Karl ‘Mg x Nuclear’ Caslib @MgxNuclear Canadian Winner – #3 Seed at World Final Karl Caslib, who plays under the gamertag Mg x Nuclear, is a 22-year-old from Vancouver, B.C. He admits to having never played ice hockey, but describes his style as more offensive than defensive-minded, compiling an online HUT record of 530-36-6. Caslib amassed a record of 6-2 in the Canadian Regional Final. A casino table games dealer in Vancouver, Nuclear is familiar with facing high-pressure situations with large outcome stakes. Whether he is winning or losing, he acknowledges that his ability to stay relaxed and calm during matches is a credit to his casino profession. Some say he may be the most comfortable in Las Vegas for the World Final, and his casino background may give him a slight advantage. Nuclear plans to study criminology next year and hopes to take his parents and brother to the World Final to cheer him on. Throughout the GWC Regional, Caslib played his matches with his hometown Vancouver Canucks, but also plays with the San Jose Sharks on occasion. He lists Patrik Laine of the Winnipeg Jets as the one player he would love to play EA SPORTS™ NHL®19 against. A fan of the New Jersey Devils, he lists his favorite player as Devils forward Taylor Hall and his childhood hockey idol as Devils legend Martin Brodeur. Caslib’s most memorable hockey moment came in Game 6 of the 2012 NHL Eastern Conference Final, when Adam Henrique’s goal at 1:03 of overtime eliminated the New York Rangers and sent the Devils to the Stanley Cup® Final against the Los Angeles Kings. Last year's grade 7 and 8 students put forth a great deal of effort campaigning friends and family members to join Turnbull's annual NHL hockey pool, raising a total of $1750 for a charity of their choice (the United Way). However, just because the pandemic put the rest of the world on pause, the need for support and funding for homeless and at-risk Canadians did not stop. In fact, it is only growing. For homeless and at-risk Canadians, the realities of the novel coronavirus are much different. They are at a much higher risk of contracting infections, chronic illnesses or compromised immune systems, making them extremely vulnerable to the virus and many lack the access to the supplies and infrastructure needed to maintain their health. Shelters and front-line workers working through the pandemic are in desperate need of funds since COVID-19 has put a tight strain on their budget and resources. They face an increase in demand from their clients, and a decrease in charitable giving from sponsors and their donors. Even though we are currently unable to host tournaments, everyone at HHTH still wanted to find a way to help. In order to do so, we teamed up with Bardown Hockey to create an exclusive, limited edition clothing line called “Stay The Puck Home” to support Canada’s homeless. 100% of net proceeds from the sale of the $25 t-shirts and $50 hoodies went to our charity partners from coast-to-coast.

Last Wednesday, NHL Central Scouting rated Hall second overall in their final rankings, behind slick centre Tyler Seguin of the Ontario Hockey League’s Plymouth Whalers, after both players shared the league’s scoring title with 106 points. He didn’t even glance at a group of New York Islanders swarming forward Matt Martin to celebrate their fifth goal Thursday night. Dahlin, now a 20-year-old defenseman and 164 games into a National Hockey League career that began with his selection first overall at the 2018 draft, skated toward the Buffalo Sabres’ bench and used his right hand to lift his stick in the air to signal for a line change. Martin, a fourth-line grinder known more for his right hook than scoring touch, had just skated by Dahlin and across the front of the Sabres’ net before jamming the puck past goalie Jonas Johansson to seal the Islanders' 5- 2 win. In years past, Dahlin’s frustration might have boiled over. One of the NHL’s bright young defensemen, Dahlin has grown accustomed to the sometimes overwhelming emotion that comes with failure. He’s experienced more than his fair share during his third season in the NHL.
