Royals Notes - Kansas City Royals @ Cleveland Indians - Monday, July 27, 2015 This & That ANOTHER WINNING MONTH IN THE BOOKS--After starting July with a 1-3 mark, the Royals have recovered by winning 14 of their last 19 to up this month’s ledger to 15-8 and lock up their fourth winning month of the year...this marks the first time since 1982 that Kansas City had a winning ledger in each of its first four months...KC opened this year with a 15-7 April, followed by a 14-12 May and then 15-11 June. CROWDS FLOCK TO ‘THE K’--The 6-game stay at Kauffman Stadium featured four sellouts and drew a total of 224,433 fans, a per game average of 37,406...KC has played before 16 sellouts at home this year and yesterday was the 37th crowd in excess of 30,000...2015 will be the first time since 1991 that KC will surpass the 2,000,000 mark, 12th time in team history...Kansas City has drawn 1,725,844 to this point and is averaging 33,189 per game, which is an improvement of 10,010 per contest compared to 52 dates last year...the Royals are on a pace to beat the team record of 2,477,700 set in 1989. MUST-SEE-TV--Not only are the Royals playing in front of huge gatherings at Kauffman Stadium, but the numbers are equally as impressive on FOX Sports Kansas City according to Nielsen Research...yesterday’s series finale with the Astros drew a 15.8 rating, the highest of the three-game series and seventh best ranked telecast ever on FSKC, though not by much with Saturday pulling a 13.8 and Friday a 12.7...at the time the Johnny Cueto trade was officially announced, the rating jumped from a 15.2 to a 17.2 in a 15-minute span...the Royals are averaging a big league best 12.1 household rating, which is a 115% increase over a year ago. AFTERNOON DELIGHTS--The Royals have been as hot as the sun during recent day games, with yesterday the club’s fifth in a row and running the recent stretch to 10-1 in its last 11 afternoon encounters...the only setback in this stretch was a 6-2 loss at home to Mark Buehrle and the Jays on July 11...overall, Kansas City has the best daytime winning pct. in the American League at .656 (21-11), second best in the Majors behind the Mets (.727)...KC is second in the A.L. in team batting in day contests with a .278 average, trailing only Detroit (.300). THE LAND OF HOZ--Eric Hosmer was able to enjoy the most of Sunday off, entering the contest as a defensive replacement in the ninth inning...he just missed a walk-off home run in the ninth inning on Saturday night vs. the Astros, settling for a triple that bounced off the top of the leftfield fence...the knock gave him an 8-game hitting streak in which the two-time Rawlings Gold Glove first baseman has batted .484 (15-for-31) with a double, two triples, homer, four RBI and a 1.285 OPS...a 5-for-31 slide from June 28-July 7 dropped his season average to .280, but he has since hit safely in 12 of 14 games at a .436 clip (24-for-55) with a 1.111 OPS. WADING THROUGH THE OPPOSITION--Relief ace Wade Davis, who worked in his first career All-Star Game with a scoreless inning on July 24, fired a 1-2-3 eighth inning against Houston on Saturday night...Davis has allowed two runs in 42.2 innings in 2015 for a miniscule 0.42 ERA...he now has 15 wins since the start of 2014, making him the winningest reliever in the Major Leagues over the last two seasons...since the dawn of the 2014 season, Wade has a 15-3 record with 12 rescues and a 0.78 ERA (10 earned runs in 114.2 innings) and limiting opponents to a .150 average (60-for-400)...since June 27 of last year, Wade has been even better, going 10-1 with 12 saves, a 0.56 ERA (5 ER in 81.0 IP)...he has now worked 124.2 consecutive innings without allowing a home run, the longest-active streak in the Major Leagues...Davis’ homerless streak dates back to August 24, 2013, which was the date of his last start. THE BRUISE CREW--The Royals continue to lead the American League with 51 hit by pitches..., who has been out nearly three weeks and will remain out for some time due to a left groin strain, is tied for the A.L. lead with 12 plunkings, one more than his previous career high established last year...Mike Moustakas was hit for the ninth and 10th times this year in last Monday night’s game vs. Pittsburgh and has climbed to fourth in the league...last year’s club was hit 53 times, but the 2015 Royals are currently on a pace to get his 85 times, which would be four shy of the club record set in 2007 (89). BUSY STRETCH--The Royals are currently 7-4 through 11 games of this post-All-Star Game stretch of 18 games over a 17-day span...Kansas City’s next off day is slated for a week from today when Kansas City will get a day to relax in Birmingham, MI, between stops in Toronto and Detroit...the Royals still have one other make- up on their agenda, returning to Chicago on Monday, September 28, for a one-night affair in Wrigley Field to thanks to a May 30 storm on the north side...fortunately, KC was already heading to Chi-town for a visit that starts the next night on the south side of town. A ROOM WITH A VIEW--Today marks the 78th day that Kansas City has either shared or stood alone atop the A.L.
