RESULTADOS PRELIMINARES A. C. Cicchino RESUMEN Este talar está ubicado en el margen oriental de la laguna homónima (37º35’ LS, 57º84’ LW). Presenta gran interés faunístico debido a su asociación con la citada laguna, la cual posee antecedentes geomorfológicos propios. Por ello se efectuó un estudio entomológico iniciado en el año 2000 y que continua hoy.. Una parte se centró en la carabidocenosis edáfica, estudiada mediante trampas pitfall. Esta carabidocenosis está integrada por 78 especies distribuidas en 36 géneros y 16 tribus (el primer guarismo indica el nº de géneros, y el segundo el nº de especies): Carabini 1, 1; Scaritini 1, 2; Clivinini 2 ,4; Brachinini 1,7; Bembidiini 3, 5; Pterostichini 8, 21; Platynini 1 ,5; Panagaeini 1, 1; Oodini 1, 2; Callistini 1, 3; Harpalini 9, 19; Lebiini 3, 3: Migadopini 1, 1; Lachnophorini 1, 1; Galeritini 1, 2.; Megacephalini 1, 1. Se análiza la riqueza específica de este talar, agrupando las especies por afinidad de hábitats, y se dan algunos comentarios faunísticos relevantes Por último, se destaca este sitio como refugio local de especies deCarabidae, ya que alberga el 53,4% de riqueza carabidológica conocidas el sudeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires (146 sp.), y el 22,5% del total conocido al presente para dicha provincia (346 sp.). -

Rivista piemontese di Storia naturale, 31, 2010: 187-212 ISSN 1121-1423 GIANNI ALLEGRO *- RAMONA VITERBI ** Contributo alla conoscenza faunistica ed ecologica dei Carabidi del Parco Naturale Orsiera Rocciavré e della Riserva di Foresto (Coleoptera, Carabidae)1 ABSTRACT - Contribution to the faunistic and ecological knowledge of the ground beetles of the Orsiera Rocciavré Natural Park and of the Foresto Reserve (Coleoptera, Carabidae). In the Orsiera Rocciavré Natural Park and in the Foresto Reserve 54 carabid species have been recorded by pitfall trap sampling carried out during 2007-2008 in 4 altitudinal transects, three located in the Chisone, Susa and Sangone valleys and the last one in Foresto. The Sangone Valley was the richest in species (33), whilst the Foresto Reserve showed the poorest assemblage (13 species overall). The differences are probably related to variability of climatic features, width of the transects as well as environmental diversity. The overall structure of the tran- sect assemblages are shown and some ecological indexes (Shannon Wiener, Even- ness, Margalef’s, Simpson Dominance, IndVal) are calculated in order to better charcterize the transects and the plots. Finally, some observations are reported on the most interesting recorded species and, moreover, on the most important fau- nistic element in this area, the steno-endemic species Carabus cychroides. Biological invasions are usually thought to have a negative impact on native communities. However, data supporting this idea are often based on comparative studies between invaded and non-invaded areas, and are spatially and temporally limited. 2. The present study experimentally assessed the impact of an exotic wasp, Vespula germanica , on the native arthropod community of north-west Patagonia during 3 years in an area of 80 ha. Vespula germanica is an exotic social vespid that invaded north-west Patagonia 20 years ago. It has been suggested that its populations affect native arthropods because of its broad diet and also because Patagonia lacks natural enemies and potential competitors for these wasps. 3. Using wasp-specific toxic baits, V. germanica abundance was reduced in five sites of native woodlands during 3 consecutive years. The abundance, species richness, and composition of arthropods between non-poisoned (control) and poisoned sites was then compared, both before and after the wasps were poisoned. 4. Wasp abundance represented 6% of the total arthropod catches in non-poisoned sites and was reduced, on average, by 50% in the treated areas. -

The present study aims at complementing the data about the distribution of the carabids from the tribes Pterostichini, Spho- drini, and Platynini, containing many diverse, interesting, and endemic species. It gives new records for 67 species and 23 zoogeographical regions in Bulgaria. The material was collected in the period from 1926 to 2021 through different sampling methods. Twenty-three species are recorded for the first time in different regions. Six species are reported for the second time in the regions where they were currently collected. Thirty-one species have not been reported for more than 20 years in Eastern and Middle Stara Planina Mts., Kraishte region, Boboshevo-Simitli valley, Sandanski-Petrich valley, Lyulin Mts., Vitosha Mts., Rila Mts., Pirin Mts., Slavyanka Mts., Thracian Lowland, and Sakar-Tundzha re- gion. -

Female genitalia,Zabrus, Carabidae, Coleóptera Abstract.The systematics of the genusZabrus Clairville, 1806 is currently based on morphological characters that show a high degree of parallelism. The aim of this study is to find new characters in the female genitalia, which give a better understanding of the phylogeny of the genus and result in a new classification based on monophyletic taxa (subgenera and species groups). For this pur pose slides of the whole female reproductive tract were studied under light microscopy and the gonocoxa IX under scanning micro scopy. The study of species belonging to eight subgeneraZabrus, of and of twelve subgenera of its sister taxonAmara, shows that Zabrus is characterised by the lack of a spermatheca. This apomorphy is reported for the first time in carabids, and corroborates the monophyly of the genus in comparison Amara.to A villous canal that is intimatelyjoined to the distal bursa copulatrix was found in both genera and in species of related tribes. This feature could be an apomorphy of the Harpalidae sensu Deuve (1988). However, only inZabrus does the villous canal end in a long falciform head, which is probably another autapomorphy of the genus. -

WILL Essig Museum of Entomolgy, ESPM - Insect Biology, University of California, Berkeley, CA 94720 [email protected] ABSTRACT A new species, Trirammatus torqueotrochantus is described from Caramávida, Chile. Males of this species are distinguished by unique femur-length, twisted and falcate trochanters, which are a form unlike that of any described pterostichine. Both sexes are recognizable from other species of Trirammatus by the combination of short metepisternum and bicolored legs. The species is included in Trirammatus based on the shared condition of having paired sub-tarsal claw setae. The status and characters of genera thought to be near relatives of Trirammatus, the evolution of elon- gate metatrochanters and their relationship to wedge-pushing are briefly discussed. The hind legs of T. torqueotrochantus, Pterostichus (Cylindrocharis) acutipes acutipes, P. (Steropus) moestus and Acanthoferonia ferox are illustrated to show relative trochanter lengths. Key words: Coleoptera, Carabidae, Trirammatus torqueotrochantus, new species, Chile INTRODUCTION Currently the genus Trirammatus Chaudoir includes 22 species arrayed in four subgenera: Trirammatus s. str.; Meraulax Tschitschérine, Plagioplatys Tschitschérine and Pachymor- phus Chaudoir. This assemblage of species and their division into these groups is entirely a historical vestige and inspection of type specimens and additional material has begun to reveal some clues as to a preferable and character-based system. As in many insect groups, this study of museum specimens suggests a significant undescribed diversity. -

Abstract: The role of carabid beetles in reducing populations of phytophagous insects has been an elusive subject. A field experiment was established on a commercial wheat crop (cv. Otto) with an area of 4.5 ha in Valdivia, Chile, during the spring and summer of 1996-1997. The field had been under a prairie system for two years, before wheat sowing (fertilization and a pesticide had been applied during crop development). Samples were taken at approxi- mately monthly intervals. Carabid beetles were sampled with a grid of pitfall traps and other insects were sampled with a vacuum insect net and soil cores. The genera of the carabids found are of neotropical origin. Exclusion by polythene barriers, together with removal of carabid beetles using traps, was an effective technique for controlling carabid populations in a commercial wheat crop. A reduction in the number of carabid beetles was associated with an increase in the number of springtails and arachnids, and a decrease of agromyzid adults. Phytophagous insects, such as homopterans and lepidopterous larvae, were not affected by carabid exclusion and removal. The action of carabid beetles on the arthropod fauna can be extremely complex, due to its predatory activity at multitrophic levels. -

A lectotype for Cratocerus sulcatus Chaudoir is designated.
