As the G3 continues to limp along, we expect Asia to hold up better on the back of China’s cyclical recovery and a pick-up in domestic demand. Economic headwinds will start from the middle of 2013 as China’s policy tightening kicks in and a slew of European problems resurface. While we expect less excitement on the policy front, there should also be less scope for GDP growth disappointment than in 2012. 4 December 2012 / January 2013 Small & Medium Caps | Asia-Pacific ex-Japan Mark CHANG, CFA Key stock coverage Ginko (8406 TT) Regional Head of Small and Medium Caps Also covers Strategy (Taiwan) China Outfitters (1146 HK) Xingda (1899 HK) Mark has 12 years’ experience covering Asian small caps, and has been consistently ranked in the small-cap category of II polls. • Obama Seeks End to US 'War on Terror'

In a major policy speech on Thursday, Obama nar- rowed the scope of the targeted-killing drone campaign against Al- Qaeda and its allies and took steps toward closing the Guantanamo Bay military prison in Cuba. He acknowledged the past use of “torture” in US interrogations; expressed remorse over civilian casualties from drone strikes; and said that the Guantanamo detention facility “has become a symbol around the world for an America that flouts the rule of law.” Though aimed first at a domestic audience, Obama’s speech at Washington’s National Defense University was also the latest mile- stone in his campaign to reshape the global image of the United States - particularly in the Islamic world. But he faces obstacles from opponents in Congress who will try to block the closure of Guantanamo prison and reject his call to repeal the Authorization for Use of Military Force passed right after the Sept 11, 2001, attacks. The law is the legal basis for much of the “war on terror.” President Obama’s speech on the use of drones and the fate of Guantanamo prisoners was largely welcomed yesterday in two key countries affected by the policies- Pakistan and Yemen.

The Gobi Desert, winter 2011 adventurer | author | speaker Rob Lilwall Self-Leadership in a Changing Worldwith Nat Geo Adventurer “The only constant in life is change”, so said the philosopher Heraclitus. Today, issues of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity resound across the headlines and through our lives on a daily basis. In every industry, in every role, pressures are mounting, challenges are multiplying, and the stakes are rising. At such times, the default is to focus on surviving till the latest crisis passes. But can we rise above the situation, and even thrive amid the di!culties? It is no longer enough to simply have the right knowledge, competencies and technology; the key is found in cultivating self-leadership with the right perspectives and habits of mind about change. Rob Lilwall is an ordinary person who, through taking an adventurous attitude to life, has achieved the extraordinary. In the last two decades, he has embarked on expeditions by bicycle and on foot, covering over 80,000 km of the world’s land surface.
