Haute Route Verbier-Zermatt EN Ski Touring – Haute Route Verbier - Zermatt – 5 days Day 1: Verbier – Prafleuri Hut We start from Verbier taking the cable car, then skin up to the Col de la Chaux. After a short descent, we climb up to the Rosablanche, a summit towering above the Val de Bagnes at 3,337m. Descent to the Prafleuri hut (2,935m). Day 2: Prafleuri Hut - Cabane des Dix Transition day towards some of the most scenic summits of the Alps. Ascent to the Col des Roux (2,804m), then traverse along the Lac des Dix and final ascent to the hut of the same name (2,928m). Overnight stay at the foot of Mont-Blanc de Cheillon. Day 3: Ascent of the Pigne d'Arolla Climb up to a highpoint in the heart of the Alps, the Pigne d'Arolla, culminating at 3,790m. Descent to the Vignettes Hut (3,160m). Day 4: Vignettes Hut – Bertol Hut Traverse over the col de L'Evêque (3,386m), then descent onto the high glacier of Arolla. Ascent to the Bertol hut (3,311m), from where we have a great view of the majestic Dent-Blanche. Day 5: Bertol Hut – Zermatt The last day is the most rewarding of the Haute Route, with the ascent of the Tête Blanche (3,724m) and the seigneurs des Alpes. Final descent below the impressive North Face of the Dent d'Hérens and the Matterhorn. Return to Zermatt, back to civilisation. Yves Paternot was an emblematic figure of the Verbier Festival; he was founder of the Friends of the Verbier Festival and member of the Foundation’s Board. In tribute to his commitment, the Prix Yves Paternot recognises the Academy’s most accomplished musician. The recipient is awarded CHF 10,000, an invitation to return to Verbier in a future year to perform in the Festival and is eligible for a contribution of up to CHF 15,000 to support his or her artistic and professional development. Sungho Kim studied at the Korea National University of Arts with Kwangsun Song and at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin with Ewa Wolak and Julia Varady. He was the First Prize winner at the Korea National Singing Competition in Seoul and the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna, both in 2018, and, in 2020 was a Finalist of the Glyndebourne Cup. He joined the ensemble of Theater Dortmund in 2020/21, and was previously a member of the Staatsoper Hamburg’s Opera Studio. Kim delivered an emotional performance this afternoon in the role of Rodolfo for the performance of Puccini’s La Bohème. He prepared for the role during his time at the Academy, working with a distinguished faculty that included singers Barbara Frittoli, and Thomas Hampson, actor James Garnon, and Atelier Lyrique Opera Programme Head, Caroline Dowdle.

    Haute Route Itinerary : 1 Week Route Day 1 – Arrival Day Arrival day at your chalet in Argentière where you will meet your group and your guide who will brief you about the itinerary, the weather and conditions. You can check with your guide if you have all the equipment required and ask any questions. You can then all get to know each other over dinner followed by an early night in readiness for your first day of trekking. Day 2 - Argentière to Albert 1er Hut A lift from Le Tour and a short hike will take you to the Albert 1er hut at 2720m. You will practice crampon and ice axe techniques in the afternoon and spend your first night of the trek in the hut. Day 3 - Albert 1er to Champex Hike up to the Col Superior du Tour (3289m) and down to the Cabane d’Orny in Switzerland, where you take a lift down to Champex. The night is spent in a gîte with dormitory-style accommodation. Day 4 - Champex to Chanrion From Champex we take a taxi transfer to Mauvoisin and hike up to the Col Tsofeiret at 2642m. From here we make a short descent to the Chanrion hut at 2432m for the night. Day 5 - Chanrion to Vignettes Hike up to and across the Otemma glacier, a spectacular trek with dramatic views of the Valais Alps. We sleep at the Vignettes hut (3160m).
