COMMUNITY PLANNING INTERNSHIPS AVAILBLE (SUMMER AND/OR FALL 2015)

The Land Use Division in the Office of Gale Brewer is seeking a Graduate Intern interested in being part of a collaborative and energetic team. The division is seeking graduate students who have a strong interest in studying the built environment and strengthening neighborhoods through all-inclusive community development and would like to gain practical experience and deeper knowledge in the City of ’s land use process. The Graduate Intern would be under the direct supervision of the Community Development Officer and will work with the Deputy Director and Urban Planners in the office.

Under supervision, general tasks will include:

 Assisting staff with collecting and preparing data  Joining planners to conduct field work and site surveys throughout the borough  Assisting the Community Development Officer with intergovernmental tasks as they relate to Community Board staff, leaders and representatives from elected official offices.  Assisting with upcoming policy reports and community engagement activities that the division collaborates on with the Policy division.  Assisting with basic office functions as needed, such as data entry and file management

Preferred Skills

 Strong written and oral communication skills  Strong research and analytical skills  Ability to work effectively in a team environment  Basic understanding of planning principles  Competency with various computer software programs, such as Sketch-up, Google Fusion and GIS

Applicants should have an interest in the planning profession and relevant planning specializations. Students in graduate urban studies/planning programs are strongly encouraged to apply.

All internships are unpaid, although we do encourage interns to seek academic credit for their internships. The hourly commitment is flexible based on availability, but 15-20 hours per week is recommended.
