In 2001, when the issue of the Market Place trees The first of my three chosen charities is arose, I found myself getting involved in the local Victim Support, as I am very aware of the amazing affairs. I took part in the fight to save Devizes work their staff and volunteers do, largely unsung, Hospital, becoming secretary to DASH2, and in to help victims of crime and domestic violence. 2013, much to my surprise and delight, I was elected Secondly, although I wish they did not have to exist, as a Town Councillor for South Ward. supporting the Devizes & District Food Bank If a couple of the qualities necessary to fulfil the seems the least I can do to help. role of Town Mayor are love of and pride in our Finally I would like to support Devizes Town wonderful town, then I can assure you that I have Youth Football Club’s “free of charge” football both in abundance. DEPUTY MAYOR’S MESSAGE Devizes is an amazing town, we moved here eleven years ago and we really like it. We have wonderful neighbours and the town is really safe. That is important for us as our son is disabled and he has been treated very well by the people of the town. I am just very grateful to have been elected, and am very much looking forward to taking office as Deputy Mayor in May and supporting our new Mayor, Judy Rose. I will continue helping youth activities in the town, through the Local Youth Network ( LYN), with an emphasis on disabled inclusion. The future of the town is looking very bright, with work to restore the old Assizes Court building and make it the new home of the , along with plans to develop the Wharf area and the possibility of a railway station coming back to the town. TRAFFIC ISSUES BETWEEN AVON TERRACE AND ROTHERSTONE We want to know your opinion! The Community Area Traffic Group is considering a request from residents that Rotherstone is made a no-through road, with the Cemetery end being closed to all motor vehicles. This is because this area is increasingly being held at the Devizes Cemetery Chapel used as a ‘rat run’ by motorists, which is causing significant safety issues. on There was a consultation with local residents some time ago, showing broad support for Thursday 27th June 2019 such a scheme, but we would welcome views from the wider community on this issue 9am to 3pm before moving the project forward towards formal consideration by .
