Between co-parenting with hilarious dentist ex-husband Brock and his dotty new wife Barbra Jean his dental Reba: My Story to helping her three wise-cracking, dynamic kids navigate their new life, Reba has her hands full. Reba is the Reba: My Story mix of Southern sweet and sass. Written by Meg K from NJ!! It took me a good 3 years of convincing to even give it a try and, low and beyond I was pleasantly surprised. McEntire plays Reba Hart, mother of 3 in the TV-neglected city of Houston, whose life is thrown into chaos when her husband Brock Christopher Rich, "Murphy Brown" has an affair with Barbra Jean Melissa Peterman and the resulting divorce coincides with her oldest daughter, Cheyenne Joanna Garcia, "Freaks and Geeks" becoming pregnant and her baby and new husband Van Steve Howey being forced to move in with mom. When "Reba" begins we are pretty much thrown clear from all the angst and drama that the show's back-story involves. In true impossible sitcom fashion Brock and Barbra Jean have moved in next door to Reba and hilarity ensues. It has shaved the bitterness and edge off of Brett Butler's gutsy spousal abuse sitcom and it is an even funnier and more pleasing show because of it. TV does a lot to trivialize the impact of divorce, and though it might seem like that on the page, "Reba" doesn't do that. It is certainly "sitcom-ized", but the nuggets of truth behind all the one-liners feel authentic. Like the best family sitcoms, "Reba" uses silly typical sitcom premises only to peel them back and use them to Reba: My Story into a deeper character issue underneath. Rarely have I seen a family sitcom handle children of divorce, male depression, teen pregnancy and a woman over 40 dating with such intelligence and insight. But the tone is still kept light and upbeat. No Very Special Episodes here. The Reba: My Story is surprisingly sharp and the bits are multi-layered and steeped in a respect for the characters. At the center of the series is the back-and-forth between Reba and Barbra Jean, which is basically a classic rivalry of Reba hurling insults and Barbra Jean not picking them up. Peterman, embodying the proverbial bull in a china shop, chews up the scenery big time in a very funny way. This is good work by all involved, also including deadpan funny deliveries from Rich and Scarlett Pomers as Reba's neglected middle- child Kyra who gets all the best one-liners. But who knew that Reba McEntire was such a natural comic actress? Her delivery and comic timing is top-of-the-line for the genre. Seasons span entire story arcs: Kyra moves out, Brock's mid-life crisis, Van's football career, Brock and Barbra Jean break-up. I dig the way the show fleshes out the characters, even Brock isn't confined to "deadbeat husband" status, but walks the line that keeps us Reba: My Story completely liking them. The worst thing that could happen to Reba would Reba: My Story to have her and Barbra Jean truly become friends. Aside from Reba: My Story fact that it would ruin the show's dynamic, it would be insulting unrealistic. It comes close, Reba: My Story the show doesn't hold it for long. In the 5th season the show hits a stride, Reba: My Story out of its own domestic drama and having a little fun with real world issues like zero tolerance, sodas in school and Hurricane Katrina evacuees in Houston. Judging it in the genre, if "8 Simple Rules" and "George Lopez" are 3-star shows, than "Reba" is much better. In fact, it is the best family sitcom on TV today. Insightful and genuinely funny without being at all crass. Hey, look at that, it can Reba: My Story done. Looking for some great streaming picks? From her childhood in Oklahoma working cattle with her ranching family to her Reba: My Story on the rodeo competition circuit, from her early days as a performer in honky-tonks to her many Reba: My Story and a sold-out appearance at Carnegie Hall, Reba relates her experiences with heartfelt emotion Reba: My Story down-to-earth humor. With the same warmth and generous spirit that infuses her music, she introduces us to the most important Reba: My Story in her life: the family and friends who sustain her and the musicians and producers who have inspired her and helped her realize her artistic vision. With great poignancy, she also recounts the lowest points of her life, the breakup of her first marriage and the plane crash that took the lives of eight of her band members; and the highest, her remarriage and the birth of her son Shelby. Her story is not only a chronicle of a remarkable life but a vivid testament of unshakable determination and faith in God. NOTE: This edition does not include a photo insert. I grew up listening to her so the idea of finding out more of her life Reba: My Story lovely. There was a lot I discovered in reading this book, especially about her younger years. Reba: My Story had a tough childhood, but not a bad one. I never realized how slow a rise to prominence she had. Reba: My Story as I was growing up as she was hitting her stride it didn't occur to me as a child to think that she'd had years beforehand working towards her Reba: My Story. But I will say I do remember very clearly when the tragedy stuck her band. I Reba: My Story imagine how devastating that could have been and reading through it from her perspective was hard. I'm very impressed with her as a woman and as a business woman. She took control of her career, she fought for everything she had. I really enjoyed this story and left with even more respect for the woman that Reba is. I love when u read a memoir and you feel like the person you read about is sitting next to you telling the story instead of just reading it. This one was like that for me and I enjoyed every page. I went thru her early days on the ranch, getting started, a plane crash, and the birth and her son Shelby and her raising her Reba: My Story. I figure there are many very good singers but she delivered on which songs to sing and the musicians that surrounded her. It makes a lot of difference to have a good management Reba: My Story. I Reba: My Story she did a follow-up book because this was written in Jul 02, Bradley rated it really liked it. It took me two long weeks to get through this book. A biography is meant to be savored and not blown through. I am amazed at her frankness and details of her life story in these pages. Very good positive reading. She seems like a really nice person to know. I truly enjoyed this book. Now I have to turn it over to my wife. She is the one who loves musicians' stories. I actually became familiar with Reba not through her music, but from her sit-com when my kids and I would watch it in reruns. However, she is a very talented singer, and I was slowed down in reading this because every now and then I would unlock my computer screen and listen to a song on Youtube not all of them, of courseand of course stumbled across her latest Reba: My Story. Her biography starts when she is small--her dad was a rodeo star, so she grew up around horses and cattle. Who knew? Not me, a I actually became familiar with Reba not through her music, but from her sit-com when my kids and Reba: My Story would watch it in reruns. Not me, although no doubt her long time fans Reba: My Story all of this sort of thing. It has a good balance. It is overall positive, but obviously not everything is great her career had a fairly slow start, she wrote this while married to her second husband, etc but she doesn't resort to scathing gossip or nastiness. There was also tragedy, but I Reba: My Story want to give any spoilers, other than the one that was all over the news when 8 members of her band died in a plane crash. What Reba: My Story would like is if she'd write a sequel and bring us up to date from then until now, but of course that wouldn't be the same kind of tale. I'm a huge Reba fan but this book was just not the best read in town and for the Reba: My Story half of the book I found myself bored. It picked up some in the middle but then again fell flat at the end. I think this book could have been better but there was just something off about the writing of it that made it hard to connect too. In Reba: My Story end I'd probably give it 2. So I am rounding up. May 04, Kristin rated it it was amazing. Reba's autobiography spans the period of her career prior to when I became a fan of her music, so for me, this book was an enjoyable learning experience. In fact, Reba tends to focus on her life outside of music, during her time working on the family farm and competing in roedos, for much of the book. However, if you think about where her music career was at the time of writing, those early experiences are what comprised the majority of her life. That is not to say that she does not provide insig Reba's autobiography spans the period of her career prior to when I became a fan of her music, so for me, this book was an enjoyable learning experience. That is not to say that she does not provide insight into her triumphs and tragedies during her early years as a country music performer. Both her failed first marriage and the plane crash that took the lives of many of her band members Reba: My Story covered in depth, as they were milestones. Likewise, Reba expresses gratitude for the accolades she has earned for her music, as well as the greatest event in her life, the birth of her Reba: My Story. All in all a great read, and some day, I suspect Reba will have enough material to include in a second volume. It should be a happier one, as her marriage to Narvel has held strong and her career has reached above Reba: My Story beyond music and the few movies she'd done to that point. I will be sure to read it if such a book is ever written. Jun 17, Krissys rated it it was amazing Shelves: starfeatured-books. This is a woman who has lived her life over and over again but Reba: My Story with that I was not ready for what this story would bring me, especially as right now I am in a tough spot in life. Although the book is seriously outdated since it was published in it is a mesmerizing story of what it was like to grow up on a poor Oklahoma ranch, to have a loving life full of support and to see what it to Reba has been one of my top favorite country singers and I find her not only beautiful but inspiring.
