Crook County was not settled by emigrants until around 1870. The first organized public cemetery was started in that year at Prineville, soon followed by Mill Creek Cemetery in 1872. Seven more were created by the mid-I 890s. Crook County had livestock ranches and many families used family cemeteries.

BARNES A 0.25 5 1888 T188 R208 S35 AKA: 1. CAMP CREEK Go 31 miles south from Prineville on OR. Hwy. 2. DEMARIS 27. Turn left (east) on Bear Creek-Fife Road and go 27 miles. The cemetery is about 30 yards off of the road on the right. The site of Barnes School is 0.5 of a mile further on. There are about 8 graves, with 2 markers reported in 1980. BEAVER CREEK C 1 1 1883 T16S R24E 815 AKA: 1. LISTER Located on the former Lister Ranch about 10 2. PAULINA miles northeast of Paulina. Go 4.7 miles east of Paulina on the Paulina-Suplee Road, then turn left onto Beaver Creek Road and go 3.4 miles. Turn right onto Lister Road and go another 1.4 miles. The cemetery is on the north (left) side of the road. There are 74 graves, with 4 unidentified (1980). (Mud Spring 1983 USGS Quad. map.)

DEEDS BABIES A 7 ? ? T17S R25E Si]. Two babies of the Deeds family are reported to be buried on the Henry Bernard Ranch (1966). Leave the Paulina-Suplee Road east of Paulina at the Suplee junction. Turn left (north) onto Bernard Road and drive about 2 miles to the Bernard Ranch on Miners Flat. NOTE: The graves are on private property. (The ranch but not the graves are shown on Suplee 1981 USGS Quad. map.)

DELORE A ? 3 1887 T188 R25E S13 AKA: 1. ROBERTSON Located 4 miles south of the Paulina-Suplee 2. SUPLEE Road and 0.25 of a mile west of Weberg Road. There were 25 known graves in 1980, mostly descendants of French-Canadians from French Prairie in Marion County, via French Cemetery in Wasco County. 2. HAMMACK RANCH, are reported on the old Cunningham Ranch now VERLE owned by Verle Hammack. Access is by way of Highway (U.S. 20), going east out of Bend towards Burns. Once past Brothers continue on about 11 miles. Turn off left (northeasterly) on Van Lake Road. Go about 4.2 miles to the Crook County Line. Continue ahead another 4.5 miles to the ranch road right (east). The cedar grave markers have been burnt. HELD ? ? ? ? T193 R198 S4 Reportedly there is an old cemetery for the bygone community of Held. Leave Prineville to the south by the way of the Highway (OR. Hwy. 27). Drive 27 miles to the junction with Bear Creek-Fife Road to the left (east). Proceed easterly on this county road for about 17.5 miles to the site of Held. As of 1976 there were no buildings left here. One can continue ahead on Bear Creek-Fife Road for 0.4 of a mile to the junction with Pringle Flat Road right (south). Turn onto Pringle Flat Road and drive 18 miles to the locale of Brothers on Central Oregon Highway, U.S. Hwy. 20 and thence one can drive to Bend. Held was important enough to have had a post office from May 1909 to May 1919. (The site of Held is shown but no graveyard is shown on Pringle Flat 1992 USGS Quad. map.)

HOWARD A 0.25 2 1892 T143 R198 58 AKA: 1. OCHOCO Located in Sections 8 and 9. Go 16 miles east of Prineville on U.S. Hwy. 26. Turn right onto Ochoco Creek Road and go another 5.4 miles. The cemetery is on the right,

KNOX FAMILY, E. B. A 1 3 1887-1935 T178 R198 88 AKA: I. NEWSOME Located south of Post on the old E. B. Knox CREEK Ranch on Newsome Creek. It was on the Owen Panne Place (1978). There are 18 graves, with 8 unmarked (1980). A visit by Jim and Evelyn Rogers in Sept. 1994 found only 8 markers with 7 unmarked graves, plus records of two cremations. Vandalized by cattle breaking in and repair work has resulted in markers being moved about. NOTE: This is on private property. {Sept. 1994} ( Ridge 1990 USGS Quad. map.)

PILGRIM'S REST C 2 1 1905 T16S R14E S11 AKA: 1. POWELL BUTTE At 0.8 of a mile west of the community of Powell Butte leave OR. Hwy. 126, and go south 2.8 miles on the road to Alfalfa. At the sharp curve to the right (west) turn to your left (east) onto Bussett Road, at 1 mile you will come to a "T" intersection, at this turn right (south) on Cemetery Road. Travel 1.76 miles more and on your left (east) is the cemetery. {30 September 2000) (Powell Butte 1962 USGS Quad. map.)

ROBERTS A 0.5 3 1888 T17S R17E S22 Located south of the Prineville Reservoir, near the abandoned townsite of Roberts. Go 28.3 miles south of Prineville on OR. Hwy. 27. Then turn left onto Salt Creek Road and go 4.3 miles to Roberts. The cemetery is 0.5 of a mile southwest of Roberts, on the tip of a ridge, about 400 feet southeast of a driveway and in the trees. There are 21 graves, with 2 unidentified (1980). (Alkali Flat 1990 USGS Quad. map.)
