I 2016 blev hun nomineret til BBC Sound Of 2017 og til april 2017 gæster hun Lille VEGA. Bag navnet, The Japanese House, gemmer sig den 21-årige brite, Amber Bain, der på smukkeste vis leverer musik til alle dine regnvejrsdage. Samt den playliste du sætter på morgen, middag og ikke mindst de sene aftener. Hun er nomineret til BBC Sound Of 2017, og høster store roser fra både anmeldere og kollegaer i hjem- og udland. Efter et bomstærkt fundament bygget op af to fantastiske ep-udgivelser, Pools To Bathe In og Clean, udkom tredje ep, Swim Against The Tide, i november 2016. På trods af at Amber sagtens kan læne sig tilbage og nyde succesen i sit blide, drømmende univers med synthesizere og behagelig electronica-pop, afholder det hende ikke fra konstant at udvikle sig som kunstner. Med en klar kærlighed til musik frembringer hun på ep’en, Swim Against The Tide, endnu flere sider af sin musikalske kunnen, som f.eks. på sangen "Face Like Thunder". Her viser hun, at hun passer perfekt på verdens hitlister, såvel som på indiescenen. Lader musikken tale for sig Amber Bain ønsker ikke at lade sit køn eller navn definere folks opfattelse af musikken, og optræder derfor under aliaset ”The Japanese House”. Navnet stammer fra en barndomsferie, hvor Amber boede i et hus af samme navn, ejet af selveste Kate Winslet. -

Es zeigt in ikonischen Bildern die letzten Tage einer Beziehung: Bain und ihre Freundin putzen sich gegenseitig die Zähne, küssen sich fast, durchstreifen eine romantische Landschaft und treiben auf einer Matratze durch eine Seenlandschaft, bevor es vor einem brennenden Auto endet. Interessant wird es, wenn man erfährt, dass Bains Widerpart in dem Film tatsächlich Marika Hackman, ihre vormalige Partnerin im wahren Leben, ist. Sie sei sehr froh, dass sie so ein gutes und freundschaftliches Verhältnis zu ihrer Ex habe, dass dieses Video entstehen konnte, sagt sie, so sei der Dreh schmerzhaft und leicht, ganz echt und sehr surreal gewesen. Aber diese Gegensätze haben die Musik von The Japanese House immer schon ausgezeichnet: dieser tiefe, gelassene und friedliche Dream Pop, der so eine eigenartige und schöne Stimmung erzeugt und gleichzeitig so tieftraurig ist. Auf bislang vier EPs, „Pools To Bathe In“, „Clean“, „Swim Against The Tide“ und „Saw You In A Dream“, hat sie ihren beeindruckenden DIY-Sound entwickelt und ist jetzt bereit, mit „Lilo“ und allem, was auf dem im kommenden Jahr erscheinenden Debütalbum noch kommt, einen Schritt weiter zu gehen.
