Hovering there I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air. "Up, up the long delirious burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle, flew; and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God." Posted: Mon., Dec. 28, 2009, 8:00pm PT Adler, McCarthy engulfed in WWII 'Fog' Producers option sci-fi horror comicbook 'Night and Fog' By TATIANA SIEGEL Producers Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy have optioned the sci-fi horror comicbook "Night and Fog" from publisher Studio 407. No stranger to comicbook-based material, Adler has produced such graphic-based fare as "Constantine," "Superman Returns" and the upcoming Brandon Routh starrer "Dead of Night," which is based on the popular Italian title "Dylan Dog." This material is definitely in my strike zone in more ways than one," Adler said, noting his prior role as a producer of such horror projects as the "Tales From the Crypt" series. "But what really appealed to me wasn't so much the genre trappings but rather the characters that really drive this story." Set during WWII, story revolves around an infectious mist unleashed on a military base that transforms its victims into preternatural creatures of the night. But when the survivors try to kill them, they adapt and change into something even more horrific and unstoppable. Studio 407's Alex Leung will also serve as a producer on "Night and Fog." Adler and McCarthy are also teaming to produce an adaptation of "Havana Nocturne" along with Eric Eisner. They also recently optioned Ken Bruen's crime thriller "Tower." "Night and Fog" is available in comic shops in the single-issue format and digitally on iPhone through Comixology.

  • WRITER's GUIDE 2004 Season 3
WRITER’S GUIDE 2004 Season 3 Created for Television by Michael Piller & Shawn Piller Based on characters from the Stephen King novel Copyright © 2004 Lions Gate Television. All rights reserved. No portion of this document may be performed, published, sold or distributed by any means, or quoted or published in any medium, including on any web site, without prior written consent. Disposal of this script copy does not alter any of the restrictions set forth above. WRITER’S GUIDE 2004 Season 3 INTRODUCTION A few to-dos before you come in to pitch. 1. Watch the pilot. 2. Read the book by Stephen King. 3. Watch the episode “Destiny”, our first season cliffhanger. 4. Watch Frank Capra’s Meet John Doe. 5. Watch Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ. Some don’ts: 1. Although Johnny should help someone in most every story, we don’t want this to become “Touched by an Angel”. We must find interesting, unique and fresh ways to tell stories. No preaching please. Find the unexpected twist. 2. Don’t pitch story arcs that run multiple episodes. What we need from you are self-contained stories. 3. We do not want to hear any pitches based on previously seen material -- whether film or television. Those kinds of story ideas occur to everybody -- including The Dead Zone staff. Johnny Smith is a fresh and unusual character, never before seen on television. We want fresh and unusual story concepts that likewise have not been seen on television. If it can be said of an idea "Star Trek did that" -- or "Buffy" or "The X-Files" or "Twilight Zone" -- then that is not an idea you should pitch.

  • Canadian Television 2015 a Guide to Current Production
CANADIAN TELEVISION 2015 A GUIDE TO CURRENT PRODUCTION Prepared for Michael Hennessy, President & CEO Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) Curated by Bill Brioux CANADIAN TELEVISION 2015 1 A GUIDE TO CURRENT PRODUCTION CANADIAN TV ENTERS A GOLDEN AGE For the last 30 years, in my time reporting on it, television in Canada has undergone many changes. The one constant, however, has been the nagging impression that Canadian television is somehow inferior to the US brand. This notion has only intensified in recent years, in what some call the new “Golden Age” of TV drama. So, as many have been asking, where is Canada’s Golden Age? Well, you’ll find it in the pages of this book. Not everything that comes out of Canada is the quality of The Sopranos or Mad Men or Breaking Bad. Then again, few shows from America can come close to Bill Brioux these classics. The fact is Fargo, the most-nominated TV series at the 2014 Emmy Awards, is produced in the province of Alberta. Yes, the producers and many of the stars are Americans, but you should hear them gush about Canadian crews. Billy Bob Thornton, for one, is a fan. “One night, it went down to 40 below and they wouldn’t allow us to work,” he told me of working near Calgary on Fargo. “You figure if a Canadian says it’s too dangerous to go out there, it probably is too dangerous to go out.” FX Networks, considered the top non-premium US cable brand and a rival to HBO overall, invested The fact is television $100 million in Canada during the past TV season.

Burrows Submitted in fulfillment of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Media and Cultural Studies at the University of Sussex, May 2014 3 University of Sussex Karen K. Burrows Escaping the Honeytrap: Representations and Ramifications of the Female Spy on Television Since 1965 Summary My thesis interrogates the changing nature of the espionage genre on Western television since the middle of the Cold War. It uses close textual analysis to read the progressions and regressions in the portrayal of the female spy, analyzing where her representation aligns with the achievements of the feminist movement, where it aligns with popular political culture of the time, and what happens when the two factors diverge. I ask what the female spy represents across the decades and why her image is integral to understanding the portrayal of gender on television. I explore four pairs of television shows from various eras to demonstrate the importance of the female spy to the cultural landscape.
