8th Annual Scholarship Brunch

On June 6, 2018 over $575,000 was awarded to almost 300 area students at the CBCF 8th annual scholarship brunch held at the Corpus Christi Country Club. Scholarship recipients and their families were able to meet donors and personally thank them for helping make attending college financially possible. 11 Fundamentals of Fundraising V

Over 100 representatives from local nonprofits attended the Fundamentals of Fundraising – Part V, “Your Relationship Building Checklist” workshop hosted by CBCF. The event was held at the Corpus Christi Country Club on September 20, 2018 and was sponsored by Blanche Davis Moore Foundation, Oxbow Advisors and Earl C. Sams Foundation, in addition to CBCF. Returning for the third time, guest speaker Karen E. Osborne addressed the audience with helpful strategies on how to gain productive and meaningful relationships with donors. Her fast-paced and content-rich program identified opportunities for growth and taking relationships to the next level.

What the Charities Said –

“Amazing! Every moment of this seminar was exactly what “I had a board meeting immediately following the seminar and brought what I needed/wanted to hear at this point in time because of the I learned from Karen O. to the meeting. Attending was an incredibly valuable expansion of our organization!” board member who I think was burned out. I was certain she was going to resign this year. I received a text from her after the meeting saying it was the “I am taking new ideas and knowledge for the betterment of our best meeting in a while. I asked her what she thought made the difference. organization in praising our donors.” She said it felt like a team, group discussion instead of just reporting. There was a sense of community that was brought back and that is what “Karen is a great presenter and more so has great knowledge on makes our organization so special to her. Everyone seemed recommitted building relationships. The wow of today was telling the ‘why’ to the purpose. Wow! YOU GAVE US MAGIC!” instead of the ‘what’!”

12 10th Annual Coastal Bend Day of Giving

November 13, 2018 marked the 10th anniversary of the Coastal Bend Day of Giving. In 2009, our area charities were among the first in Texas to benefit from such an event. Matching gift days were being discussed at community foundation conferences as a way to help charities during the economic crisis. The 1st North Texas Giving Day was hosted by the Communities Foundation of Texas also in the fall of 2009. Kent Williams, then President/CEO of Coastal Bend Community Foundation, deserves credit for initiating in 2009 this significant effort for the Coastal Bend.

The 10th Annual Coastal Bend Day of Giving set a fundraising record. The 24 hour online campaign raised $2,566,685 for 50 area charities exceeding 2017’s total by over $200,000. Coupled with the previous nine Giving Days’ total of almost $12 million, over $14,500,000 has been raised and put directly into the communities served by the participating charities. Marked as the largest matching grant to date, $900,000 was contributed by the generous funders listed below, giving each charity the opportunity to be matched up to $18,000. The CBDG event could not be successful without their generous support!

Once again Coastal Bend Day of Giving media sponsor, KIII-TV, made it possible for viewers to learn more about each participating charity. The excitement increased throughout the day as viewers were able to watch the giving total in real-time thru live-cut-ins on television and on the online donation site. Stories profiling each charity and the many services they provide were aired leading up to the event. Many Coastal Bend businesses and organizations helped by marketing on electronic billboards, creating the event’s visuals, and sharing on their social media channels and calendars.

THANK YOU to everyone for helping make this event successful - a testimony of the love and support for the Coastal Bend community!
