburg have lost just one of their last eight European home games – 2-1 against FC Basel 1893 in last season's round of 16 – with that run including seven victories. • Celtic have won just one of their last eight European away matches – 1-0 at KR Reykjavík in this season's UEFA Champions League second qualifying round. Their away record in 30 UEFA group stage away games – UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League included – is W1 D5 L24, with that lone victory a 3-2 success at FC Spartak Moskva in the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League. • Salzburg won all six of their UEFA Europa League group stage outings in both 2009/10 and 2013/14. Only three other sides – FC Zenit (2010/11), RSC Anderlecht (2011/12) and Tottenham Hotspur FC (2013/14) – have earned a clean sweep since the competition took its current form. Trivia and links • Salzburg's Belgian winger Massimo Bruno turns 21 on the eve of the Celtic game; he has scored once in 13 UEFA club competition games. • Salzburg's Spanish forward Jonatan Soriano was the top scorer in last season's UEFA Europa League with eight goals in seven games from the start of the group stage. • Salzburg midfielder Valon Berisha, left out of his club's UEFA Europa League squad due to injury, and Celtic counterpart Stefan Johansen are team-mates with Norway. The coaches • Adi Hütter took charge of Salzburg following Roger Schmidt's departure for Bayer 04 Leverkusen in summer 2014. A former midfielder with the club, he coached Salzburg's youth teams before moving into senior football with SCR Altach and SV Grödig, whom he led to promotion and then a third-place finish in Austria last season. • Celtic coach Ronny Deila – who celebrates his 39th birthday three days after the Salzburg match – took charge of the Hoops in June 2014 following a successful spell at Strømsgodset IF in his native Norway. The former Odd Grenland and Viking FK defender led the Drammen club to the 2010 Norwegian Cup title and, in 2013, their first league crown since 1970. 3 FC Salzburg - Celtic FC Thursday 18 September 2014 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit Stadion Salzburg, Salzburg Team facts FC Salzburg Formed: 1933 UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • UEFA Cup: (1994) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 8 (2014) Austrian Cup: 2 (2014) Ten-year record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2013/14: round of 16 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2012/13: UEFA Champions League second qualifying round 2011/12: round of 32 2010/11: group stage (having transferred from UEFA Champions League play-offs) 2009/10: round of 32 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League play-offs) 2008/09: first round 2007/08: first round (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2006/07: first round (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2005/06: did not take part in UEFA competition 2004/05: did not take part in UEFA competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 7-0: Salzburg v FC Banants 17/07/08, UEFA Cup first qualifying round first leg • Biggest away win 2-6: FC Nistru Otaci v Salzburg 01/07/00, UEFA Intertoto Cup second round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-4: Salzburg v FC Metalist Kharkiv 16/02/12, UEFA Europa League round of 32 first leg 0-4: Salzburg v Parma FC 06/11/03, UEFA Cup second round first leg • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: Parma FC v Salzburg 27/11/03, UEFA Cup second round second leg 5-0: Fortuna Düsseldorf v Salzburg 17/09/80, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round first leg UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup • Biggest home win 7-0: Salzburg v FC Banants (see above) • Biggest away win 1-4: SK Liepājas Metalurgs v Salzburg 14/07/11, second qualifying round first leg 1-4: FK Sūduva v Salzburg 14/08/08, second qualifying round first leg 0-3 on three occasions, most recently v AFC Ajax 20/02/14, round of 32 first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-4: Salzburg v FC Metalist Kharkiv (see above) 0-4: Salzburg v Parma FC (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: Parma FC v Salzburg (see above) Celtic FC 4 FC Salzburg - Celtic FC Thursday 18 September 2014 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit Stadion Salzburg, Salzburg Formed: 1888 Nickname: The Hoops, The Bhoys UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • European Champion Clubs' Cup (1): 1967, (1970) • UEFA Cup: (2003) • European/South American Cup: (1967) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 45 (2014) Scottish Cup: 36 (2013) Ten-year European record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2013/14: UEFA Champions League group stage 2012/13: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2011/12: group stage 2010/11: play-offs (having transferred from the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2009/10: group stage (having transferred from the UEFA Champions League play-offs) 2008/09: UEFA Champions League group stage 2007/08: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2006/07: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2005/06: UEFA Champions League second qualifying round 2004/05: UEFA Champions League group stage Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 9-0: Celtic v KPV Kokkola 16/09/70, European Champion Clubs' Cup first round first leg • Biggest away win 0-7: Waterford United FC v Celtic 21/10/70, European Champion Clubs' Cup second round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: Celtic v AC Milan 26/11/13, UEFA Champions League group stage 0-3: Celtic v Juventus 12/02/13, UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg 0-3: Celtic v Paris Saint-Germain 02/11/95, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup second round second leg • Heaviest away defeat 6-1: FC Barcelona v Celtic 11/12/13, UEFA Champions League group stage UEFA Cup/Europa League • Biggest home win 8-1: Celtic v FK Sūduva 19/09/02, first round first leg 7-0: Celtic v AS Jeunesse Esch 24/08/00, qualifying round second leg • Biggest away win 0-6: Cwmbran Town FC v Celtic 12/08/99, qualifying round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-2: Celtic v Hamburger SV 10/09/96, first round first leg • Heaviest away defeat 5-1: Neuchâtel Xamax FC v Celtic 22/10/91, second round first leg 4-0: FC Utrecht v Celtic 26/08/10, play-off second leg 5 FC Salzburg - Celtic FC Thursday 18 September 2014 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit Stadion Salzburg, Salzburg Squad list FC Salzburg Current season All-time UCL UEL League UEL UEFA No.
