ISL ANNOUNCES THE LA CURRENT TEAM ROSTER FOR THE 2019 SEASON LOS ANGELES-- LA Current announces our initial team roster for the 2019 season and Lenny Krayzelburg, General Manager of LA Current, four-time Olympic gold medalist, and founder of the SwimRight Academy, says, “I can't wait to show the world what my team, the LA Current, has to offer.” LA Current originated in 2018 and is comprised of competitive, world class, medal-adorned athletes from across the globe. Our goal is to be one of the leading clubs in ISL by building a strong brand and helping to bring the sport of swimming into mainstream daily conversation. LA Current will look to create multi-faceted layers of opportunities by leveraging our athletes and bringing them up close and personal with sponsors, brands and fans, as well as building community relationships in Los Angeles and beyond. 2019 Jim Sharp – Boys Indiana High School Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame Historian Compiled by: Linda (Ludlow) Horn Indiana High School Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame Historian (317) 839-5461 / (317) 753-1391 Cell [email protected] History of IHSAA Boys Swimming Championships From 1928 thru 1930 the boys’ state finals were not sponsored by the IHSAA and were by invitation only. Columbus High School hosted these three meets won by Indianapolis Shortridge, Whiting, East Chicago Washington respectively. The Decade is: In 1931 the first annual IHSAA sponsored Boys Swimming and Diving State Championship was held at Columbus High School (60 ft. pool) with 10 teams participating and South Bend Central claiming the team title. The events contested in the first championship included the 160 yard relay, 40 yard freestyle, 100 yard backstroke, 220 yard freestyle, 100 yard breaststroke, and the 120 yard medley relay (40 yd. each of backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle). Fancy diving was also an event, consisting of a running front, standing back, running front jack knife and a standing back jack knife. The 1932 meet was held at Butler University (75 ft. pool) with 11 teams competing. The 1933 meet was held at the Whiting Community Center (60 ft. pool). In 1934 and 1935 Butler was once again the site. The 1936 and 1937 state meets weren’t even held in Indiana. The IHSAA allowed Hammond High School to host the meet which was then moved to Thornton Fractional High School in Calumet City, Illinois due to a “better pool facility.” (60 ft. pool) In 1938, the state meet, again was hosted by Hammond High School at the brand new Hammond Civic Center (75 ft.

Krayzelburg will tell his inspiring personal story of being a Ukrainian Jewish immigrant to the US who rose to fame as a swimmer. He is a member of the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, and has held five world swimming records. After his retirement from competitive athletics, he has been involved with teaching swimming and water safety across the country. His story includes his difficulties as a new immigrant, and how he overcame adversity to fulfill his own American Dream. He will be telling his story at the American Hebrew Academy, the only international Jewish college prep boarding school in the world. At the Academy, Jewish students from all over the United States and the world study together. Over the past five years, the American Hebrew Academy has enjoyed a 25% increase in international enrollment, which has included numerous students from Russia and many other Russian speaking countries. Krayzelburg was born in Odessa in the former Soviet Union. After spending his boyhood years in what is now the Ukraine, his family immigrated to the United States to escape Soviet Jewish anti- Semitism and the call of the Soviet army, settling in Los Angeles. He is a four-time Olympic gold medalist in swimming from the 2000, and 2004 Olympic Games, the 1998 World Champion in 100m and 200m backstroke, 11-time United States National Champion, and has owned 5 world records in backstroke.
