Unlike a textbook, which surveys the state of knowledge in a field, Maharashtra, India the main purpose of a monograph is to present primary research and original scholarship. The difficulty associated with development of herbal monograph is that the availability of huge diversity related herbal Tukaram Namdev Mane plant. For this study sample was collected from three different places at different seasons i.e. rainy season P.G. Student, Department of winter season, summer season. This parameters was studied, macroscopic, microscopic study, Quality Assurance, Appasaheb organoleptic evaluation, phytochemical tests, chemical variation study was done, alkaloids, flavonoids, Birnale College of Pharmacy, glycosides, saponins. Yadav, Manju Panghal Department of Genetics, M.D. University, Rohtak - 124 001, Haryana, India Balanites aegyptiaca is an evergreen, woody, true xerophytic tree of tremendous medicinal importance. It belongs to the family Balanitaceae and is distributed throughout the drier parts of India. B. aegyptiaca has been used in a variety of folk medicines in India EVIEW and Asia. Various parts of the plant are used in Ayurvedic and other folk medicines for the treatment of different ailments such as R syphilis, jaundice, liver and spleen problems, epilepsy, yellow fever and the plant also has insecticidal, antihelminthic, antifeedant, molluscicidal and contraceptive activities. Research has been carried out using different in vitro and in vivo techniques of biological evaluation to support most of these claims. -

Ethnobotany and Conservation Status of Saponin Rich Plants of Gangetic Plain Having Both Medicinal and Cleansing Properties

Government Degree College Campierganj, Gorakhpur Abstract The potential cleansing plant genetic resources of India are investigated about 108 species. These plant species mostly contain saponins which may be harmful or beneficial to health. In present paper the plants having saponins with medicinal and cleansing values are investigated from the Gangetic plain. With a wide range of climatic conditions from the torrid to the arctic, India has rich and varied vegetation. India can be divided into eight distinct–floristic-regions, namely, the Western Himalayas, Assam, the Indus plain, the Ganga plain, the Deccan, Malabar, Western Ghats and the Anadanams. The area of Gangetic plain is approximately to 196000 square miles. Key words: saponins, Gangetic plain, cleansing and medicinal properties. Introduction from India (given with the mode of use of the species) A few reports on soap, shampoo and detergent use are available in literature. Present search reveals that of plants are available from India. Agarwal (1986) there are about 108 species of plants with potential recorded 28 species of plants used for washing clothes cleaning properties belonging to 87 genera and 52 families and cleaning body and hai in India; Jain (1991) noted the of vascular plants in India. These include 25 species of uses of 13 plant species of India as detergent and indigenous cultivated plants with available wild forms, 31 shampoo; Mal & Joshi (1991) reported three less-known species of introduced plants and exotic weeds and 51 plants with cleaning property; Banerjee & Pal (1996) species of exclusively wild plants, including 10 species of noted 4 species used as soap and shampoo by the tribes wild relatives of cultivated plants. -

The aim of present study is to evaluate the physico-chemical properties and the fatty acid composition of Balanites roxburghii seed oil from the arid zone of Rajasthan. American Oil Chemists' Society (AOCS) method has been used for determination of physico-chemical properties. The oil content range varied from 40.0 to 42.1% and protein content were found to be 26.4% in kernel. High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analysis of fatty acid phenacyl esters showed the presence of palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic acids as major fatty acids. The findings of this study evaluate structural elucidation of bio-diesel formation from Balanites roxburghii seed oil of arid zone of Rajasthan. We have limited land and water resources; therefore need to develop all these resources carefully. Nearly one billion hectares of arid and semiarid areas of the world are salt-affected and remain barren. These soils are universally low in fertility and not suitable for conventional agricultural use. Irrigation without adequate drainage is leading to waterlogging and secondary salinization. Further, in most of these regions, the groundwater aquifers are saline. Usually cultivation of conventional arable crops with saline irrigation has not been sustainable. To bring these wastelands under sustainable productive system and use poor-quality waters judiciously in agriculture, we need to evolve innovative technologies and domesticate stress tolerant halophytes of high economic value. Further, saline agroforestry needs to be given preference as salt-tolerant forest and fruit trees, forage grasses, medicinal and aromatic and other non-conventional crops can be equally remunerative. In coastal areas, mangrove-based aquaculture needs to be developed. The littoral vegetation not only protects the shores and provides wood for fuel, fodder, thatching material, and honey for coastal population but also creates substratum, which provides shelter to a variety of animals. -

(Zygophyllaceae), known as ‘desert date,’ is spiny shrub or tree up to l0 m tall, widely distributed in dry land areas of Africa and South Asia. It is traditionally used in treatment of various ailments i.e. jaundice, intestinal worm infection, wounds, malaria, syphilis, epilepsy, dysentery, constipation, diarrhea, hemorrhoid, stomach aches, asthma, and fever. It contains protein, lipid, carbohydrate, alkaloid, saponin, flavonoid, and organic acid. Present review summarizes the traditional claims, phytochemistry, and pharmacology of B. aegyptiaca Del reported in scientific literature. Key words: Balanites aegyptiaca, Balanitin, desert date INTRODUCTION Family : Zygophyllaceae Genus : Balanites Delile Balanites aegyptiaca Del., also known as ‘Desert date’ in English, Species : Balanites aegyptiaca (L.) Delile a member of the family Zygophyllaceae, is one of the most common but neglected wild plant species of the dry land areas Synonyms: Ximenia aegyptiaca L. (excl. Balanites roxburghii Planch), of Africa and South Asia.[1,2] This tree is native to much of Africa Agialida senegalensis van Tiegh., Agialida barteri van Tiegh., Agialida and parts of the Middle East. In India, it is particularly found tombuctensis van Tiegh., Balanites ziziphoides Milbr. Et Schlechter, [3] in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Deccan. This is Balanites latifolia (van Tiegh.) Chiov. one of the most common trees in Senegal.[4-7] It can be found in many kinds of habitat, tolerating a wide variety of soil types, Vernacular name: from sand to heavy clay, and climatic moisture levels [Figure 1]. -

Authors documented a total of 604 plant species belonging to 399 genera and 92 families were present in the study area. Out of 604; 460 species are medicinally important. These plant species are used for the treatment of such ailments as Diabetes, Rheumatism, Jaundice, Fever, Cold, Cough and Cardiac problems. The full results of our study are organized in table form and include the species botanical name, parts used, medicinal properties and the local or vernacular names of the species. Bulbils Introduction The ferns and their allies share a lot of commom morphlogy with the other vascular plants and in many cases the same descriptive terminology is used. However, there are some fundamental and significant differences of structure unique to the pteridophytes and a specialized terminology has evolved to descdribe these. The most obvious difference between the pteridophytes and the remainder of the vascular plants is that the ferns and their allies do not produce large floral or reproductive structures that give rise to seeds which eventually develop into the next generation of plants. Pteridophytes reproduce and disperse by means of microscopic spores, the structure and development of which is every bit as intricate and amazing as the flowers of the higher plants. This outline covers the easily recognised features of the ferns and their alies and mentions many of the technical terms used to describe them. -
