After the film there will be a Q & A with the producer/director, Andrea Sadler, and Master Storyteller, Jonathan Kruk. Kruk enlivens Washington Irving’s classic gothic tale with sartorial splendor, and his poetic persona beguiles the audience with a myriad of visages, voices, sounds and gestures. Jim Keyes, the musical director who accompanies Jonathan’s shows at the Old Dutch Church on its replica 17th- century pipe organ, scored the film. Written in 1819, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow made Irving famous and continues to captivate audiences today. This horror-romance tells of a Yankee schoolmaster infatuated with a Dutch heiress, chased off by a goblin known as the Headless Horseman. True to the author’s original tale, the performance delivers drama, mystery and wit. The author of Legends and Lore of Sleepy Hollow and the Hudson Valley, Jonathan is renowned for dramatically retelling The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, countless times since 1996, selling out every October weekend for Historic Hudson Valley with his annual signature show. Kruk is also acclaimed for his solo show of A Christmas Carol. With more than 500 shows a year, he regales all with programs such as Medieval Manors & Manners, Finger Fables, Mythology, Story Theater, Shakespeare is Elementary and Hudson River Lore to schools, libraries, historic sites and festivals. Jonathan Kruk has been featured on ABC Good Morning America, CBS Sunday Morning News and History Channel. He has previously appeared at Tompkins Corners in both The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and A Christmas Carol. Filmed in Sleepy Hollow’s 1685 Old Dutch Church, the actual setting of Irving’s Legend, this iconic church is the oldest religious building in New York and one of the longest continuously active congregations in North America. Nestled between the Sleepy Hollow cemetery, where Washington Irving rests, and the bridge of the Headless Horseman’s ride, the location provides a palpable ghostly presence. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow will be the first film to be shown at Tompkins Corners since the organization was awarded funding by the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley to purchase a new screen and projector. The evening’s program is made possible, in part, through the Putnam Arts Council’s Arts Link Program, with public funds provided through the NY State Council on the Arts with support from Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NY State Legislature and with funds from Putnam County.     The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow By: Washington Irving n the eastern shore of the Hudson River, nestled in upstate New York, lies a small village known as Tarry Town. And not two miles from this village is a little valley that is one of the quietest places in the whole world. A small brook glides through it with just a murmur. The occasional whistle of a quail or the tapping of a woodpecker are the only sounds to break the silence. This tranquil place has long been known as Sleepy Hollow. Some say the place is bewitched, causing the residents of Sleepy Hollow to fall into trances and see visions or hear music or voices in the air. Nightmares are frequent among the residents, and the local lore is rich with peculiar stories, strange superstitions, and tales of hauntings. The most horrible spirit that haunts the region is a horseman without a head. He is believed to have been a soldier whose head was carried away by a cannonball. He is seen by the country fold as he hurries along in the gloom of night, searching for his head. He is known as the Headless Horseman. One fateful year, a schoolteacher named Ichabod Crane moved to Tarry Town from Connecticut. He was tall and exceedingly thin, with narrow shoulders, hands that dangled a mile out of their sleeves, and feet that looked more like shovels. His head was small, with huge ears, a spindle neck, and a long beak of a nose. To see him in the distance on a windy day, with his clothes fluttering, you’d think he was a scarecrow.

Rockefeller and home to four generations of the Rockefeller family, sits high above the eastern banks of the Hudson River over looking the Palisades. Within the gardens of Kykuit are two distinct collections of sculpture. The fountains, wellheads and classical figures - from ancient and Renaissance models or by American sculptors of the early 20th century - were assembled between 1906 and 1913 by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. and landscape architect William Welles Bosworth. The terraces descending to the west and the formal geometric spaces defined by stone walls and box hedges are punctuated by the pergolas and fountains integral to Italian garden design. In 1963, Governor Nelson Rockefeller elaborated upon this tradition and brought to Kykuit works by Lachaise, Arp, Lipchitz, Marini and Giacometti, beginning the collection of modern sculpture that graces the park today. He continued to add pieces during his 16-year residence at Kykuit, taking great care in the precise siting of each.
