Monthly E-Newsletter by SG 1 to 4 May - Merpati Putih Open 2019

Merpati Putih Open 2019 was held at Gor Ciracas Jakarta Timur on the 1st till the 4th of May, Around 1 615 athletes participated this 4 days event from all over Indonesia. Silat Federeation sent over 22 athletes to participate in this event for both Tanding (Match) and Seni (Artistic) category. The athletes sent were from the junior category and senior too.

Our athletes Aniq Asri Bin Mohd Yazid (Junior Male Class D), Muhammad Rizuan Bin Muhammad Razak (Junior Male Class I) and Abdul Raaziq Bin Abdul Rashid (Senior Male H) managed to grab gold medals. Whereas for Muhammad Syahmi Bin Amranrazali (Junior Male Class E), Muhammad Abu Bakar Bin Hj Jamaluddin (Junior Male Class G) and Muhammad Syakir Bin Jeffry (Senior Male Class G) were silver medalist. Also athletes Nur Tuhfah Izzah Binte Md Roslan (Junior Female Class A), Yusri Bin Mohd Yusoff (Junior Male Class A), Sheik Fayz Bin Sheik Alau'ddin (Junior Male Class I), Nurul Irbah Binte Muhammad Razali (Senior Female Class A), Muhammad Nur Irfan Bin Zaki Lumumba (Senior Male Class E). For the Seni (Artistic) Category, Muhammad Iqbal Bin Abdul Rahman won silver with 445 points under the male single category. As for the female single, Nurzuhairah Binte Mohd Yazid won bronze with 443 points. Golok Day is a festival that has been initiated by 3 to 4 May - Golok Day Himpunan Peguron Persilatan Banten (HPPB) and Ikatan Indonesia (IPSI) . The event 2019 took place at Cilegon, Jakarta from the 3rd to the 4th of May. There were 3 865 registered pesilat from 9 countries and 13 provinces from Indonesia. Among the activities they had were Golok Day Award, Pencak Silat Festival, World Golok Competition, Golok Making and few more. Our artistic athletes Nurzuhairah, Muhammad Iqbal and Nur Azylana Binte Ismail participated in the artistic match organised and won The Most Favourite team.

8 May - Visit by President, Nepal Pencak Silat Federation President of Nepal Pencak Silat Federation spared some of his time to visit our facilities at Heartbeat@Bedok when he was in Singapore.

10 to 12 May - Vovinam Training

Vovinam is a Vietnamese martial art that was founded in 1936 by Nguyen Loc. Vovinam is based on Vietnamese traditional subjects and it involves the use of the hands, elbows, legs, knees and such , knives, chisels, claws and fans.

On the 10 to 12 May, the Vice President of World Vovinam Federation and 2 master from Vovinam Federation visited the Singapore Silat Federation and conducted training session to introduce to the martial art.

32 of our athletes ranging from junior to senior participated in the training. They were thought the basic techniques of the performance, and fighting techniques. On the last day of training, athletes had a mini session too. 11 & 18 May - Briyani Distribution

Collaboration with Kampong Chai Chee Malay Activity Executive Committee (MAEC) to serve the Malay/Muslim community in the Kampong Chai Chee constituency.

As one of the co-locating partners within Heartbeat@Bedok, SG Silat was invited to come on board, and for our national athletes having the chances to contribute and give back to the society by distributing porridge during the fasting month of Ramadhan.

12 May - Porridg e Distribution Working together with TeamSG and Ace the Place CC MAEC, our Silat athletes were invited to join in the Community Outreach in distributing porridge at Ace the Place CC for their residents. 12 May - Heritage Trail

The Kallang Story: A Sports, Arts and Heritage Trail was launched on 12th May in conjunction with Singapore's bicentennial celebrations. The trail marks out the sites of former landmarks in the area, such as the Oasis Theatre restaurant, Wonderland Amusement Park and Gay World Stadium.

Mr.Sheik Alau'ddin was invited as the guest of honour for the opening ceremony. We also had silat performances from our SPEX scholars and silat weapons exhibition.

Walk. It was a 3km walk with a guide explaining on the history around the area.

14 May - Singapore Sports Awards 2019 The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) is the national non-profit organisation that coordinates the selection of Singaporean athletes for competition at the major Games such as the Olympics, the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games and the South East Asian Games. The Singapore Sports Awards were introduced by the Singapore National Olympic Council in 1968 to recognise the finest achievements of our athletes.

The awards are divided to different categorise and one of it is the sportsboy/sportsgirl individual award. Silat athletes recipients for this awards were Aiman Putra Bin Asha Ariffin, Muhammad Shaiman Bin Johanis, Muhammad Syahiran Bin Jeffrey, Nurul Irbah Binte Muhammad Razali, Amirah Binte Sahrin, Sheik Fayz Bin Sheik Alau;ddin, Nurzianah Binte Mohd Yazid and Muhammad Harits Bin Mohd Yusli.

The following category is sportsboy/sportsgirl (event/team) and the team awarded was the Artistic Female Doubles, medalist in the 4th World Junior Pencak Silat Championship, Amirah Binte Sahrin and Siti Fathimah Binte Mohd Shahrem. For the next award which is Meritorious (Event) the recipients were Nurul Syafiqah Binte Mohd Faizul, Nurzuhairah Binte Mohd Yazid and Siti Nazurah Binte Mohd Yusoff whom were also the gold medalist for the 18th World Pencak Silat Championship. Hamillatu Arash Bin Juffrie, Muhammad Nazrul Bin Mohd Kamal from artistic male team were also given the same award.

Meanwhile, for the Meritorious (Individual) category the recipients were Nor Shahidah Binte Abas, Muhammad Iqbal Bin Abdul Rahman, Abdul Raazaq Bin Abdul Rashid, Abdul Raaziq Bin Abdul Rashid, Muhammad Naashiruddiin Bin Khamis, Muhammad Syakir Bin Jeffry, Muhammad Shakir Bin Juanda, Nur Syaza Insyirah Binte Md Roslan, Nurul Shafiqah Binte Mohamed Saiful, Nurul Suhaila Binte Mohd Saiful, Siti Khadijah Binte Mohd Shahrem, Adib Farhan Bin Ramli, Liana Nadhirah Binte Saheid and Sheik Ferdous Bin Sheik Alau'ddin.

Lastly our athlete Muhammad Hazim Bin Mohd Yusli won sportsboy of the year, while Mr.Sheik Alau'ddin Yacoob Marican won the coach of the year.

14 May - ONE Championship Press Conference Singapore Silat Federation was invited to witness the ONE FC Conference, One : Enter the Dragon.

16 May - ONE FC : Nielsen Keynote

What's Next in Global Sports conference had speakers from industry-leading experts and to network with executives across various segments of sports business. It was held at Marina Bay Sands.

16 May - Itar at Indonesian Embassy

Singapore Silat Federation's Foreign Coaches who are from different provinces in Indonesia got the chance to accept the invitation from the Indonesian Embassy for Iftar.

Together with Mr. Sheik Alau'ddin Yacoob Marican, PBM, CEO of Singapore Silat Federation, our National Coaches attended the Iftar which was held at RIPTA Loka Hall, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia at 7pm.

19 May - Itar at Ace the Place CC

Mr. Sheik Alau'ddin Yacoob Marican, CEO of Singapore Silat Federation, together with his family was invited to join the break fast organized by Ace the Place CC. Joining in the break fast was Mr. Vikram Nair (Grassroot Adviser, MP for Sembawang GRC - Admiralty). 22 May - Filming with Odazzit

Filming day for our TeamSG Silat together with Odazzit crew in promoting the sport! The athletes and coaches were having a great time filming with them.

23 May - Interview & Filming with BBC News

Our SPEX Scholars; Nur Zuhairah Mohd Yazid and Sheik Ferdous Sheik Alau'ddin was invited by SportSG Media Relations Team to be featured in the BBC News - sharing about the challenges and rewards of training throughout Ramadhan. 24 May - Itar with children from Pertapis National athlete Sheik Ferdous Sheik Alau'ddin was invited by Project Dragon Heart (HDB Dragon Boat Team) at Club HDB, Nexus Toa Payoh, to break fast with the PERTAPIS residents.

He was asked to give a motivational talk and share on how he started Silat and the path he has to go through, some of the advice he gave was "never give up in anything you do in life".

26 May - Singapore Coaching the Kazakhstan Silat Team

Singapore Silat Federation shared one of its coach to be station in Aktobe, Karaganda, and Almaty to train the Kazakhstan Silat Team for a period of a month from 24 April till 26 May 2019.

27 May - Breaking Fast in Mormons The Chief of SG Silat was invited by Dr. Mohd Hasbi Abu Bakar, President of Jamiyah Singapore to join the break fast with their Mormon counterparts. Some seven-hundred (yes, you read it right, 700!) guests comprising of various leaders of faith, community leaders, and diplomats attended the event.

For the first time event, the break fast was held in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS). It is the first interfaith community event of its kind in Singapore.

That is one of the greatest milestone for Singapore Silat Federation when we have our own training ground, a place where we can call home for the Singapore Pencak Silat National Athlete.

The place is equipped with office, training ground, and gym. 25 May - Welcoming Perguruan Sendeng Seturut on board to SGSilat

Perguruan Sendeng Seturut which is led by Mr. Isnin Bin Amat is officially certified and registered their membership with Singapore Silat Federation!

They are actively conducting their Silat class at Macpherson Community Club.

We definitely is looking forward to work with them, together with all other local Silat clubs! The Team Bonding Activity was 26 May - Team Bonding organized by five students - Amin Activity for Junior Athletes Ismail, P. Santhosh, Syed Asyraf, Siti Nazurah Mohd Yusoff (who is one of our National Athlete), Amsyar Haziq, and Nicholas Fiath, from Sport Management in ITE College Central, where they were tasked with a project based on the module they are currently studying - Community Activity and Recreation Programme Development.

The team bonding activity was held on; Date: 25 May 2019, Saturday Time: 4.30pm - 7.30pm Venue: OCBC Arena Hall 4

The activities consist of; a Ball, Blindfold Obstacle, Actions with Name, Dragon Match, SPLAT, Even though it is the fasting month, the Junior athlete sure had and Broken Telephone. fun and join in the activities with their up-lifted spirits and energy. 28 May - SGSilat Staff having Itar Together

Despite the tight schedule, and hectic day in running the federation, the administrative Staff and Coaches had their own Iftar together at Aquamarine, Marina Mandarin Hotel on 27 May 2019.

It is difficult to get everyone to sit and dine together, usually when we sit together it is only during our Staff Meeting (^_^") 30 May - Official Launching of The Singapore Bicentennial 2019

From Singapore to Singaporean. The project in 2019 is marking the 200th anniversary of Sir Stamford Raffles' arrival in Singapore - a key milestone in our rich and storied history.

The project was officially launch by the President of the Republic of Singapore - Madam Halimah Yacob on 30th May 2019.

Singapore Silat Federation was honored when we were approached to The show is ongoing from 1st June till 15th September be part of the project. 31 May - Learning Horizon Program for pre-school kids!

We had our silat programme for a pre-school camp by Learning Horizon at Heartbeat @ Bedok . We had around 100 kids from different pre-school learning silat. The program was around 10am to 12pm.

They were taught sikap pasang, kicking technique, stances and punching techniques by our national athletes and coaches.

With the smiles and giggling, we are sure that the kids had a great time with us!

Another session will be held for the second group on 14 June 2019, we are looking forward to show them our steps!

31 May - 2nd Korean On the 31 May, our national athletes flew out to South Korea for the 2nd Korean International Pencak Silat International Pencak Silat Championship.

Championship On the first day the match results were;

Match 5: Male Junior (QF) Aniq Asri VS Yu Joon-Hee (Korea) won 5-0

Match 19: Male Junior (SF) Yusri VS An In-Seo (Korea) won 5-0

Match 20: Male Junior (SF) Aniq Asri VS Park Ahn- Jhun won 5-0

Match 25: Female Senior (SF) Nadhrah Sahrin VS Lee Yun-Jin (Korea) lose 4-1
