Anderson Adventist Primary School is committed to using educational technology to improve further the learning experiences and achievements of all our learners. iPad technology provides us with opportunities to inspire and motivate our young people to achieve their full potential and engage them fully in their learning. We believe that the use of an iPad will enhance everyday learning and teaching and in particular will:

 Raise educational attainment  Create a learner centred curriculum which will provide engaging learner oriented lessons  Enable learners access to the most up to date educational resources  Raise levels of engagement, motivation and interaction  Improve facilitation of different learning styles  Promote remote learning  Improve self-management  Promote learner welfare by reducing learner bag weight. We approve the use of an authorised Apple iPad in a manner consistent with the established learning and teaching objectives of Anderson and we recognise and encourage the use of the iPad at school and at home to promote remote learning.

This policy applies to all learner users of iPad hardware and software technology at

Anderson Adventist Primary School.

Due to the changeable nature of information and communications technology this policy will undergo periodic review and as such the school reserves the right to amend any sections or wording at any time.

Anderson Adventist Primary School is operating on a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). The learner is to bring their own device for use at school.

Anderson Adventist Primary will have full supervision of all iPads used at school and in particular:

 ANY LEARNERS WHO USE AN IPAD IN THE SCHOOL MUST SIGN UP

AND ADHERE TO THE TERMS STATED IN THIS POLICY .

 A learner will not be permitted to use an iPad at school unless they have completed

and returned this agreement.

 A learner will not permitted to use an iPad at school if the iPad does not have a

protective case and a tempered screen glass.

 The school retains ownership of all applications

 The school owns the right to manage all iPad devices

 The school will provide all required components to ensure the iPad operates

effectively in the , including Wi-Fi access.

 The school maintains the right to filter Internet content and manage the use and

connectivity of iPad to the school network.

 Learners will not be permitted to use an iPad in school unless it has been configured

for use in the school

 The School disclaim all responsibility for damage to iPads that are brought into

school and are left unattended or do not meet with the regulations of the school or

this policy.

Parents/Guardians must insure iPads for their replacement value, either by specialised iPad insurance or generic household policies

. iPads are intended for use at school each day. In addition to teacher

expectations for iPad use, school , announcements, planners, calendars and

schedules may be accessed using the iPad. Therefore, learners are responsible for

bringing their iPad, fully charged, to all classes each day.

. Learners should not lend or share their allocated iPad with other learners

unless expressly asked to do so by a teacher in a classroom situation.

. If learners leave their iPad at home, they are responsible for getting any

assignments or coursework completed as if they had their iPad present. Spare iPads

will not be available to learners who forget to bring their iPad to school or who fail to

charge their iPad.

. If the iPad is damaged or lost the learner should immediately report to the class

teacher.

At all times, the class teacher’s decision is final regarding use, or non-use of any iPad, collectively or individually PHOTOGRAPHS AND IMAGES (STILL AND MOVING) Photographs/Images stored on the iPad will be in accordance with the school’s Use of Computers and the Internet Policy. The school reserves the right to randomly check any iPad for unsuitable content.

No images or video material taken in school may be uploaded from any device to social networking sites unless asked to do so by a teacher as part of schoolwork. Recording, photographing or filming of classroom teachers is prohibited unless specifically permitted by the class teacher

SOUND, MUSIC, GAMES, OR APPLICATIONS Sound must be muted at all times unless permission is obtained from the teacher for instructional purposes. Gaming on iPads whilst in school is strictly prohibited at all times. Applications on iPads must not violate any terms of this policy or the school’s Use of Computers and the Internet Policy. Applications provided by the school for school use remain the property of school at all times.

Learners are not permitted to access the internet via their own mobile connection 3G/4G functionality (or otherwise/ personal hot spotting) as this is unmonitored and unfiltered access. The school is not responsible for any material accessed by a learner in this manner.

HOME INTERNET ACCESS/IPAD USE Learners are allowed to use their iPads at home for schoolwork and set up wireless networks on their iPads to assist them with homework’s, coursework etc. It is the responsibility of the Parent/Guardian to monitor and oversee iPad use within the home setting.

MANAGING YOUR FILES AND SAVING YOUR WORK It is the learner’s responsibility to ensure that work is not lost due to mechanical failure or accidental deletion. iPad malfunctions are not an acceptable excuse for not submitting work. Learners will be guided through the creation, maintenance of backups and the use of Cloud accounts on the iPad. Learners will be responsible for backing up on a regular basis.

SOFTWARE ON IPADS The School will provide software on iPads necessary for schoolwork. The Software/Apps originally installed by the school must remain on the iPad in usable condition and be easily accessible at all times. From time to time the school may add or modify software applications for use in a particular subject.

The school monitors all Applications that are added and may be flagged if inappropriate Applications are added. Periodic checks of iPads will be made to ensure that learners have not removed required Applications.

INSPECTION Learners may be selected at random to provide their iPad for inspection so they comply with the iPad Policy as well as the Use of Computers / Internet Policy.

GENERAL PRECAUTIONS

 ■ Only use a soft, dry cloth or anti-static cloth to clean the screen, no cleansers of any

type.

 ■ Cords and cables must be inserted carefully into the iPad to prevent damage.

 ■ iPads must remain free of any writing, drawing, stickers, or labels that are affixed

 ■ iPads must never be left in any unsupervised area.

 ■ iPads should never be left in an extremely cold or hot environment.

 ■ iPads must always be within their protective case

 ■ Do not lean on the top of the iPad at any time

 ■ iPads must be in an approved protective case or in the case .

 ■ Backpacks that hold other objects (such as folders and textbooks), should not be

used to carry iPads to avoid placing too much pressure and weight on the iPad screen

 ■ Do not place anything in the carrying case that will press against the cover/screen.

 ■ Do not “bump” the iPad against lockers, walls, car doors, etc, or drop on the floor.

■ Learners will be held responsible for maintaining their individual iPads and keeping them in good working order. PASSWORDS AND APPLE ID

Learners are expected to take reasonable measures to secure access to the iPad by using a password.

LEARNERS MUST NOT ATTEMPT TO ACCESS OTHER LEARNER’s IPADS BY ‘GUESSING’ OR TRIAL AND ERROR PASSWORD ATTEMPTS

Learners are prohibited from removing the password from the device or sharing this password with anyone else except their parents or as requested by a designated member of staff. .

School assigned Apple ID’s should not be used on other personal or home Apple devices and are for use only on school iPads

Learners will be responsible for damages, repair of their iPads including, but not limited to, broken screens, cracked plastic pieces, inoperability, etc. Depending on the damage and whether or not the damage was accidental or due to a malfunction of maintenance issue.

When a learner realises that their iPad has been damaged or not operating properly they must:

1. Report Immediately to their class teacher

2. The class teacher will assess the state of the device and report it to the Administration

3. The Administration will assess the state of the device and inform the Parent.

4. The School will provide necessary advice and recommendations to the parent on

repair or replacement.

IPAD SECURITY

Each class is furnished with an iPad Locker Cabinet and the learner must leave the iPad in the Locker when leaving the classroom for any outdoor activity. All iPads confiscated or requested by the administration will be kept in the iPad Vault. The iPad must always have the “Find my iPad” Application always active. The security of the iPad at Home is the responsibility of the parent/ guardian.

Learners are expected to use computers and the Internet as an educational resource. The following procedures and guidelines govern the use of computers and the Internet at school.

I. Learner Expectations in the Use of the Internet A. Acceptable Use 1. Learners may use the Internet to conduct research assigned by teachers. 2. Learners may use the Internet to conduct research for classroom projects. 3. Learners may use the Internet to gain access to information about current events. 4. Learners may use the Internet to conduct research for school-related activities. 5. Learners may use the Internet for appropriate educational purposes.

B. Unacceptable Use 1. Learners shall not use school computers to gain access to material that is obscene, pornographic, harmful to minors, or otherwise inappropriate for educational uses.

2. Learners shall not engage in any illegal or inappropriate activities on school computers, including the downloading and copying of copyrighted material.

3. Learners shall not use electronic mail, chat rooms, instant messaging, or other forms of direct electronic communications on school computers.

4. Learners shall not use school computers to participate in on-line auctions, on-line gaming or mp3 sharing systems including, but not limited to Aimster or Freenet and the like.

5. Learners shall not disclose personal information, such as their names, school, addresses, or telephone outside the school network.

6. Learners shall not use school computers for commercial advertising or political advocacy of any kind without the express written permission of the system administrator.

7. Learners shall not publish web that purport to represent the school district or the work of learners at the school district without the express written permission of the system administrator.

9. Learners shall not share their passwords with fellow learners, school volunteers or any other individuals, and shall not use, or try to discover, another user’s password.

10. Learners shall not copy, change or transfer any software or documentation provided by the school district, teachers or another learner without permission from the system administrator.

11. Learners shall not write, produce, generate, copy, propagate or attempt to introduce any computer code designed to self-replicate, damage, or otherwise hinder the performance of any computer’s memory, file system, or software. Such software is often called, but is not limited to, a bug, virus, worm, or Trojan Horse.

12. Learners shall not configure or troubleshoot computers, networks, printers or other associated equipment, except as directed by a teacher or the system administrator. Learners shall not take home technology equipment (hardware or software) without permission of the system administrator.

13. Learners shall not forge electronic mail messages or web pages

ACCEPTABLE USE OF COMPUTERS The School permits use of the computer in a manner that supports the School’s aims and objectives and is in line with all School Policies.

This policy is provided to make all users aware of the responsibilities associated with efficient, ethical, and lawful use of technology resources. If a person violates any of the user terms and conditions named in this policy, privileges may be terminated, access to the

School’s network may be denied, and the appropriate disciplinary action shall be applied

Parents are expected to talk to their children about the values and standards that they should follow on the use of the Internet just as they do on the use of all media information sources such as television, telephones, movies, radio, iBooks etc.

Parents are expected to:

 ensure that their child keeps their mobile device safe and uses them in accordance

with the school procedures outlined above.

 ensure that their child uses their device in accordance with school policies:

 allow their son/daughter to use their iPad at home to assist them with homework,

coursework etc.

 to monitor and oversee iPad use within the home setting.

 to ensure their son/ daughter’s online safety by supporting the guidance provided by

PARENTS AND LEARNERS SHOULD FAMILIARISE THEMSELVES WITH THE

DETAILS OF ANY IPAD INSURANCE PLAN IN CASE OF ACCIDENTS, THEFT

OR MISUSE.

LEARNER ACTIVITIES SPECIFICALLY PROHIBITED Learners are not permitted to:

1. Illegally install or transmit copyrighted materials. 2. Lend their iPad to anyone else unless specifically asked by a teacher 3. Change iPad settings (exceptions include personal settings such as font size, brightness, etc.). 4. ‘Jailbreak’ their iPad. 5. Download vault or ghost apps to keep content hidden 6. Use or access another learner’s iPad. 7. Leave their device on the School premises overnight. 8. Attempt to modify, upgrade or repair iPads issued under this policy. 9. Send or display offensive messages or material. 10. Use obscene language or content. 11. Damage to IOS, devices, computer systems or computer networks. 12. Use other people’s passwords 13. Trespass in others’ folders, works or files. 14. Download illegal content or material that is suspicious. 15. Upload any photo or video content taken in school to any social networking sites. 16. Access their iPad on the corridors at breaktime or lunchtime. 17. Messaging services and chat rooms (i.e.: Messenger, Skype, iMessage, Facetime, Whatsapp,IMO, SnapChat, We Chat etc.) are strictly prohibited unless authorised to do so by a teacher. 18. Bypassing the Anderson Adventist Primary’s web filter through a web proxy

We expect our staff to:

 Keep a record of iPads within their classroom.

 Report any damage or act of misuse to the administration.

 Carry out regular inspection of the contents of the iPad.

 Use the iPad in the classroom to enhance the teaching and learning experiences for

their learners.

 Provide staff guidance to aid learners in doing research and help ensure learner

compliance of the acceptable use policy.

 Follow relevant policies and procedures.

 To be role models, display good practice and provide leadership in the use of these

devices.

LEGAL PROPRIETY

 Learners should comply with trademark and copyright laws and all license agreements. Ignorance of the law is not immunity. If a learner is unsure, he should ask a teacher or parent.  Use or possession of hacking software is strictly prohibited. Violation of the law may result in criminal prosecution or disciplinary action.  Parents/Guardians should be mindful of personal information stored by learners in the iPads e.g. credit card/bank details/photographs. The school will not accept responsibility for personal data that learner’s store. We assure you that we comply with the principles of the Data Protection Act; we will process data lawfully and fairly and any data held will be kept secure and safe within our managed system.

Any learner who persistently refuses to co-operate or violates any aspect of the provisions of the iPad Policy may face other disciplinary action deemed appropriate.

Violations may result in disciplinary action up to and including suspension/expulsion for learners. When applicable, law enforcement agencies may be involved.

Learner iPad checks can be conducted by any member of staff at any time during the school day. These can be random and unannounced spot checks. A learner will be required to hand over their iPad to a member of staff if:

 They have been using their iPad in an inappropriate manner identified in the

list above.

 There is a suspicion that the iPad has unsuitable content or material stored on it;

 Forbidden software or applications have been downloaded on the device;

 A learner has disrupted a lesson through improper use of an iPad;

 A learner has misused their iPad to take photographs/video on the school

premises which they have not received permission to do;

 The iPad or any of its features has been used for any form of bullying;

 Games are being played on the iPad in school time;

 The iPad has been used to breach any school rule/policy and general well-being of

staff and learners.

 ■ I will never loan out my iPad to other individuals.  ■ I will keep the iPad within its case at all times and will not remove the Tempered Screen Glass.  ■ I will know where my iPad is at all times.  ■ I will charge my iPad’s battery daily.  ■ I will keep food and beverages away from my iPad.  ■ I will not disassemble any part of my iPad or attempt any repairs.  ■ I will use my iPad in ways that are appropriate, meet Anderson Adventist Primary expectations  ■ I will not place decorations (such as stickers, markers, etc.) on the iPad. I will not deface the serial number iPad sticker on any iPad.  ■ I understand that my iPad is subject to inspection at any time without notice and remains the property of Anderson Adventist Primary School.  ■ I will follow the policies outlined in the Learner iPad Usage Guide while at school, as well as outside the school day.  ■ I will report immediately to the teacher in case of theft, vandalism, and other acts covered by insurance.  ■ I will be responsible for all damage or loss caused by neglect or abuse.  ■ I agree that I will not sign into my own iTunes account on my iPad
